What was the deal with Susan Oliver as Laura? Flannery left big shoes to fill and obviously Oliver didn't work out. does anyone know more as to why her stint was short lived and unsuccessful?

Once Bill/ Laura and Mickey/Maggie were married off there was never any strong story for them.

One question I have covcerns Maggie's paralysis. At what age was she paralyzed? I ask this, cos I wondered if they could have brought in a child for her that perhaps was given away due to her condition. That would have opened up a can of worms, especially if Maggie was reunited with the child and the father...

From the March 31, 1981 Digest. SOD Publishing Inc The cast celebrate the show's 15th anniversary, and Joe Gallison gets married. This issue also has an interview with Joe. I will type it up if anyone is interested.

I believe the last time Dougie's name was mentioned was around 1986/1987 when Doug returned to Salem without Julie. Dougie is mentioned in a scene between Doug & Hope. I saw the scene recently on youtube. It was several years before Doug learned that Dougie was his son, after Rebecca was killed (in a plane crash I believe). Hope & Dougie had been playmates when they were small, before they knew they were siblings. Rebecca & Johnny took Dougie away for awhile. I seem to recall that Hope missed her playmate & substituted her doll for a real baby in a carriage at a playground (and took the real baby home!).

Thanks for filling us in about that. I'm glad they remembered him even at that late date, but I don't get why they didn't have him come back later on. How about bringing him back now and having him with a chip on his shoulder and he takes Hope further to the dark side?

    • Probably less than a NBC or ABC soap. There were occasionally slaps. Women slapped men. And parents occasionally slapped their children. There was a period when Mindy and Roxie would fight. But slaps between women were few and far between. The only one between women I can really recall is Vanessa slapping Nadine. There was once where Bea Reardon almost slapped Vanessa, but she didn't. There are probably more, but in general, I always thought CBS soaps (aside from B&B, which used to love Stephanie slapping Brooke) shied away slapping, sort of the way they limited "hell"s and "damn"s to so many per week.

My favorite moments are with Erika and then Robin and Tim Stickney around 7/8 minutes. There are also little yellow bumper moments with the crew, which I enjoy more than the real ones.  There's also a music video at the end to I Will Survive, with Linda Dano and JFP having a cameo (they certainly do know how to survive). Also a fun bit with a frazzled crew member showing cards with the names of every EP she presumably worked for at the show.
    • I think in the long run they can probably get more out of Gio, even though I know GM probably won't be around long enough for it to matter. The show has a real problem on how to handle Nik in future, which affected Spencer. Laura is moribund and her role in Spencer's story didn't do her many favors. They would have kept Esme around even longer. A lot of Sprina fans would have hated GM as he was replacing NAC. And even the fans who did accept him wouldn't have mattered because Frank likely would have split that relationship up ASAP. There's a good chance we'd get a Spencer/Emma pairing, only with Emma and the actress playing her getting dragged on social media every day and with people calling her a racist.
    • I like the pool set as well.  It's something different, guys and girls in skimpy clothes and all that.  I dislike when they have characters in full on business attire having meetings there though.  That seems silly. The pool depth is also ridiculous.  They should just have characters sitting on the side with their feet in the pool if they can't shoot it correctly.
    • I also assumed Tanquir was in Africa. Montega was in the Caribbean, more like Cuba.
    • I got the impression Andre was opening up to Dani about his feelings, that's why I thought he was about to admit he was in love with her. Dani has no idea that what's good for her is right in front of her face. Tomorrow we might get a love scene set to an R&B slow jam.
    • No, he was pining for that walking sleeping pill Ashley, and then later texted Dani for a hookup when he felt lonely. He and Dani got into it a bit as she’s not ready to be seen openly with him still, and they both realized they were hung up on other people - Andre on Ashley (thought he never said her name) and especially Dani on Bill.  Of course neither learnt anything and then proceeded to have sex again.
    • I'm glad there's a pool set if only for the eye candy. I do think they need to be careful when filming. Today, the direction was off with Kai in the pool -- it looked like he was sitting in a wading pool, and it was clear there was no depth to the water. Also, as I mentioned before, the view from those large windows looks fake as hell.
    • From my notes: San Cristobal with an “a” is from ANOTHER WORLD. Mac, Carl, their fathers, Ian Rains & his father, and Paulina had history on that equatorial island. Paulina was visiting there researching her past & fell for both Ian & Jake McKinnon! San Cristobel with an “e” is from GUIDING LIGHT and is the island kingdom where Prince Richard & Prince Edmund were from. Others with history there were Reva when she was Princess Katherine, Jonathan, Olivia, etc.
