I certainly don't want to see another soap canceled especially not GH. The ratings for the show, however, are terrible. I am so happy for B&B and DAYS and hope they can maintain these types of numbers. And its just all kinds of wrong that AMC & OLTL are canceled and will no longer be on television.

AS bad as GH is its demos are stll the same or not much lower than the others which is where they always used to still be acceptable. Not that there is much difference between the bottom 4 shows but its sad. I still don't believe anyone at ABC intentionally killed anything but what the heck has JFP been producing the last 7 months without Guza. Her instincts are crap and no one cares who she saved or brough back for short stints they were meaningless.I dont care how good a technical producer she is her vision along with Guza's suck.

These upswings in the ratings during a Holiday week prove that these soaps are clearly in the wrong timeslots. It's really time for soaps to move to evening hours where they can get a much larger audience. Daytime has become to small of a platform for these soaps as these extra viewers prove that these soaps still have sustainable audiences if they were in better timeslots.

Sadly, what I can extract from these ratings is there are still some ex-viewers who will check the show out when they are home and the show is on but they have very little interest to became a regular viewers again. And worse, nobody from the desired demos cares about the soaps and would rather watch anything else. They just don´t consider soaps as one of the viewing choices and I doubt a different timeslot could change it. The only chance for soaps is to start agan and go through a complet overhaul, both production and promotion wise, so it´s no longer tainted. I think it will eventually happen, but not before all the current soaps die first.

They do air during primetime on soapnet now. I think the issue is still an aging audience. Remember CBS has cancelled shows that still draw 10 million viewers because the demos were low(Cold Case comes mind). ANd there are already soaps in primetime I am not sure why people forget that. Revenge, Desperate Housewives are exactly that. ParentHood is another. I think a better comparison are Novellas that air during the dinner hour that seem to do well with their limited audience but the they are mainly made in Mexico so their costs are fairly low. NBC put Leno in 5 days a week at the 10:00PM timeslot and even his demos were better than daytime soaps and that was deemed a disaster. I think the issue with putting the current shows on network primetime is that the production values would look amatuerish compared to PT shows and the stories, writing and pace are just not a fit as they are now. ANd even with the gains look at the 18-49 demos for every show compared to 1 year ago.

If ABC has decided to cancel GH, then that decision has already been made - privately. If the truth is known, the decision was probably made before Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati were given charge of GH. Their (private) mandate is probably to wrap up the current stories and provide closure for the fans as opposed to being some sort of hail mary brought in to save GH.

I would expect a public decision no later than April 2012 as to whether GH will live past September or not. "Guiding Light", AMC, and OLTL were all canceled in April (while "As the World Turns" was given a bit longer to say goodbye, being canceled in December 2009 and last airing in September 2010).

Glad to see OLTL up, even with the Rex/Gigi stuff (which honestly wasn't THAT bad, it was good soap even if annoying at times)... I think the following week will have good ratings with the prison breakout leading the final week. I think it has been getting some extra media attention like AMC so here's hoping...

And BWHAHA at GH which has just always been horrible, IMO.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
