Very valid points. Ten years ago, these shows had healthy enough ratings, instead of rerunning on SoapNet, they probably could have survived a move to cable & make some major changes to the format. Now, they've bleed so much audience, they won't. Your right, the current soaps are going to have to die, & new ones in some form or another will eventually spawn.

It was fun with Strasser in the beginning, but someone needs to send this woman to a mental institution for the elderly now.

I wouldn't give two sh!ts if she never got another role at this point. Oprah doesn't owe her or any soap fan anything. She simply stated the truth or what any head of any network would tell you about producing a daily soap.

I don't. I care about the fact that she's attacking a woman who ain't did sh!t to her. That's not productive by any stretch of the imagination. If gunning for Oprah had even the most remote chance of saving these shows, improving them both by LEAPS AND BOUNDS in a wide variety of areas (those very same areas that we've been complaining about for years -- the areas of immense problem that seem to have been ignored or swept under the rug in the last week by people desperate to keep these shows around, even in the sh!tty condition that we've ALL generally agreed that they're in), then fine, Robin, take her out back and beat her ass. But that's not gonna solve a ding dang thing, it makes Robin look messy, and it makes the entire soap fanbase look horrible. Her attacking Oprah accomplishes those things. It does not accomplish anything actually related to the soaps.

Because Strasser totally defeats her cause by defaming another woman in the process.

It was hard to take her seriously before, and going after Oprah does her no favours at all.

She's making Oprah look sympathetic right now, and making her OWN self look like a bitter old loon.

Yeah and I just wonder if everyone understands that the shows wouldn't merely move sideways to cable but major changes would be made (good thing bad thing). If I'm going to invest my time and money in programs that are not working in their current form I must invest additional time and money into figuring out why they are not working and trying to remedy that. Now look what I have on my hands. Not just a business venture but a labor of love. God help me if I'm not head over heels in love with soaps already. So I can see how it would be a "Why bother?" for many. It's like buying a fixer-upper.

Lawd it took me a week exactly to get to the "Acceptance" stage.

The bottom line is that a lot of time, money and energy has to go into repackaging the formula to make soaps profitable, and if it is, it will take time - time Oprah doesn't have. She has already stated a few times the reason OWN isn't doing well is because she doesn't have the time to personally oversee programming. Trying to save a dying genre is a huge responsibility and she shouldn't have to be bullied into accepting that responsibility. She may have genuine affection for AMC but the buck stops there. Above all else, she's a shrewd business woman and since these fans have already proven how rabid they are, they'll praise her for "saving" their soaps and the minute she makes an executive decision that affects their couple they'll be ready to picket in Chicago. The woman ain't no fool.
