Days: Character exit spoiler from TV Guide

I think Louise would prefer being killed off, vanishing or slinking out of town with everyone jeering at her because at least it would fit Vivian's narrative. Face down in a lake? Sounds about right.

The Bollywood thing is just over the top lunacy that's reduced Vivian to a complete joke.

The thing is, we will know Vivi is off somewhere doing something and hopefully having the time of her life. Soaps are not High Art, and while cheesy it's at least something we can imagine in a positive light (Bollywood isn't a joke, it's a real industry with international respect). Other have not fared that well. Carly might have the drama that CC loves, but the character herself is headed for hell after her addiction. Chloe…. well, that's just sadness all over the place. And that's just recent Days characters. GH has had some horrible send-offs, as have the others.

No, as much as I really respect LS's blog entry about the way actors are currently treated, I think she did one too many "woe is me" articles with this one.

I see what you are saying, but I guess some of the horrifying exits of soap characters like Diane, or B&B's Beth Logan, or Colleen, make me glad when a soap doesn't go down that road.

They literally "live to see another day". The door is open to Vivian, not slammed shut. That's really not a bad thing. Sucks when you're the actor, but for a character/show that's quite positive.

I actually was hoping Sorel would at least get ONE scene in with Hogestyn before she left.

I agree with Sorel what a ridiculous send-off but true it could be much worse. Even though Higley and Co. blew it over the last two years I was still entertained by Sorel and the character Vivian. I'll still don't fully understand the criticism of Sorel and Vivian(must be newer fans?) myself.

This seems on par for the Vivian and Ivan that I watched in the 90s.

I'm definitely not a "newer" fan. I think it's different strokes. Vivian has always been a cartoon to me, and I watched the burial of Carly as it was happening.

For me personally it's a matter of propriety. Yeah, it hurts to be summarily discharged. And yeah, TPTB could have handled it with some class rather than the way she's reported it. My issue is not any of that, mine is enough is enough. Sure, you're now "unemployed" but while you had a job you were making scad-loads more than most will ever see, you are in an industry that hasn't had job security since the breakups of the old Studio System, and you have no one dependent on your for their own survival. Say your piece (which she did beautifully in that blog entry - I even passed it on to some Union activists I know and they linked it for their own purposes), and then go out with your own type of class. This latest bit is just sounding bitter and bordering on unprofessional IMO.

Oh my bad I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone with that now I realize catty harsh remark about newer fans.ph34r.png

But different strokes I can agree on. I too watched the original buried alive story as that's what got me hooked on the show as a kid along. With that story and with Vivian's "Grand Theft Embryo" storyline I myself didn't think of Vivian as a cartoon but as a formidable villainess with a psychotic edge. I'd add she was larger than life but not entirely preposterous. It wasn't until Vivian and Ivan started carrying out their schemes in drag that it became over the top campy, but never once a dull moment though. Aside from some of the silliness involving Buried Alive 2.0, a story which I liked I thought the camp was certainly way toned way down for her '09 return.

I wasn't offended - but it's good to remember that some "newer" fans might merely be "returning" fans. It's all good. smile.png

Days has always been campy, though. Just look what Marlena has gone through. Jack? Sami? (Okay, the Stan being Sami during AS pregnancy was a fun and unique idea, but still campy). VIvian just never had evil staying power like Helena Cassidine on GH.

Vivan has always been seen as the crazy lady in town who holds grudges, not a formidable foe. It's too bad because from what I understand of her early days on DAYS, she was someone to reckon with. A little zany, yes, but still dangerous. Once she started climbing the Eiffel Tower ('96) and dressing up as a box of french fries ('97), it was total slapstick.

I feel sad for her. I like Vivian.

Yeah, her character was more interesting when she first came town though. But now the writing for her has just gotten old.

im completely devistated...i hope the new writers find they need her in the future and can actually write her being evil..ill never get over the loss of her she was my favourite character and the reason i started watching Days back in the 90s...

What bothers me is that regardless of how Vivian was trashed and written like a camp cartoon, some of which was great fun mind you, Louise Sorel always committed 100%. She cannot be accused of walking through her scenes. She put in her all. She is a very serious actress and a serious person as well.

I feel for her, all her years of fighting for her character, the writing, her performance, has been flushed down the DAYS toilet.

Fare thee well Louise, set up a Twitter and a Blog, I love her writing!

She's not wrong; her exit is a joke. However, given the state of DAYS when she agreed to return, I don't see how she expected anything more. Coming into it this time around, she should have known better than to think the writing/story/dialogue for her charachter would be anything but cartoonish.

Its too bad they didnt have she and Chloe team up to get revenge on Kate a few months ago
