CBS ruled the roost.It must have been unsettling for them just a few years later to see that dominance threatened.

In June 67,AW knocked To Tell The Truth from its longtime position as #1 in the 3pm timeslot.By 68 it had been cancelled and replaced by Secret Storm.

At first I thought that was the Regis Millionaire.

BTW I wanted to say sorry about the ratings I posted not having the game shows. It wasn't an oversight - it's just that the Daytime TV issues don't feature them.

Our Private World,the ATWT prime time spin off debuted in May 65 with a rating of 11.9/25,compared to 11.1 for ATWT in the daytime.

Was the show not actually called The Andy Griffith Show?

For reruns and syndication,it was Andy of Mayberry. A lot of other shows had title changes.I'm not sure why.

I wonder what numbers were like in primetime, and how Our Private World fared against them. Not very well, I'm guessing.

Back when I was in college in the 80s and studying this sort of thing, a 30 share was considered the "magic" number if you will to be considered successful in prime time. If the audience were younger and/or more affluent, a show in the 27 or 28 range (ala Hill Street Blues or St. Elsewhere) would stick around. So a 25 share in 1965 when Our Private World aired would have been pretty unsuccessful. There were even fewer TV options in '65 so my hunch is that its competition was probably pulling in the 35-40 share range.

ABC turned the trick with its "General Hospital" serial, which has been making a steady climb on the charts, moving sharewise from 18 to 35. The last Nielsen gave it the 12th daytime position with a 7.0 rating.
