Thanks @BoldRestlessย that was a lot of fun, and very important to have as a tribute to their contributions to Y&R (the closest we'll get, anyway). Wish we could have had some of this in the episodes.ย

I'm glad they did mention Victoria Mallory.

Given that they mention Brad I wonder if there was any attempt at interviewing Janice or JLB with Tom Hallick, unless there's some bad blood there.

@vetsoapfanย you may enjoy this interview if you haven't already seen it.

Good point! Hopefully Fairman or somebody did an interview with Hallick and maybe Janice.ย

I had not caught this interview until you pointed it out to me. Thank you so much @DRW50! It was a treat!

I also wish we could have had some interactions like this with their characters on the show.

Acknowledging Victoria Mallory with such respect was sweet.

I found it amusing that Jaime Lyn Bauer mixed up Lorie's book titles Naked at Dawn and In My Sister's Shadow. I instantly caught her error. Die-hard fans can remember even the most obscure details.

I don't believe there's bad blood with JL and Tom Hallick. She's in the classic Y&R Facebook group, and she has often posted very glowing comments about Hallick, their characters' storyline, and working with him.

Naked at Dawn was her first book from 1974 right? Impressive that JLB remembered that one at all.ย

I'm betting the party was hectic and Michael just managed to get certain people together and not others for no other reason than it must have been difficult to co-ordinate.

In My Sister's Shadow was first, then Naked at Dawn.

I just checked. She wrote and published Naked at Dawn in September 1974 while Leslie was still in Fairview.

Maybe it tanked and she re-released it like In My Sister's Shadow which was released first in 1975 and went nowhere (Vanessa re publicised it and made it popular in 1978)ย

Or maybe Bell forgot about the 1974 book and they named her later book Naked at Dawn by accident. Lorie clearly states in September 1974 that her book is Naked at Dawn.ย

Yes, Naked at Dawn was the first book Lorie had written. She penned In My Sister's Shadow later on, about her contentious relationship with Leslie.

I imagine Fairman might have just jumped on duos or groups of people who were already talking to each other anyway, and asked them for brief interviews. With prior planning, it would have made sense to include Tom Hallick.

I've always been curious to see more eps focusing on Lorie's book scandals. There's a handful of those years available but I never know quite where to look.

My recollection isย Naked At Dawnย was first, and it was written under the pseudonym "S.M. Brand".ย  It was loosely based on her collegiate experiences in Europe, and it annoyed Stuart Brooks.ย  The next one wasย In My Sister's Shadowย and was a hatchet job on Leslie, which led to more contention between Lorie and Leslie.ย ย

In Spring/Summer 1992 I know Traciโ€™s novel she was working on was called โ€œImpasseโ€ which was loosely based on her falling relationship with Brad.ย

On the Wings of Idiotsย was definitely one of Traci's epics, because that's about the most patronizing title I've ever heard of.ย  We used to laugh about it on the old Mediadomain boards, that Traci was flying high, "on the wings of idiots".ย  About the same time, Francesco Quinn's character was publishingย Master of the Dustย andย The Secret Flower.ย  Nina Webster was working onย A Cry in Thin Air.ย ย Cole had one too --ย Hope in a Bottleย (?)ย  They were ALL writing best-sellers for a while there.ย ย

I Didn't Even Know About "Naked At Dawn" until I put this Clip Together:

But "In My Sister's Shadow" is quite a Classic! I believe Leslie had 2 Breakdowns over It!

They do seem to announce it more then once when a recast comes in. I think they did that for Brenda Dickson upon her 1983 return based on the vault clips.ย

In A Re-Aired Episode from 2004 Drucilla Recalls her humble beginnings and it Features Veronica Redd and It certainly wasn't long after Her First Meeting with Ray's Mamie, My Guess Would Be Marguerite Ray Left By Friday and On Monday Redd Was There, Like Brenda Dickson and Bond Gideon in 1980

I don't remember this:

Quote

Show veteranย Melody Thomas Scottย recalls a story that featured infant CPR, which is nothing like the adult version. โ€œI think Bill and Lee wanted the world to know the difference,โ€ she says. On the soap, a baby swallows a coin and Victor Newman โ€” of course โ€” becomes the hero by showing viewers the correct CPR technique.

โ€œWe got so many calls in our โ€˜Y&Rโ€™ office the day after that episode aired, some mothers in tears, so grateful,โ€ she says. โ€œThat is the ultimate goal of sneaking in some social issues because it can save lives. It can change peopleโ€™s lives.โ€

Janice Lynde admitted that she gets "goosebumps" thinking about the show celebrating its 50th year, saying, "I've said it before -- it's surreal because we weren't sure we would last for one year during Watergate, that's how long ago it was in 1973, and it's absolutely thrilling.ย I think it's fabulous. Thank you to Lee [Phillip Bell] and Bill [William J. Bell] for creating it!"

The actress added that as a former concert pianist, working on the soap "put me on the international map in a way I wasn't before" and that she became "the world's sweetheart for a few years."

Looking back on her time on the series, she revealed that the love story between Brad and Leslie was her favorite. "We were the original super-couple of daytime and I had a mental breakdown and Bill Bell really wrote it," she recalled. "I did a lot of research for it and was in a locked ward at UCLA for research and it helped a lot of people in the audience who had psychiatric problems to be able to get resources. So I loved that it was a great story to play, but it also helped the audienceย before it was a popular thing to talk about."

Bryton James shared an experience that proves Brown's theory correct. The actor sharedย how, during a period when his character experienced deafness, he was approached by a fan who wasย deaf. "[They] came up to the table and just dropped a note down and walked off. They didn't say anything," he recalled. "I read it and they [shared] that they've been watching the show for years and just how moved they were by my performance and they thought that it was believable. And that meant the world to me -- more than any award or anything like that -- to portray something like losing a sense and having someone that's actually experienced it think that I was doing a decent job. [That] is everything."

James threw Eva Longoria's name into the ring, noting that "she was on the show a minute ago" as well as actor Shemar Moore, who previously playedย Malcolm Winters on the soap series. But most of all, James says he'd likeย Victoria Rowell to reprise her role asย Drucilla Winters. "I want my mom to come back... that's my number one," he admitted.

BELLย He came to me. My first job was as an extra, sitting on an airplane with David Hasselhoff [who played Dr. Snapper Foster] while he was doing a scene. I said, โ€˜oh my gosh, that was so easy.โ€™ And [her dad] was like, โ€˜okay, youโ€™re too young. You didnโ€™t get the point of what that exercise was.โ€™ So he waited a couple years and then he put me on for two days. Jabot Cosmetics had a junior line that Ashley was starting and I would be the teen model. It was not one of my proudest moments. I mean, I had so much fun, but looking back at those tapes, it was brutal. I was from Chicago, and I couldnโ€™t sayย model. So I did the best I could. I learned as the summers went on. Thank you, audience, for being very patient. But after a couple episodes I asked if I take some acting and singing lessons, could I do just two more? And my dad said, โ€˜maybe we can figure out a way to do this for two more.โ€™ Then I just really got lucky because fans were writing in, saying โ€˜this was so exciting. I always watched with my family with my kids buzzing around and to have a younger character was great because suddenly they stopped playing and turned around.โ€™ So Tricia Cast [Nina Webster] came on and Thom Bierdz [Phillip Chancellor] so it was Nina and Cricket and Phillip.
