My opinion on that Bianca consists primarily of "gee I'm so going to hell for thinking this" thoughts that 1) the poor child's nose was enormous and 2) it can't have been good for either Gina or Nathalie Paulding's self esteem to know that the role was re-cast primarily because Nathalie was very, very skinny.

I think Susan is particularly beautiful here, look at some of the closeups:

Nathalie Paulding was a very interesting actress. She wasn't great, but she did play up a lot of the insecurity, bitterness, and self-loathing that Bianca would feel at that time, all under a "sweet" and "nice" demeanor.

I also think that Gina wasn't much of an actress. I can't see her playing heavy material.

NP had an almost Lemay-like quality about her, her work reminded me of a small bird or moth. She certainly felt like a young actress who'd have a career in the New York theatre, which she did in fact.

She had a very whiny voice, but generally most of the Biancas did, at least until Lind.

I was just watching the clip of where Bianca learned of Travis' death and circumstances be damned it was like the screechiest whiniest acting I've ever heard.

All Biancas were horrible until Riegel. Wilde, Chabert, Gallagher, Paulding. I said that long ago, and I stand by my word. Lind was OK, and I began to accept her at the end. When Riegel came on, I thought, "Oh Lord, here we go." But then I thought, "Well, hell, they finally found a Bianca that could act."

The Bianca who came back to Pine Valley in 2000 played by Eden Riegel was the anti-Erica - unglamorous, laid back, sweet, quiet, and pretty much unlike the Bianca we'd seen before.

Good point, ellabelle. OTOH, I've always assumed Bianca changed because her ordeal with anorexia had humbled her.

Concur. Flawless. But all the women look great in this scene including Jill Larson and Marj Dusay. The makeup looked particularly crisp.

Susan is just plain gorgeous period. She always has been. The woman looks better in her 60s than I do in my early 30s.

Adam was no prize as a parent, but I never understood why Tad was viewed as oh so fabulous.

I've really grown to dislike Tad a LOT over the last few years. I never realized that his smugness was there from the very beginning (with MEK). I still don't get how people disregard the fact that he caused his wife to have a miscarriage and didn't give a damn.

That storyline - Jake/Joe/Tad hounding Dixie into a miscarriage and not caring - is one of the main reasons I quit watching for a while in 99-00. It's also one of the reasons why I was probably one of the very few AMC viewers who didn't think the show improved all that much after McTavish left.

The story with Tad constantly going on about Ray Gardner and Adam = Ray was nasty stuff. I always felt like that time period was what destroyed Tad as a character. The show as a whole was just a mess - I think the only story which got a positive response at the time was David/Erica.

This was also at the time of WTF stuff like Mateo pouring Hayley a drink, and the candy cane, and Greenlee/Becca/Scott.

~swoons~ David/Erica. All these years later, I'm still pissed that TPTB broke them up only because they wanted Erica to be single while she dealt with Bianca coming out. Then they never went back and brought David/Erica back together as a couple. That was such a waste of such a great couple.
