I don't know if AMC or Gh are currently telling any sexual stories. If so please share as I don't watch those shows.

My question is, what the heck is going on with these kinds of storylines?

Is this the new wave for daytime? Sex storylines?

New wave? Daytime has been telling sex filled stories for decades

As far as GH goes, Lulu has been spending the last few weeks undercover at a brothel bc Luke's been hanging around prostitutes

How is this any worse than stuff in the past? AMC had Billy Clyde Tuggle blackmailing Donna into remaining a prostitute back in the 70s. There was OLTL's Karen who was a housewife by day and a hooker by night. Around that time too, Marco Dane was taking pictures of Tina and altering it omake it look like she was a teenage porn star. B&B has been doing sex scandals for years and this berry plot is kinda tame compared to Brooke having a full blown affair with her daughter's husband. ATWT and Y&R did a crossover plot in which Amber and Alison got involved in porn together a few years ago. These are just some examples. There are plenty more.

I'm happy to say AMC isn't telling that kind of story. However it's definitely cost them ratings.

As for the rest, soaps are competing with judge shows and reruns of Cheaters and Jerry Springer. It makes sense that some of these "writers" have decided to try and out-perv the perverts.

I think they cycle with the sex stories. Sometimes things are more chaste than others. There was a time in the 90s when there were a lot of bondage references for example.

But to this extreme nature?

I wouldn't call what we see on soaps extreme. They are the most chaste TV shows ever, where no one says they want sex, they say they want "to make love" and so on and so forth. If anything, they should be a little more mature in the content I think. You see these couples in bed, alone with no one around, and yet the woman still clings to a sheet covering her bosom like her life depended on it. Didn't the guy just see her breasts and a whole lot more?

Honestly I think soaps are WAY more prudish now than they used to be-- some of the sex scenes then are practically softcore porn and would NEVER be shown today. I remember a Holden/Emily shower scene that was HOT.

I remember in the early 90s a Donahue episode about soaps--some were complaining that kids were home watching them and they were basically soft core porn. But it is true--late 80s through to, well Nipplegate really (we got those bare butt shots shortly before) it was more of a feature. I find the OLTL porn story distateful and worse, just STUPID on so many levels, but aside from lame innuendo, we've actually seen a lot less than I think we might have in the 90s.

I think years ago a lot of the scenes were more intense, but there was less sleaze for the most part. You'd get scenes with passion and lust between adults who wanted to be with one another. There would be S&M between characters in a committed relationship, different positions and the like. Usually it wasn't teens barely out of high school being forced to do porn.

There is nothing extreme. Soaps have never done anything extreme when it comes to "Pimpin’, Porn and Prostituting". The censorship on american network TV is stupid.
