That besides the fact Cole wasn't his! It was pretty much implied Victor was The Boy's Father in the 1980's, To Retcon that into him being Rick Daros' Son when Eve And Rick Didn't even meet until 1984 When Cole was At least 7 was bizarre! But I Think Bell wasn't paying that Much Attention to Y&R at the Time as much as to B&B!

He isn't Rick Daros' son, that is a fan story that got around. I just googled it and I see all the fan sites list his father as Rick. That's not true.

In the 80s clips in the vault, it is established that Eve claims Charles is Victor's son. He does not accept this but did create a trust fund for him just in case. In his will he'd planned to leave his fortune to Victoria (when she was still considered Kevin Bancroft's daughter, although Victor might have known the truth by then) and Cole. That's the reason that Eve tries to marry him and kill him in 1983.

When Eve died in the 90s, they tested the DNA against some other guy. I don't remember his name but it wasn't Rick Daros... @YRfan23 probably knows the exact date to point you to the episode or recap (he knows everything

Eve and Rick did hook up in the sanitarium and escaped in 1984... I suppose they could have had more children but that storyline never played out (hopefully the Y&R historian doesn't tell Josh Griffith!).

That has ALWAYS bugged me, @yrfan1983.  Even back then, I was aware of Eve's history, so to bring her back without anyone reaching for the phone to call the authorities was just odd to me.  Did Bill Bell think it was so long ago that nobody would have remembered or cared?  Or was that a sign that his mental faculties were beginning to fail him?

My recollection is that Eve was constantly trying to make Victor "bond" with young Charles Victor during Eve's first run in 1980.  But then again, nothing much during that period of time made a lot of sense.

The little kid (Charles Victor) was blond, and looked nothing at all like Victor.  But then it turned out Eve Howard and Derek Thurston knew each other, and the two of them reconnected to steal Victor's medical records (the vasectomy) and send the file to Julia Newman.   When I learned Derek already knew Eve (and Charles Victor was blond like Derek Thurston), I assumed the kid was Derek Thurston's son.  But then Derek was dumped from the show, and that was that.  lol.

Maybe Joe LaDue's random exit was due to Jeanne Cooper's absence from the majority of the first half of '81 (perhaps because she was in rehab...? she mentions rehab in her memoir but doesn't provide dates).

There was such a set-up in fall '80 to have Kay marooned on the island with Felipe and then seems like it wrapped up in 1-2 eps at the beginning of '81. Would make sense if the writers had to craft a quick exit for JC.

Yep, that sounds about right.

Kay Thurston basically came back from Felipe's Island Paradise one random day in early 1981, popped into Victor's office and said, "Kindly continue running Chancellor Industries for me, for the love of heaven," then dropped by her mansion and told Derek Thurston, "Jerrick, I've changed while I was away.  I'm afraid your free ride has come to an end," then popped over to see Douglas Austin and told him she wasn't terribly interested in him anymore, either.  She then disappeared into thin air until the Jerry Cashman/male escort storyline started months later, in the summertime.

Derek disappeared after she dumped him.

I felt like the "punchline" of the Charles Victor Howard storyline was intended to be an ironic twist, in which (a) Derek and Eve did all this sleuthing and stealing of Victor's medical records to prove Michael Scott was the father of Julia's unborn baby, and -- surprise! -- it was really Victor's fetus, (b) the kid who was alive and alleged to be Victor's kid (Charles Victor Howard) wasn't Victor's son at all but instead was -- surprise! -- Derek Thurston's kid, and (c) Jill Foster would discover that the mysterious tyke who'd been living in her house all along was Derek Thurston's kid, and she'd never even known it.

But obviously with the permanent exit of Derek, the months-long absence of Kay Chancellor, and the sudden flop (and disappearance) of Jill's new beau John Abbott (Brett Halsey), it seemed every vestige of several different storylines (including the paternity of Charles Victor) fizzled completely and were relegated to the Bill Bell Wasteland of Unanswered Questions.   Which was pretty typical of Y&R in 1980 and 1981, lol.

lol, yep, that was discussed.  Kay had actually visited her ob/gyn, who assured her that she hadn't started menopause yet and could still have a baby with Derek if she was determined to.  (I believe Jeanne Cooper was 48 or so at the time, although she appeared to be 67.)

Turned out Derek already had a son with Suzanne Lynch, which is what dragged Suzanne to town.

But with this (haphazard) Eve Howard storyline, Kay was presumed dead, and her estate was "up for grabs".  Brock had technically already received his inheritance from Gary Reynolds and had squandered it.  Young master Phillip Foster had been declared illegitimate by the courts, with no known father.  Derek Thurston was presumably the sole heir to Kay Chancellor's money, as she was missing on an island with Felipe.  If some unfortunate event had happened to Eve Howard, and if Jill had taken custody of young master Charles Victor Howard -- who turned out to be Derek's -- then Jill, fresh from her break-up with John Abbott and Jack Abbott, would've had a stake in Kay's estate.  But obviously none of that happened, as all of the stories going on at the time seemed to be short-circuited (and it's just as well, because it was becoming pretty clear that Lilibet Stern, Terry Lester, Doug Davidson, Melody Thomas, Eric Braeden, and Michael Damian were the audience draws in all that convoluted mess.)

    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
