Soap mentions on other shows

On former Swedish soap opera Nya Tider, a character was watching B&B, a scene with Stephanie & Eric. And she commented on the scene, but the comments did not match what was happening in the scene, as I had recently seen the episode... It was when Stephanie was in a wheelchair after her stroke.

I remember The Sopranos borrowed 2 scenes from B&B so that the viewers could see that Uncle Junior was watching it, on 2 different occasions.

Not on a series, but in a news report from a senior citizen home, B&B was on in the background as they interviewed someone.

How I met your mother: Episode 22, Season 5. Lily mentions The Young and the Restless.

The woman who lived in Ted's apartment before him still got some mail there, and then they met her and thought they knew a lot about her. Among other things, she got a soap opera magazine. So Lily asked her if anyone recently has watched a Y&R episode. No reaction. She was bummed no one else seemed to be a soap fan.

In the 90s, there was this show called I'll Fly Away, it was short lived, but the critics loved it. It was a period piece set in the south prior to desegregation and in the background of one of the scenes a television was playing an episode of The Guiding Light.

That was actually a two-fer. Morgan and Rossi are watching Y&R in the hotel room when Reid comes back and asks if they are watching DAYS.

On That 70's Show, Kitty freaks out when she cannot locate the "clicker" because she just wants to watch Guiding Light.

Of course, there are the hidden mentions on other shows. GH has done a few recently regarding DAYS. Not long after Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn were released, Sam was hired for a PI job to see if a client's wife was cheating and the names were Deidre Evans and Drake Black. Deidre was played by Valerie Wildman and Edward was using the name Drake. No one knows for sure but no one remembers Tracy's middle name being mentioned and they have said on a few occasions recently that it is Anjelica and Jane Elliot played Anjelica on DAYS.

On Gilmore Girls, Lorelai goes on a whole rant about Jacob Young's Lucky.

    • I saw a conversation yesterday with Liam with the 7 dwarves hat and Steffy -  I know she did not say re: Hope and Liam said - well look at Finn and you forgave him right?      I know I did not hear Steffy say “well but you can’t compare that to…”  For *uck sake someone call the bitch out!?     You’re right, we shouldn’t compare your forgiveness for the dude with devil spawn seed whose daughter locked you in a cage along with crazy stepmom/mom/Grandmother who has also SHOT YOU BOTH - and multiple murder attempts but you have to exist with them / Hope’s part in a takeover which you know was FAR LESS THAN CARTER BECAUSE HOPE IS NOT AN ATTORNEY…. Goodness no, no the same thing at alllllllll.   When they do Steffy’s absence at least let it be because they all find out what a manipulative ho she is in her own right.
    • I think a lot of us still agree with that. I do hope that the resurgence in the soap world with Beyond the Gates will push ABC to either bring back these shows or produce a newer one.
    • So, this was fun. Elsewhere, friendly to polls, a poll on what do you want to see at the Nurses Ball. The Gio reveal got 18%, for Blaze to return & sing also got 18%, for Jennifer Hudson to do a cameo & sing got 10% and for Lucy to lose various parts of clothing got 9% but the huge one was the reveal of Drew/Nina sex which got a whopping 45%!
    •   I liked the effect of the curtains closing. Yeah it was like the end of Act I.   Or maybe they are simply trying to emphasize the drama of the end of an episode -- instead of a random abrupt end that has happened in some prior episodes.
    • I posted this in the behind the scenes thread but I know this thread is busier so wanted to mention it here as well. During their instagram live yesterday, Daphnee Duplaix and Trisha Mann-Grant mentioned that they will find out this month if the show is renewed for another season. Just a heads up so we can keep an eye out for an announcement and keep our fingers crossed for a multi-year renewal!
    • They haven't explained the ownership of the Bistro, but Doug told Holly the other day he didn't get the job there. Basically Roman just hired Doug on the spot and gave him a room.  It was really nice of Roman.  I don't know if he knows who Doug is or that he stole Julie's necklace.  That was unclear-at least to me.
    • I'm not sure how I felt about it, but I do kind of like that it felt like the show telling us this concludes the first chapter of the series. Could be interesting if they only do it for big aftermath episodes. The biggest mistake with Martin is that it's almost hard to buy his anger because we've gotten no strong scenes with him and his parents. They've all been with Anita/Vernon. I can't even remember him ever even saying one word to Nicole, even in passing.
    •   Thank you! Agreed on both posts. And the comments about Mike Manning are nonsense.
    • I haven't watched yet, but did they explain the current ownership of The Bistro?  Because when RonC was writing, wasn't he applying for work with Sophia?
    • I think Brandon has gotten better in normal day to day scenes, but he’s very over the top when the character is meant to be angry or agitated. I did laugh when she started yelling at Leslie and then when he started to throw all those damn books, lol. He needs an acting coach to work out some of these kinks.
