Eileen Davidson ... was not an attractive woman during her first stint on Y&R up until midway through her first DAYS run.

In fact, she was just awkward looking. She started looking more sleek and attractive from about 1996 onwards, IMO.

How liked/sympathized with was Veronica/Sarah to the audience back in 1997-1998? Did they like the character/actress? Was she liked as a psycho?

I adored her.

That's one story I'm glad MAB didn't "revisit".

The story initially seemed a little aimless but once Veronica went completely off and shot Nikki and Josh there was a huge jumpstart. Y&R had a listless few years and this was the way they said, "We're back!" I think fans did like her, and Candice Daly did a wonderful job. They stretched the story out about long as they could and gave her a sad exit.

Thank God for that!

Oh yes, Nikki's shooting was definitely Y&R's big way of saying that 1996-1997 are over in more ways than one lol It was the beginning of another great period for the show. I do find Daly wonderful and her dying in Miguel's arms was pretty sad.

I also remember how brilliantly the scene where Veronica shot Nikki was executed. The use of music and lighting made it by far the creepiest thing I've ever seen on a soap.

Doing that to Nikki, any such huge act of violence, and then having her reconcile with Victor after a decade apart (give or take) was a masterstroke. Kay Alden really took Y&R back to its basics at this point, with this story and the Katherine/Jill battles, all without endlessly going to the press to talk about how awesome she was.

Most were bored by her.

They felt about her then the way they do about Patty now.
