Thanks, it is not quite as titillating as I had built it up in my memory.  Ridge has such an oddly timed come-and-hither purr that it sounds like he is trying to seduce Storm and Stephanie.

Did all of the guests come in speedos under their tuxedos? Because that is going to be uncomfortable in the drive home.  Kristen's dayglo swimsuit with high pony was iconically 80s.   I'm also amused at the detail that Stephanie wears a pantsuit to her own pool.

RIdge's line that he couldn't help himself but have nonconsensual sex with his brother's girlfriend reminded me that most of these quasi-consent stories are derived from the fact that they took it from behind so they couldn't recognize their partner (see Y&Y Grace, Y&R Drucilla, and B&B Thomas).

Most remarkable they used camera trickery to make that yard seem huge.

When watching the earliewt episodes..i always forget brooke/ridge didnt officially meet till 50+ episodes into the show.

When watching these early episodes, do you think there are any clues to indicate brooke/ridge were gonna be major?  I recall as a small child, my mom watching the 1st episode when it debuted..and when she laid eyes on Brooke in those first few seconds she said 'I don't trust her...she looks like trouble'.

i was sure they will be major becouse Brooke was so anxious to meet him. She read about him in the newspaper, had a major crash on him. She wanted to get closer to the rich Forrester family. BTW Bell always gave hints/indicators to major story line. Just watch the episodes from 1988 to see how Spectra comes in and the Angela's story. Bell father was great. The show then was golden!

Considering how trashy the show became, it's funny how chaste it is in the beginning. Caroline is explicitly a virgin, and Brooke, Donna, Katie, and Kristen aren't really getting it on either. Brooke even tells Donna to wait to have sex. Is this supposed to be before or after Donna had Marcus?

I thought the pool portion was pretty hot. No so much the group dancing.

Oddly enough, the speedos were presented to the men by Ridge. It really adds to the missed potential of having him be a guy who'd [!@#$%^&*] anything that moves.

My mum and I watched the first episodes yesterday. I would say that if today the show is 2/10, back then it was 8/10. I really love how they write suspence and every scene has some kind of conflict, but it's not cheap. I love it.

I think there is. Brooke is always reading on the newspaper about Ridge and Caroline. And I think Brooke is Ridge's karma for doing horrible things to Caroline. He met his match.

@BoldRestless

i wonder too when is supposed Donna have been pregnant with Marcus? this is another example of how nowerdays writter have no idea of the storyline in the 1980''s. Donna is even presented like some kind of virgine before Donna moved in with her boyfriend. Then in the 1988 story she is supposed to have graduated and about to go to college i think. When does Marcus fit in?

BTW Broke even left her boyfriend Dave becouse she wanted a better future for herself. A policeman was not enough for her.

Time-line wise, Donna had Marcus BEFORE we met her in 1987...

As for BIll, this was a major retcon. But not the first one with SPencer children. Both Karen and Bill Jr. were NEVER intended during these 1987/1988 episodes...

EDIT: Brooke's "romance" with Dave was one of the key reasons why I always stood with Stephanie and Taylor that Brooke cannot be trusted and is nothing but a calculating gold digger. Contrary to you guys I also felt very uneasy by Brooke and Donna folowing the papers and then showing up at the hospital to socialise with Caroline. Talk about creepy!

And while Bill Bell's talent is not to be disputed, it is clear that his wiring for most of the Logans except Brooke and Donnaleft a lot to be desired for. And we had those tideous episodes with a recap scene and the main scene (usually Ridge with Caroline and Stephanie or Thorne yapping abut it to another poor character) even in those days from time to time.

I remember Donna even saying to Brooke this was crazy..and asked why Brooke couldn't be happy with her life.

Episode 309 posted on the channel..where Donna told Brooke about the nude photos...and Brooke acting outraged..with Donna parading he4 body and going against the morals they were raised with lol. What happenes to this Brooke?

