Great to see the full bee scenes with Lance and without the subtitles......I still have a hard time watching the scene, just because I'm afraid of bees myself, and the thought of dying from an allergic reaction and not being able to breathe is terrifying!!!

That Brooke and Caroline scene in the 1988 promo looked pretty intense....I've never seen it before.

I don't know why I'm not as invested with the first 2 years of B&B like I am starting with like 1989ish, but I wish I had gotten to see some of the earlier 87-88 stuff (besides the first full week) ....I think some full episodes use to be around of 1988.

Well 1989 is when the Spectra gang arrived, maybe that's what drew you to B&B LOL

The early years do resemble 1970s Y&R a lot. I used to equate pre-Sheila B&B as being practically identical to pre-Victor Y&R; the character and storyline similarities are numerous. But B&B does come into it's own around 1990, as by then Bill Bell figured out which characters were working and which weren't.

That exchange between kristen/s tephanie highlights how insecure stephanie was.  She was even jealous of her own daughter getting any attention from Eric.  I don't recall...was that also the reason why she and Felicia didn't get along?

This is a gem that some kind YouTuber reposted...it had been taken down long ago and I so enjoy rewatching it. Sally vs. Sheila in 1996: Sally swaggering in on Sheila's abuse of Stephanie, becoming her surprise protector, the very beginning of the Sally/Stephanie friendship. I'm only sorry they never had Sally get into a catfight with Sheila - my money would have been on Mustang Sally.

Darlene is so menacing at the end - absolutely fabulous.

That Sheila/Sally scene is absolutely magic. A testament to Darlene Conley, Kimberlin Brown and the juicy soapy goodness that B&B used to be.

I was only around 13 when that aired and I still distinctly remember the thrill of those two characters interacting because I hadn't seen it before (and don't recall it happening again).

Yet more reminders of the squandered potential the show has.

Edited - I've just watched the clip of Sheila/Stephanie where Sheila asks if she never wanted to lose control when Brooke went after Eric. "I never wanted to attack her physically!"

At the time I just loathed Stephanie has a hypocrite but now I suspect it was just the start of the writing rot setting in.

I remember the Stephanie mercury poisoning storyline. I was not expecting Sally to become Stephanie's defender.

Bill Bell casting Darlene Conley as Sally and building a family/business around her breathed new life into the early years of B&B.

    • Thanks for posting this, fascinating read. It's clear how ambivalent Wyndham is about Justine. IMO, it reads like she agrees that the end of the storyline was bad, but reading between the lines I think she thought she was doing good work for the meat of it....which was not the case. As bad as the writing for most of that story was, it was truly made worse by her embarrassing performance. After the story concluded she kept falling back into Justine ticks, when she wasn't phoning he scenes in. Not to play Freud, but was it to tr*ll her critics?
    • I better hear "The Emmy goes to Ambyr Michelle" come Emmy time lol

    • I love this more than any theory I've seen yet
    • I wonder what Dana and Hayley's first scene will be like. Dana has fear/contempt for Bill, but I can imagine Hayley being curious to meet her.
    • Daphne was just FANTASTIC today. I know people wanted histronics and it may still come but she was pitch perfect today. As much as I like Maurice she's gonna need someone just as strong now and it's just not him
    • Today's episode was one of my favorites so far! TT's Anita standing up to Dana was perfect. I was surprised with how restrained Dani was, in some scenes, I forgot she was there. The ending "Amazing Grace" montage was brilliant. I like how Vernon's reason complements Anita's emotion. DD was terrific portraying her mixed sense of betrayal and humiliation. I liked her comment about how she condescended to Dani after her breakup with Bill, unaware that she was also married to a cheater. I am going to miss MJ as Ted and I don't agree with the criticisms of his acting. His conduct on social media is a different story. I agree that BC's Martin has come into his own. He and MM have also discovered some chemistry which allows them portray a believable couple. Eva is the most empathetic character for me. Seeing get locked out of the apartment was heartbreaking. I also liked that the writing for Kat has been much more nuanced than one might have expected just weeks ago. I liked the expression on Kat's face at the end when she was embracing Nicole. Kat has probably never seen her calm, poised mother so upset. CM's face portrayed a sense of discomfort now that the carer/child roles have been somewhat reversed. I believe now more than ever that Kat is Ted and Dana's child. Eva is Ted and Nicole's child. Dana switched them as insurance - if Bill came after her to take or harm Eva, Dana would reveal that Eva was actually a Dupree, giving her some protection. She would also be secure in the fact that her birth daughter Kat was ensconced in the privilege and security of the Dupree family. The way Dana raised Eva - "weaponizing" her instead of nurturing her as a loving mother - also aligns with this theory.
    • @Paul Raven - thanks for reviewing the content for accuracy.  You know, the nice thing about AI is that you can teach it things, so I am having it review the classic AMC Tumblr to increase its accuracy.
