AMC and OLTL Canceled!

Burton had a msg the other day that was basically a long sales pitch for some sort of soap star cookbook, that he said he was sure would now be a "collector's item" as we said goodbye to AMC and GH, so get it while it's hot soap fans! I believe he was parroted in this by one of his many GH lackeys - one of those idiots who plays one of the "funny" bodyguards on the show - and then they both apologized, then pulled the tweets and blamed a hacker or something. Like Brandon Buddy.

Pig Pen had a neck.

I will credit Burton for having the smarts to spend years whoring out ABC and various co-stars to help him make a quick buck, but this was horrible timing. It's odd, as he usually has better PR skills these days (not so much in some of his past interviews where his issues with Sarah Brown weren't kept out of print).

what date does Soapnet end? I would guess that will be OLTL's last date as well

the only thing that is good is Frons doesn't give a crap and will leave OLTL and AMC alone to do what they want and I am happy the people don't have to work for Frons anymore, they will come out the winners and Frons will lose everything, can't wait

Real World turned into an STD factory long ago and any issues it covers are done for shock value and exploitation, and are full of vile stereotypes about minorities. It's descendants amount to shows that get attention mainly because of people behaving like morons or beating the crap out of each other and getting arrested.

Reality shows of today care about conflict and reinforcing stereotypes, not much else.

BTW, this is how I know soaps will survive:

It wasn't even that great a film, despite stunning visuals, music and a great performance by Tilda Swinton. But I Am Love was all the rage last year, drawing on Luchino Visconti and lots of other classic films. And it was very clearly a film that was soap - like Game Of Thrones is deep down, like so many big cable shows, like the latest remakes of Jane Eyre. It's all soap.

    • I see people saying this a lot but I always thought both things were plot points with a specific purpose. Martin running for president (something that would've been years down the line) was just to give us an opportunity to learn about his secret and that it involves Anita and Vernon. Naomi's lawsuit was used to develop her relationship with Bill and highlight his health issue. Those cases are almost always settled out of court so I didn't find anything odd about that, it was all about Naomi and Bill. I do wonder if Mike might've had better chemistry with Jen Jacob. At this point I feel he's right there with Derek in terms of being a weak link. He's a better actor but he doesn't have chemistry with anyone. These are the two characters I really hope they get a handle on in coming months.
    • From the original report, via Variety (December 2020): ❝ The project is currently titled Pine Valley, named after the fictional Philadelphia suburb that served as the setting for All My Children. In the new series, a young journalist with a secret agenda comes to expose the dark and murderous history of a town named Pine Valley only to become entangled in a feud between the Kane and Santos families. ❞
    • Yes; plus, it's supposedly the home of the trauma Alexis experienced when they were in that storyline, etc., a.k.a., another recycled and redressed set. Wouldn't surprise me, especially since Melgar did the "GH Live!" episodes and those weird-ahh outros we got. Although, given that Melgar has been more aligned with the views of ex-Jax, part of me feels like she wouldn't be asked back.  Probably because of Luke, and if Laura accepts Sonny, then the audience automatically will, too. I mean, because she does means you do, right?! Right?!
    • Yes, Portugal qualifying was definitely a shock. I'm not crazy about the Ukrainian entry either, but that was always going to qualify for obvious reasons.  I was a bit surprised that they had the video message from Cèline Dion already in the semifinal. I would have thought they would save that for the final on Saturday.
    • Of course. With my luck Frank would probably bring Lily back from the dead and pay Lilly Melgar to do a cameo with Sonny instead though.

Seriously, I know I am late to the party, but why are Sonny and Laura bff?  They've always been friends or friendly although I never considered them to be super-duper close.  I always thought Laura mostly tolerated him for Luke's sake.  The way the show is pretending they've had this decades long tight knit friendship is just weird and OTT.
    •   It's just so much fun!   She really was what made the show come together. I remember thinking what a mistake it was to write her out temporarily. I wonder how I'll feel during this rewatch, but I'm fairly certain her absence contributed to the show ending after season 5.
    • Thank you @Paul Raven The Kay/Kill stuff sounds like fire.   @soapfan770 I saw someone asking about old episodes you had... in case anyone has old tapes but not a VCR, DM me, I am willing to convert them for free.
    • I think Krista is too hot or her. I think the current actress works bc she comes across so basic. Thats not a dig but she feels very normal and relatable as an average suburban woman. I think if Krista was in the role, Id want more out of her but I dont think Jan is meant for bigger things