Donna in 87/88 was in college for journalism....so when i look at a lot of the stories that Brooke and Katie had...they should have been given to Donna such as the Brooke's bedroom story..working at Spencer Publications..etc.

I also think if they couldn't get the original actress back, they should of had Heather Tom play Donna instead of Katie.... and just had Katie be recurring.  You can tell by episode 309 that Bell didnt have interest in writing Katie.

Ah, puts it in better perspective ... Bill never knew what to do with her either. I think he finds the idea of a character more interesting than the actual execution and he swiftly loses interest. He lost interest in Kristen fairly quick too, didn't he? You can see a lot of comparisons in casting on B&B to that of Y&R and how maybe he wanted to emulate some of them (Ashley/Kristen spring to mind, but I don't think Kristen was ever on par with Ashley but I haven't seen enough of OG Kristen yet to form an opinion)

    • And of course Mama Ru herself appeared on All My Children.
    • The Saturday 8pm slot usually had the lowest rating of the NBC 4 sitcom lineup for some reason. NBC let Saturday night fizzle, They used 9.30 pm to launch 227 and Amen, both of which moved to earlier in the evening but they  kept Empty Nest following GG for several seasons.  Empty Nest should have moved to 8pm with their strongest new sitcom at 9.30, anticipating that GG would eventually falter. Instead they left them there and stretching the sitcom pool too thinly on other nights. When Grand talk over at 9.30 Thurs maybe Night Court and Wings could have been used on Saturday.
    • @Maxim Great to see your mini-reviews again. There are a number of clips on Youtube of Janice's slow mental breakdown, especially as we go into January 1980. Christine Jones is just superb. She played the hell out of that role. Something which isn't referenced as much later on is how Mitch pushed Janice's doubts and mental instability for his own ends...until suddenly he didn't want to anymore (I guess he caught on with the audience and the show became wary). I don't want to post a bunch of clips, but this one has a very good confrontation between Rachel and Janice.

This has a good scene around 7 minutes in where you can see Janice struggling internally with her need to identify herself so much by the men around her, all of which helps lead to her crackup.
    • It really made Oscar the Doorman seem like an imbecile.   I think the show's unusual format & subject manner is what makes EON often seem less "dated" and "old-fashioned" than other shows from that time period.  It never attempted to be especially "trendy" or "modern" -- and its film noir style is pretty timeless.
    • Dallas, Dynasty, Knots and Falcon Crest all had good runs but by 85 they had seen better days. I think they were a victim of the format. After several seasons seeing the same characters front and center viewers were bored. What was once fascinating grew predictable. JR, Alexis etc had to be front and center and after a while their schemes and shtick grew repetitive. JR remarrying Sue Ellen, Alexis constantly trying to get he better of Blake etc Unlike daytime, there wasn't the flexibility to bring in other stories and characters and maybe let the likes JR go backburner. That same mentality also invaded daytime with characters like  Sonny and Victor still peddling the same stuff after decades. I guess the same could be said for MSW eg every week Jessica encounters a crime and solves it,but I think viewers come to that format with a different mindset.
    • Daphnee and Trisha did a live stream on Instagram and confirmed they find out if the show gets picked up in May. This pretty much confirms they're on the primetime schedule like the Bell soaps. Fingers crossed we get a multi-year renewal announcement soon!  https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJSsYb7PDv8/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
    • I don't think Lois the character was there.  The Lois we knew from the 90s has pretty much died with this  Gio story crap.
    • Have to agree re MM. The goody two shoes character and writing doesn't help but maybe a more dynamic actor would help Brandon lift his game also. I found the song sequence a little OTT. First of all it should have been shorter and maybe the song fades out and just some music to accompany the montage. I think it would have worked better if Anita had have been alone after everyone left and started tinkling leading into the song, with Vernon coming in observing and then joining her for  a close moment. Everyone standing around felt a little too much. And that closing effect with the two blackscreens meeting was unnecessary. Just a fade out would have been enough.
