I have a friend who was waiting for a gay storyline on Days cause that is his soap. I am sure he is very happy about it. I agree...Sonny is very charming. It's helps that the actor can actually act....lol.

I'm glad Days showed a little life in the ratings this week. I'm interested in seeing the gay storyline play out, but nothing is really happening with it right now. EJ's fall out is just recycled drama. I don't find it interesting at all. I think Days is sorta at a Standstill until September. It's obvious that some stories are being tweaked to showcase Marlene & Darrell's vision for the show.

I keep reading posts and on podcasts about how OLTL viewership skyrocketed since cancellation news broke. It's true OLTL has been ABC's #1 soap since week of 4/18 but May, June AND thus far July are averaging LESS viewers than April and OLTL has been bleeding 18-49 viewers:

Month Viewers 18-49 Demo

Apr 2011 2,598,048 670,000

May 2011 2,561,667 647,000

Jun 2011 2,552,636 644,400

Jul 2011 2,562,900 613,500

It's a very good question if Prospect will care about demos if they go to some subscription format??

Also, it's the 12-34 year olds who are the majority watching online. That demo just helped Trueblood break HBO's previous online viewing record. The question for Prospect is will OLTL's aging viewership make the medium change?

I admire your persistence in pointing out the ridiculousness of trying to put a positive spin on OLTL's ratings. These shows were cancelled because their 18 to 49 women demos are horrendous given their production costs. What is interesting that GH's 18 to 49 women demo has also collapsed recently. In most of the country, GH is aired before Oprah which makes me think that GH's 18 to 49 women demo is linked to Oprah's cancellation. It will be interesting to see what happens to GH's demos when it is last soap standing.

I think that fact that a subscription service was mentioned means that Prospect cares about the demos, after all it will be collecting demo info when people subscribe and no doubt they will hire Nielsen to track online viewership. I think that OLTL and AMC online might be completely different shows so as to attract a new younger audience.

Know it all Ann_SS actually posted this: GH is aired before Oprah which makes me think that GH's 18 to 49 women demo is linked to Oprah's cancellation.

HUH????? Oprah was cancelled?? WHEN did that happen?

Oprah CHOSE to end her show.

And just for the record, in my market, Oprah and GH are on different stations. So wrong on so many levels.

The soaps had a pretty good week in particularly on Monday and Tuesday.

B&B

Monday: 2.3/3,185,000

Tuesday: 2.2/3,153,000

Y&R

Monday: 3.4/4,662,000

Tuesday: 3.3/4,703,000

I want to start out with B&B b/c it gets overshadowed the most despite its ratings uptick over the last month and this is out of the struggling Y&R.

DAYS

Monday: 1.9/2,761,000

Tuesday: 1.8/2,474,000

Wednesday: 1.8/2,630,000

DAYS has been the best soap in my opinion over the past couple of months and last week was EJ in hell week. That Monday viewership is the highest I’ve seen DAYS in a while. This is good news for DAYS as their not taking a break like they usually do during the summer and they’ve got to build for the September 26th reboot.

GH

Monday: 1.9/2,572,000

Tuesday: 1.9/2,484,000

Little bit surprised that GH rose like it did, some people seem to be happy about it lately so that’s a good sign for them.

OLTL

Monday: 2.0/2,858,000

Tuesday: 2.0/2,733,000

As usual the power in the ratings as OLTL has become its own machine this season. OLTL is fast approaching getting over 3 million viewers

AMC

Monday: 1.8/2,446,000

Tuesday: 1.8/2,446,000

AMC has actually gotten better lately which is good as their about to move online on September 26th which is right around the corner. Unfortunately its too late for AMC to get any ratings like OLTL is getting as quality doesn’t equal ratings in the short-term but the long-term.

Jnewt I love you. A really bright spot round here. THough I would question those OLTL statements after viewing another ratings chart from above. I think team Eric put it together. I do hope OLTL hits over 3 million viewers but if Todd doesn't do it for them then I don't think it will. I do think OLTL numbers will peak once this TODD thing is over if it hasn't happend already. just a few years ago. Y&R was able to pull in over 5 million viewers it hasn't done that in months maybe even a year. Correct me if I am wrong some one.

I bet GH will have decent ratings for the next few weeks. Fans are going to watch for GW's new material and promised changes. Time will tell if they stick around.

My personal opinion is slightly better writing for the same few characters and same couples will not make a significant, lasting ratings change. Bringing on more new faces won't bring in the viewers either. Actually, I'm not positive there is a way to bring back the lost fans. Guza's destruction of especially the past few years has driven away all but the hardcore loyal fans.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
