I was SOL as I could not abide either one of them.  I just checked her out in the Locher Room. She looks awful & she seems even more out of it than she used to. Puffy eyes, puffy cheeks, seeing through slits. Week before last when I watched Michael Fairman do Zoom interviews the day the Emmy nods came out, Cynthia Watros had puffy eyes & puffy cheeks. I lost the audio in the Locher Room so I split.

😂😂😂

Ha!

You could see how uncomfortable he was from the beginning.

What's his rep? I just wish he wouldn't shy away from so many questions. Take a chance! They just might answer.

That is a thought provoking question.

On the one hand, in the age of pre-internet/mass culture media, a model like Erica might not have had fame across ages and gender.  Much like Christy Turlington, she had a recognizable face, but men who didn't follow fashion might not have known her name.  Later in life, she would have also been well known in Pine Valley for her talk show, but even a local morning show host like Lee Phillip Bell wasn't considered a legend outside of their city.

On the other hand, the ex-lover of titans of industry like Adam Chandler and Brandon Kingsley, as well as ex-football star Tom Cudahy, would have had some fame, like Ivana Trump.  Also her well publicized murder trials might have made her a subject of interest like Jodi Arias, and her autobiography came on the heels of the Kent Bogart trial.

Finally, consider the source, Mike Roy was hardly tuned into to pop culture, just look at his wardrobe.

The first 20 seconds of this video illustrates exactly why Erica Kane (and Susan Lucci) became the legend she is today.

Mike's question does make me wonder: how famous was Erica meant to be? Like a household name? What celebrity would you compare her to?

Erica's fame is a funny thing to measure. She spent years ascending in the modeling world, but didn't succeed at establishing herself in show business. For a few years, she succeeded as a magazine publisher, then definitely succeeded as an entreprenur. Along the way, her husbands increased in prominence. Also, of course, she's got her fame as a talk show hostess (Was The Cutting Edge strictly local? Could it be seen nationally, or at least in NYC?) and retroactive icon of her heyday. Did I miss anything?

I can't quite compare Erica to one person, although I suppose Janice Dickinson would be the closest analogue in terms of modeling (I'm open to better suggestions). And Tina Brown for the Tempo years. Enchantment was likely following the lead of Elizabeth Taylor, Cher and Joan Collins' perfumes, but I personally think of it more along the lines of Jessica Alba and the Honest Company (a surprise and highly lucrative second act). The retroactive icon of her heyday ... I guess Erica's like every woman who's survived to give commentary for a pop culture documentary.

Also, now that I'm writing this, I think there was a big missed opportunity not having Erica hook up with a rock star (he doesn't have to be British, but it wouldn't have hurt) during her modeling years.

Actually Erica is kind of like Estee Lauder.  She, like Erica, grew up in working class while dreaming of being an actress, famous and being around wealthy men.

She ended up co founding her own cosmetics company with the help of a wealthy husband.

Thank you! I knew there was probably a more prestigious/singular person I could have hit upon.

Well, she never would have been a model so you have to start at an opening point where she is disappointed to begin. Then, where do you go? Because she's simply too short. She'd never have any modeling jobs. wouldn't even have anyone to rep her; the only way she's a model is Fantasy Island! So, AMC. She could have been a famous winning jockey! Maybe if she loved horses? I couldn't believe Esta said she had 8 horses.

Erica as a jockey would have been hilarious. I can just see Susan rocking those silks.

Never thought of it before but suddenly I find it appealing!

Erica could’ve easily been a catalog model or a commercial model. I mean, look at that face. Unfortunately they presented her as a supermodel.

Thank you @j swift and @Franko for your insightful answers!

You're welcome, Darn! If I remember correctly, Erica's early modeling career included things like appearing in ads for local department stores and catalog work. For better or worse, the show took her to unexpected heights.
