Dallas 2.0: Discussion Thread

Yay for Larry! I hope they can coax VicPri to contribute in some way. That interview seems nice. I would listen to it, but I always feel awkward listening to interviews...she seems like she's in a good place in the transcript, though.

Screwing around with the Barnes family is stupid. That girl should be seen as just as important to the "next generation" aspect as John Ross and Christopher. I wonder if they'll even remember old Cliffy.

Victoria Principal interview. She talks about Dallas...New Dallas 2.0 and how she would return....

that was a great interview! I didn't realize VP was so salty with the language. I love how despite Pam being on after she left the show (and being told about this) she insists Pam is dead.

One thing that disappointed me is that according to Pamela on Ultimate Dallas, the history with the Barnes family has been re-written and they aren't included at all. Originally Cliff and Afton's daughter Pamela Rebecca was included, but she's been re-written as someone unrelated. Weird since that fued was such a huge part of the original that they wouldn't include it or would try to re-write it.

In positive news, Ultimate Dallas said Larry Hagman is officially signed on.

The thing with Barnes angle is it was all Ken Kercheval. I don't see how you include a Barnes element without him, and he doesn't seem to be part of the crew being asked back. KK always gets left out when people think of who it was that made Dallas. He was there from the 1st episode to the last, and I don't think Dallas would have been nearly as good without him.

That was a great interview, and she has a great throaty smoker's laugh. She also has a great (that's three greats) way of being honest without at all sounding bitchy or bitchy on the low.

I loved the interview, she came off terrific and cleared up a few things about her exit from the show. What an affable, friendly, funny, terrific lady. I'm happy to hear that she's doing so well and living it up!

Pam isn't dead, but I don't see the point in her returning.imo The only people that really need to comeback for a while are: Sue Ellen, Jr, bobby, and Cliff. They are afterall the people that raised the next generation, pam didn't raise christopher. Ok, maybe it would be a little interesting to see pam come back into christopher's life after 20 plus years.

My question is about southfork are they going to use that set? An if so how are they gonna get rid of jr? because he would never leave southfork back then why would he leave now. All of these revamped shows 90210, melrose place all have a thing about getting rid of the older actors after a season or two, they pretty much are just brought out to give the show a lift anyway. I actually hope they have the younger crew live in dallas instead of just outside of dallas.

I could be wrong, but I can totally see them using Southfork more as a weekend getaway for the younger generation. It's "hipper, sexier" to have them in sleek apartments in town where they can enjoy the nightlife and such.

I'm not sure if they'll use Southfork or not. It would be easy to argue they built a new, bigger Southfork and just use the original home a secondary home or something. As for JR, the new series begins with him

in a sanitarium in a catatonic state

so that wouldn't be an issue.

WHAT?? Oh Lawd. This might get good! You know Larry will play the hell outta that.

Yeah that JR spoiler is from tv guide. BTW, Pamela on Ultimate Dallas revealed the plot of the original script. Apparently John Ross' wife Becky was Cliff and Afton's daughter Rebecca Pamela. She was married to John Ross, but had a child with Christopher if i recall correctly. Cliff died in the pilot but told Christopher the family history before his death. Also Afton had gone mad at this point, but her mother did play a part in the series as a Miss Ellie type of figure.

Aw, I hope Cliff is still alive in the revised script even if unseen. I don't think anyone should be dead unless the actor is.

I could see cliff dying in the beginning, because the actor didn't look too healthy from their last reunion show. Jr in the sanatorium again, I know it has to be some kind of con, I'm not buying it.

After stories floated that TNT had failed to reach a financial agreement with Larry Hagman to reprise his role of J.R. Ewing in an update of the 1978-91 primetime soap Dallas — and would move forward with an altered script that would write out the popular character — both parties expressed hope that the conflict could be resolved.

And now I'm happy to report that a deal's been struck! Yep, I just got off the phone with Larry, who tells me he's in! "I haven't signed any contract but I gave them my commitment verbally," says the star, who'll turn 80 this year. "I just told them I'd do it and my word's good!"

The updated pilot, written by former Cane scribe Cynthia Cidre, finds 'ole J.R. confined to a mental asylum in a near catatonic state, having not spoken a word in years. How does Larry feel about this bold and startling plot development?

"Whatever they want is okay with me," he says, vowing J.R. won't be locked away for long. "Oh, I'll get out and cause more trouble! That's for sure!
