This is different soaps being covered but here is an episode of 48 Hrs from 1989 discussing the soaps.....they also show the behind the scenes of Cricket/Derek rape scene which is interesting since days22 just posted that episode......Lauralee went to Kay Alden for advice for her scenes.....Alden was raped herself years ago, I didn't know that....

Thanks for posting this.

Such great backstage stuff and access to things I never thought we'd ever see, but also such intense, infuriating condescension from the reporters. How unprofessional to keep asking the actors how they feel about working on such low forms as soaps, or editing Lucci's claims about Erica Kane to come on right before Dano's humbler assertions, making Lucci look OTT and ridiculous. And the especially cringeworthy segment with University.

Still, great to see various, average people talking about soaps (not just overweight middle-aged women), including men!!!

And writers talking about how something doesn't make sense/may not be earned. Imagine that!

LOL at Braeden being his motherfucking diva self. I would cut him if he tried to do something like that with my scripts.

Yeah the Lucci and Dano thing was very contrived....I think most soap fans know that Lucci isn't the diva people think she is (for the most part)

That "University" soap looked OTT but interesting if that makes sense?? haha.....I mean come on I think most colleges would be too ashamed to film their own soaps.....nowadays everyone just makes their own reality show cause that's what's "in" these days....so you can't blame those university people for trying....LOL

It's sad watching the Bill Bell staff plot the show and thinking about the lack of knowledge the current and previous TPTP over the last few years have with this show....I mean you don't long conferences anymore like they did, everything now is just, "Ok so Sharon will sleep with Nick on Monday then Billy on Wednesday....why? because she can!!" no thought what so ever on character development....

I just rolled my eyes at the Braeden part.....I'm hoping Bill made him do the whole thing anyway cause there's no way HE would cave into Braeden like everyone does now...

I finally watched that 48 Hours piece, and what annoyed me the most is how they kept trying to bait Bill Bell and others on the show to act like they were doing crap and they should just phone it in because fans were too stupid to notice. They just seemed to hate the idea that the soaps were of any quality whatsoever.

What they did with Susan Lucci, setting her up to look silly and deluded compared to Linda Dano, was beyond unprofessional.

I think my favorite part of the piece was Bill Bell's response to whether they'd keep doing issue stories if they tanked the ratings. Idealistic-but-pragmatic in action.

The stuff about Kay Alden came next.

Rick Domeier, the Jack auditioner they kind of gave the edit which suggested we should see him as fooling himself, became a QVC host in 1994 and is still there. I guess he got the last laugh.

The majority of the media has always had a disdain for soaps and soap fans and slams them every chance they get.

I miss Bill Bell. Y&R died when he did. Kay Alden could have carried on the legacy, but Sony threw her under the bus by sticking her with that albatross Lynn Marie Latham.

Personally, I thought the chemistry between Espy and Stewart was far superior. In an interview once, Stewart acknowledged that her character had a social-worker complex, and needed to fix broken people. Espy's Snapper was an emotionally stunted, troubled young man, and it made sense that a do-gooder like Chris would be drawn to him. (Well, besides the fact that he was gorgeous.) In an review published in Daily TV Serials, the critic noted of Espy's performance: "Have you ever seen strength look so vulnerable?"

    • YR did air on the West Coast, only BOLD was a full pre emption They'll probably remove the BOLD episode once they realize lol
    • Today's episodes of B&B and Y&R are both up at cbs.com. No idea how this is a "full preemption." These morons need to get their ish together.
    • I may have to take a break, Ambyr has me dang near crying every time I watch.

    • I think @DRW50 had it right when he said that the Lechowicks couldn't categorize Laura as easily as they could the other women on the show.  Laura wasn't vixenish like Abby, nor was she was a heroine in the same mold as Val or even Karen.  She was entirely down-to-earth, and more the type who plays things closer to the vest.  Plus, her marriage to Greg was pretty solid (with Laura knowing exactly the kind of man she'd married) to the point where splitting them up and keeping them apart would've taken more effort than perhaps they were willing to expend. I mean, it's easy to generate conflict between Mack and Karen, because Mack and Karen are both very stubborn people who believe they can handle crises on their own; and it's easy to generate conflict for Gary and Val, too, because each is basically an overgrown teenager who'd rather suffer in silence than just express to the other how they feel.  (If only Val had swallowed her pride and just taken Gary back when he begged her to, lol).  But, unless you're Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, you'll be at a loss over what to do with a mature, adult relationship like Greg and Laura's that is built on each being 100% aware of the other's flaws.  Greg sniffing around Paige?  If that had happened while Laura was still aware, she would've just smirked or rolled her eyes and moved on.
    • B&B has uploaded May 8th episode to cbs.com and paramountplus. I wonder if it will remain or be removed?
    • -- Off, indeed. I wrote my rant while watching the show. Then I heard Dante mention manslaughter and Danny in the same sentence. Just over-the-top ridiculousness. -- Is Brad written off for good? If so, what a lousy exit. -- Portia is looking sooooooo dumb these days. Just clueless as to how she's coming across.
    • As usual, Dani makes everything all about herself.   Sweetie.. this isn't about you.   I think deep down, the Dupree would be relieved if Dani wasn't around.
    • I watched it all. I was fine with her on both GH and on PC. But, what you describe for Llanview would've worked really well. I just think the whole concept of moving her from show to show was  in big trouble from the start. And, there were some specific blunders, like MAX, GMAB, she had no idea whether she'd had a boy or a girl and he was at least a decade older than any of the others.  I did very much like the idea that Myrtle was her mom.

date: Thursday, May 8 | Ron Carlivati, Danielle Paige | Phideaux Xavier I love the continued references to real-life things; I feel like that's been so avoided in American daytime soaps for such a long time. Dana is genuinely unhinged; she is giving Glenn Close as Alex in Fatal Attraction to the fullest extent, acting as if she's the ultimate love of Ted’s life when she was nothing more than a sidepiece. Not Dana packing up Eva's belongings and throwing her ass out like she is common trash. The child bride is giving a cheap trailer wife look with this look. But she needs to sit her behind down; this is not her fight. This existed before anyone knew she even existed. This is between Bill and Ted right now. I feel like Dani is speaking from experience, knowing of Bill's infidelity throughout her marriage, and I do feel like this is her [trying] to protect her big sissy from the hurt she's been experiencing. Not Anita comparing Ted to Bill; they're both scum men who did not deserve the Dupree women they conned into marrying them. Katherine is putting demands on her new relationship with Tomas; I understand it, but that is not healthy at all, no matter which side. If Tomas demanded that of her, I know she'd high-tail it out of there. Cannot have double standards. Dani walking in, commanding the room, and tossing Hayley out of her own living room? Whew. Not Dana legitimately throwing the photo out of her and Eva; that's cold. "There is no purchase in what might have been," Anita Dupree. What brilliant advice. So wise. Full of wisdom. So now Ted wants to get a hotel room for Eva and then get her her own apartment? Well, okay then. Notes: Ambyr Michelle (Eva) once again gave a masterful performance in today's episode. She's so going places outside of daytime. I see her doing her three-year contract (if that's how they're done for this soap) and ditching it to go back into primetime/film. It is abundantly clear to me why Maurice Johnson (Ted) is exiting the role. I have not bought his performance once throughout any of the "reveal" nor in today's episode. I'm not compelled to believe him or believe in him. At all. There is no emotion in his performance.
