Lol, most days at work all I think about are soaps!  I always do an inventory list in my head of what episodes of Classic Y&R we have so far, how much of the episode we have, and what is still missing from certain years…lol I just get bored easily

Hah, once I was driving around my neighborhood, and only a couple of blocks from my house I saw a man jogging in a Y&R shirt! I swear I almost pulled over.

Pretty sure Victor realized it after she'd been shot. There are scenes of him in the hospital reminiscing about Nikki with some early 80s scenes.

Ha! Could that have been me...??

That's so funny that Victor remembers his love for Nikki, while she is in the hospital bed, b/c that's exactly what happened in winter '92 as she was recovering from the back surgery and her addiction... he kept having visions of her, which were kinda awkward as they seemed to lean a bit "Victoria's Secret"/almost pornographic...

Now I am rewatching the german episodes from 1986. Victor wants a divorce from Nikki for months now. But Casey told him Nikki is ill in will be dying, so Victor is in love with Nikki again. The same pattern.

I'm really often thinking about the stories of Y&R.

At the moment I hate Kay. Oh she was so in love with Phillip, but as I know was she drinking for years and sleeping with other men. Yes, that was a very big love.

Jill is so a bad person, but Dina is so a good person. Dina had an affair  which resulted in Ashley. She left a husband with 3 children without speaking first to John. Then she tried to kill the father of Ashley. But Kay thinks Dina is good for John and Jill is the devil.

Even up to around Jan or Feb 98, Nikki and Victor were not on good terms. After Nikki learned Diane wanted a baby and Victor wasn't really interested. Nikki turned up at a party Diane and Victor had thrown (it was some big deal but I can't remember what it was) and announced she and Joshua were planning to start a family, sticking it to Diane and ruining her party. Victor was furious with her. The shooting happened only a few weeks later and Victor was suddenly in love with her again.

Yeah, Katherine/Dina’s friendship was a little bizarre at times. All 3 women aren’t too different from one another, but I guess if Dina had tried to steal Phillip from Katherine, she would have made it her mission to make Dina’s life as miserable as she did Jill’s. That always seems to be a double standard with Katherine where unless she’s wronged by somebody like she felt she was with Jill all those years, she can commiserate with woman who have actually done far worse and left their family behinds like Dina, because Katherine was also that bored and unhappy wealthy society wife for all those years too.

i feel like by Dec '91, Katherine saw how Dina could be shady... lying about her fake illness being the reason she stayed away for so many years. But by Jan '96, Katherine was happy to summon Dina back to Genoa City...

Ok, I dug through the SOC yearly recaps to figure out what happened to Victor and Nikki’s ’98 remarriage…

•    Summer ’98 – Diane reveals she is still legally married to Victor. Somehow this is resolved and V&N resume their marriage
•    Spring ’99 – they are separated when Victor is kidnapped. Victor bonds with Ramona and Nikki reconnects with Brad
•    Summer and fall ’99 – V&N’s relationship deteriorates as Victor won’t have his vasectomy reversed to have another child with Nikki, and later she is betrayed to find out about his sperm sample. Brad tries to lure Nikki away and Ramona continues to lurk around.
•    2000 – Nikki separates from Brad, and is still married to Victor but their relationship is shaky. He is betrayed by Nikki bailing out Jabot from bankruptcy. I assume their divorce is processed sometime late 2000?
•    2001 – not much V&N romance, they are occupied with other stories
•    Spring ’02 – V&N reconnect, and Victor goes on his journey of self-discovery, revisiting his prior loves
•    Sept ’02 – V&N remarry again. I won’t dig through the archives to figure out when they next divorce, but I know by 2005, Nikki is dating Bobby. Oh yea and Victor kissing Sharon in ’03 prob didn’t help matters.

Two classic Y&R tiktoks come to mind when reading this

1. Jill and Dina, with Dina really trying to stick it to Jill

And 2 a great scene of Liz Foster finally throwing it back at Kay.  I always remember Liz as being a rather put-upon somewhat weak woman, so it always pleases me when she speaks her mind.

But, for pete's sake Liz, don't let Kay drive you anywhere!

I often wonder if part of the CBS daytime marketing campaign was to create obtuse taglines so that they stuck in the audience's head.

I mean what the heck is a Y&R minute?

30 years later, I'm still trying to figure out how in the heat of the day, there's a different kind of fire?

And what lyrical genius thought it was enticing to remind us that in the heat of the day, it's hot?

    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.

    • Lol.  I love that this board still allows misinformation from a bad source.
    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
    • I totally didn’t pick up on that. Just perfect! I don’t get the Maurice Johnson hate around here at all. He didn’t take me out of the scenes at all. I understood everything he was portraying. It was great. I do wonder if there will be a personality shift with the new actor, whom I’m still not excited about. Exactly. Right? I’m in the exact same boat as you. Agree with most of this except I never found anything off with Ted, didn’t suspect a thing. I just watched yesterday’s episode and it was one of the best soap episodes I’ve seen in a very long time. I was enthralled the entire time. Just fantastic.
