June 14, 201213 yr Member And YES. If I HAD to nitpick ... the Cattle Baron's Ball was glossed over. It should be a big event. An entire episode. Not a brief thing just to force everyone to interact and give Linda Gray her one big scene in the episode.
June 14, 201213 yr Member I really get why you feel that way Carl. You could be right but I'm enjoying it right now. I think we've all become so jaded by how daytime is run and veterans are treated that we just assume things. I'm really hoping that isn't the case. I'm just glad we get one season of it on tv. Everyone is assuming it will be back next year...but nothing set in stone. I cant wait for it to be released on dvd cause you know it will.
June 14, 201213 yr Member And I want to add that if 90210 and Melrose had been rebooted on Fox, it probably would have been handled much better. The CW never deserved to try and relaunch those shows. At least TNT respects Dallas. It really REALLY shows.

I didnt care for the Baron's Ball set...glad it didnt last long.....miss the old Baron's ball..

I cant wait for it to be released on dvd cause you know it will. I'm pretty sure it will be. It's probably going to skew a little older, though, which is troubling. But I think TNT will renew it. I don't see this as a failed reboot in the slightest.
June 14, 201213 yr Member It depends on how well the youngsters catch on. Frankly none of the 4 young leads are impressive or have the kind of charisma or presence people like Tilton, Victoria Principal, Linda Gray had. They just seem very bland. Hagman did have a Heath crisis if I recall during filming but I'm not sure if this impacted his involvement in the show. How would a modern JR.less Dallas work? If the writing is decent it may not matter. I dont think the show could have struck lightning twice with the casting......Principal and Co. were brilliant and a hard act to follow.
June 14, 201213 yr Member The problem I have with the casting is I feel like they cast bland, bad actors on purpose, as some type of "style" or whatever the word may be. There are some producers who don't want to see acting, they want to see very limited posing (this is one of the things which killed Dynasty). So they just went for boring people who are lucky to get their lines out, instead of the vibrant talent the original Dallas had. If it works, it works, but it means the characters are irrelevant and just trapped behind a glaze. Same. Unfortunately, I don't think recasting Christopher is an option. If Jesse Metcalfe goes, that means Christopher goes with him. Unless they pull a Jack Coleman. Which is possible...if not altogether advisable.

Didn't TNT also push to erase Cliff and Pam and Afton from the show's history?

June 14, 201213 yr Member I dont think the show could have struck lightning twice with the casting......Principal and Co. were brilliant and a hard act to follow. They couldn't have found the same level but it's not hard to find better talent than Brenda Strong and Jesse Metcalfe. Just go out on the street corner.
June 14, 201213 yr Member Same. Unfortunately, I don't think recasting Christopher is an option. If Jesse Metcalfe goes, that means Christopher goes with him. Unless they pull a Jack Coleman. Which is possible...if not altogether advisable. We could cast Donna Reed as new Christopher....u know to haunt Larry Haggman....lol They couldn't have found the same level but it's not hard to find better talent than Brenda Strong and Jesse Metcalfe. Just go out on the street corner. Oh of course they could have done better in casting...I still hope they make some casting changes in season 2 if the show is picked up.
June 14, 201213 yr Member Even someone like me, who hasn't watched the original and among that new "younger viewer" the network is going after, I have to say, I felt that Larry Hagman & Patrick Duffy carried the show. I don't think at this point, Josh Henderson & Jesse Metcalfe can carry the show without them. It was Bobby and JR that hooked me more so than Chris and John Ross
June 14, 201213 yr Member Anyone watch the aftershow on TNT website??? I am curious what the writer and the cast had to say about the show.
June 14, 201213 yr Member However, I must agree that the 4 and Brenda Strong could NOT sell this show! I don't know why whoever's in charge at the moment insists on marrying off Bobby Ewing. Does Patrick Duffy's ego need stroking that badly? Bobby and Pamela's relationship was magical because of the chemistry between him and Victoria Principal. Whenever they tried pairing Bobby with other women, however, it was clear that it just didn't work. Duffy, likable though he might be, is very wooden as an actor, and even worse as a romantic partner.
June 14, 201213 yr Member I want these.....lol Yes, I agree Khan....Duffy hasnt had any chemistry with other ladies except Principal.
