DAYS: December Discussion Thread

Yes the problem of the shows is all due to the writers and Ken Corday. You have a bunch of hacks that have no clue what they ate doing. This show is doomed and I be VERY suprised if NBC keeps it after 2013 or even doesn't cancel before that. The ratings are WAY down and the fanbase is mad! If these new writers only have a year contract, DUMP THEM!

I think most of DAYS writers had almost some success. JER´s second run started big. Sheffer had great numbers up until the moment Corday forced him to write half of the cast out and scrap everything. Even Higley had the plane crash and later the babyswitch. But MarDar are a failure from the first episode. Corday had no trouble to fire writers after few weeks or months before so is hard to quess what he is waiting for now, especially when the next year is so crucial and they will soon have half of 2012 in the can.

Here is one

Wrapping up old storylines air 8/19. So exciting. But the best is yet to come - our new stories! 9/26 -with a special episode on 9/23

Another

That was my first thought. Seems a bit dodgy, really.

First time in MONTHS, I am fast-forwarding. Awful. DO NOT CARE.

I like the John and Marlena stuff. I am hoping we somehow get John vs Stefano, but I just assume this will be EJ's story somehow. EJ has destroyed Stefano as a villain, turning him into the cuddly old grandfather villain and roots for the badguys from the sidelines but never gets involved himself. Daniel's sickness I assume will be just some mechanism to reveal who his father is. That doesn't bother me much either.

Where the show loses me is Sami, Madison, Kate and EJ. This could have been a good story perhaps, but lately it is dull beyond words. I don't know how they had the nerve to write a scene where Kate is begging Sami to come work for her as an executive. If Sami goes over to work for Kate, Madison will lose almost her entire reason for existing. With no regular characters having a stake in Madison's company, who really cares whether she succeeds or not? And that brings us to Brady. I guess Madison could exist solely as Brady's girlfriend and if the show wanted to it could embark on a Brady vs Sami angle to cause agita for John and Marlena, but other than that I can't see what a Sami and Kate vs newbie Madison and Brady can possibly contribute to the show. At this point Madison is not really a real character, she is just Brady's girlfriend and Sami's boss. She could be recast 300 times and it wouldn't matter because she doesn't matter.

Noel deserves all the praise for stepping up the production values and I think that's where most of Noel's praise went.

It's been proven in the past that when people aren't on the same page, it's disastrous. Wyman/Reilly and Scott/Higley weren't on the same page, and now Maxam/M&D weren't. And in those cases, Corday had a decision to make and choose one or the other: he choose Wyman over Reilly, he chose Higley over Scott, and now he chose M&D over Maxam. At least now with Lisa, the EP and HWs can co-exist to work together - of course that doesn't automatically mean the show will improve storyline wise.

I guess where the problem is why Maxam? Maybe Lisa will make a huge diff but Meng was the one storyboarding with MarDar not Maxam at least that what was said early on. And like all of Cordays choices, Higley over Scott, Higley over whitesell and indirectly Tomlin, Maxam is the one with the more pedigree background having worked for ed Scott at Y&R not Meng.Meng is the one on the floor with the actors and scripts not Maxam at least as I understood it. Hopefully this tweak will improve things but Corday's history and choices over the past so many years does not leave room for a lot of confidence, Anyone taking Higley's side over Scott's should have their head examined.

Yeah it was Meng's idea to bring back Marlena and Co not Maxam.

Toups, I agree the team needs to be in sync, but you also need to know WHY they're butting heads. Considering the quality of MarDar's writing and all the experience Maxam has, I'd listen to what he has to say. It was probably notes based on the pacing and whatnot, which they didn't want to hear. Lisa Hesser isn't known for producing well written shows. That's a problem IMO. Same with Ed Scott and Higley. She didn't want to hear what he had to say, but she needed to listen.

All the experience? He was never an EP before and he's only been a producer since August 2007.

What I dont understand, Scott and Maxam were products of Bill Bell and YR. Theirs a reason why that show was and is still number one. I am not a YR fan but I love their sets and stuff.

The fact that Corday chose Higley over Scott with his background and experience is mind boggling. I also recall Days getting some of its first emmy nominations in years with Scott in charge. If Corday didnt have such a crappy record in making the right decision some of us might actually have confidence.

Ed Scott has done wonders at B&B, just like when he was at DAYS and Y&R. His work speaks for itself. And Noel Maxam is one of the people he trained. I understand he's only been a producer since 2007, but add on his years working at Y&R and you have a guy who has a fresh mind, yet is well trained. That's what we should be looking for. Seasoned new blood, similar to what they're trying for with MarDar.

I'm sure production values have improved, but B&B is still a creative black hole, as DAYS seemed to be when Scott/Sheffer were there (I think the only story they did which got any praise was yet another rape saga). I guess he didn't have enough of a chance on his own, but since ratings did go up after he left, I wonder if he made a big impact.
