If only they'd spent money on good casting. Linda Gray was beyond an unknown when she was cast and she became a huge international presence. Imagine the tumbleweed playing Elena and Rebecca even being known at 7-11.

What i also hope is because many don't like the new show they hope it gets cancelled. Then they'll complaining how the show should've had a second season. This is not network television. 30 million people will not watch this of any show anymore.how is the show doing horribly? I don't mean to start anything but I just need to know why.

Yeah I don't think anyone in the original cast was all that great when it came to acting. I don't recall any Emmy nominations, not that that always means anything. What they did have was charisma and it all just clicked at the right time.

The cast is weak as hell. Frankly the standouts in the younger cast have been those that are not part of the main 3. The actor who plays Tommy and I think the actress who plays Rebecca has potential.

I think what I read about Dallas is that one selling point due to it's brand is that they can better sell it internationally where shows like The Closer and Rizzoli and Isles have struggled there.

I Don't for a second believe TNT is happy with the numbers but the show has enough of a brand I would guess that a renewal was probably a given and it gives them a chance to improve the weak links.

They're definitely consistent - they drop every week.

Dallas wasn't just a show, it was a touchstone, and the remake got quite a bit of promotion. I don't think the remake would ever be a huge hit, but I think it should be doing better than this, and I think that it would be if they had made some easy improvements. As soon as I saw this new cast I knew they would not be able to carry a show.

A show starting at #1 in the cable rankings and falling out of the top 10 to #15 in only its third week on the air isn't consistent at all.

It may pick up again for all we know, but numbers have dropped week to week and have not leveled off yet.

TNT has spent more money promoting it than any of their other original programming.

Barbara Bell Geddes won an Emmy in 1980 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drams Series, the only cast member to win one.

But primetime soaps were always considered the lowest of the low in primetime television by both critics and the academy. It was always shows like Hill Street Blues, Cagney & Lacey, St. Elsewhere, LA Law, and thirtysomething winning Emmy's.

I never knew why they pretended LA Law wasn't a soap - it was the biggest soap in the late 80's, so messy, and the stories took a backdrop to the screwed up characters and relationships. And of course St. Elsewhere, which would never be called a soap then (probably not now either) but had some of the purest soap melodrama of anything anywhere.

Larry Hagman is a fine actor, and I think Dallas proves it. When he came along as JR it was almost culture shock considering all anyone knew him from was I Dream Of Jeannie. And that he was able to do so much with JR I think shows his versatility. Tony Nelson was nothing like JR. There aren't too many actors who wound up with two career defining roles and had he not been good, JR would have gone over like a ton of bricks with TV critics and audience clamoring for the nice Larry Hagman back.

Barbara Bel Geddes was a legitimate actress, I think Ken Kerchevel was great in his role too. It is sort of like on Dynasty it is so easy to dismiss Joan Collins and her cartoonish role, but she played the role perfectly.

Joan Collins eventually was a disaster, but she started off well. And I'm sorry, but no way in hell does this cast compare to the original. Barbara Bel Geddes & Jim Davis were perfect as the heads of the family. Larry Hagman, Joan Van Ark and Ted Shackelford all started off brilliant and only got better. The only green actors were Linda Gray, Patrick Duffy, Victoria Principal and Charlene Tilton. Out of them, Linda Gray had little screentime at first so she had time to improve and she became brilliant. Victoria Principal had strong writing out of the gate and tons of charisma. Patrick Duffy did well enough as Bobby, which didn't require much heavy lifting. The only failure was Charlene, but that was only apparent at time went on and they tried to keep her around.

Then you need to tell me if Marta even rates next to Katherine Wentworth, Kristen Shepard, Holly Harwood or Afton Cooper. The only supporting characters that are well cast and written are Tommy and Ann's ex-husband.
