AMC and OLTL Canceled!

I agree. And I've never found Carol Banks Weber to be reliable at all on anything other than the stuff she copied right out of the magazines.

Regardless of whether she is right or not, it's not a matter of if GH will be cancelled, but when.

With GL, ATWT, AMC, and OLTL all canceled in the span of a couple of years, the remaining four will likely go sooner rather than later.

I don't think GH is here beyond Sept. 2012.... whether Frons is willing to admit it or not... I think this clearly goes well above him. SOAPNet will be gone, AMC and OLTL will be gone with these two cheap reality shows.... GH doesn't really fit into the future vision. Unless The Chew or The Revolution totally fail (which will be pretty hard to do considering how cheap they probably will be to produce).... I think GH is gone too. They'd be silly to announce that this far out though, I suspect a year from this time this place will be exploding over the news of GH's cancellation.

Hopefully Errol will come in here soon. I am wondering how much he knew...or did he even think it was possible that ABC would cancel two soaps at once.

And with all the unexpected fallout from the AMC & OLTL cancellations, would they really cancel their last remaining soap right on the heels of those cancellations. Like I said, that would be a PR nightmare. Frons would really need to join a witness protection program, like he joked about in one of his interviews. It would be a stunning turn of events if it were true.

Frons will off himself when GH is canceled.

Yes, the GH fans will really go for it. How I feel is TPTB will get theirs too...just a matter of time. That isn't a sense of being mean, but if television has been replaced with some other new technology, like if the Netflix experiment works, the networks as we knew them will be dead.

The caps being put on broadband by various ISPs will probably kill Netflix.

I agree GH will be gone by Sept 2012. The news will come out on Apirl of 2012.

But it's true...by the end of this decade (likely sooner), soaps will be a thing of the past.

I agree. The reports are that one of the soaps canceled has been in the planning stages for a year. I think the same is happening with GH right now. It may not be announced until April of 2012 but I think there's a very good chance GH ends in September of 2012.

I think by 2015 they'll be gone. GH will go in 2012, DAYS will not last beyond the fall of 2013 when its current deal ends.... and Y&R and B&B may get a year or two beyond their current production contracts, but no more. ABC has set precedent here. Up until a year ago, I don't think many really felt ABC was going to be so quick to get out of this business. They owned their shows, they were still making a relatively sound buck, and with SoapNet, the cross promotions, etc... they clearly were still invested. Something changed, and I think it goes well beyond Brian Frons. ABC Corporate wanted out.

So then everyone will have to go back to buying blu-rays to see their movies, as things like Redbox are totally angering the movie companies?

It would be really sad if GH did not make it to its 50th anniversary. I say it all depends on how these new shows do.

I was in Washington, D.C. this weekend for a previously scheduled trip and only returned last night. Otherwise, I've been spending the day on story angles re: the cancellations of both the shows and digging into the real reasons behind the why's (and not the shit Frons is spewing) and I've come across some really interesting information. Should be able to shed a little light or not later this week. Depends on how far I get.

I think probably a talk show would replace GH.... how is The View doing ratings wise? Could they be in trouble of not surviving this shift in priorities?
