There is another clip right after it with more reaction.

The crazy thing about the Tod Chandler death scene that was posted a few pages earlier is that he never was a major character, but he got one of the better endings. And as pointed out, nearly every character in the clip was gone not long after. Melissa, Marlena, Liz, Chris, Pete.

I was kind of talking out of my backside about so many people being gone. I'm glad a loyal fan was there to say I was right :)

Thank you for posting this. Wow such strong and natural, powerful acting from Deirdre Hall, on a topic most soaps have the guts to cover. I didn't know Don/Marlena stuff was online. I will have to check this out soon. I know some people feel he was her best partner.

I don't know what happened to Deidre Hall's acting style. She became a very poor actress, IMO, during her second stint at DAYS. It didn't matter that the material was sometimes very bad, but Hall seemed to have given up long ago.

She has more stage presence in the stuff I've seen of her first stint, though by no means did I ever consider her a great actress.

Except for the first week or two of the NuJohn stuff in 2008, she's been totally unwatchable for me since the Possession (and some of that is because it's camp). Some of it was the writing, but there is some absolutely painful stuff. I think some of it is also that she has had virtually no one to play off of, which I think is a necessity for her. She can't carry the load, but can contribute with help. Which existed in her first stint. This may be my opinion alone, though.

Get real! Zimmer took like a dozen paycuts during the last ten years of her tenure at GL for the good of the show. She was a GL fan and wanted it to last and continue to thrive. Say what you want about Zimmer's so-called power and her recent weight gain, but that bitch has got talent and star power. The majority of stalwart GL fans loved her. She was the fricken star, whether she be a size 4 jumpin' in a fountain or a size 18 confessing her love to Josh while standing in front of the lighthouse. And B&B, Y&R, and OLTL have expressed interest since GL's demise so get your facts straight sweetheart ;) Viva la Reva!

I think Holly still had a lot of life in her as a character, though they just never tried in the latter years. Like a lot of things B&E gave us, I would have accepted the Nursery Rhyme Stalker crap being ignored, or at least certain parts of it. Garrett was such a pro throughout that whole thing, even when she publicly admitted to hating that story, she was classy about it.

I have to agree to some extent. But not entirely her second run. I think around 1998 when she negotiated taking more of a supporting role (she said at this point she wanted to see Kristian Alfonso be the next big star, hence the Princess Gina tale) so she could spend more time with her children, that's when her big dynamic performances wavered. But you can't deny her material from 1991-1997 was nothing short of brilliant. From her controversial affair with John while with Roman, to Marlena's struggle for sanity while slowly becoming taken over by the devil, to her intense love triangle with John and Kristen, Deidre Hall brought it like no other during the mid-90's and it's a shame that backstage politics got in the way of a worthy Emmy nomination for her work in 1996.

She and her fans cannot get upset when people point out what the facts were: she bitched and complained to the press in '05 that she refused to take a paycut like her other GL stars, told the show to put up or shut up in firing her, and in the end she got her way.

GL would have survived without Zimmer. Wheeler should have had the balls to call her bluff.

How sad that she basically gave up on all things GL after the whole Sebastian fiasco; how Holly would fall prey to that. So much for character growth and development! Oh well. Maybe Maureen Garrett can team up with Crystal Chappell as an actual lesbian on Chappell's faux-lesbian internet series!

Gimme a break Big Bird. She was doing what any other high profile soap star would've done. I could see Eric Braeden easily doing the same thing. Zimmer stood up for the rights of actors, not just herself. She had to take a stand, and because of her *popularity*, her stance gained headlining press. Had she been Elizabeth Kiefer or Beth Chamberlin (oh wait, those broads had already accepted recurring by 2005), nobody would blink an eye. La Zimmer was fighting for actors' rights and she succeeded. God Bless Her and Viva La Reva!

Yawn. Zimmer's fat. And Rowell's unemployed. Deal with it. But one of these broads has had 3 soap operas interested in hiring them. Guess which one it is? The fat one!

    • How did you guys feel about Devon with Mark Dalton?  I believe so. Brooke needed a storyline that played on her history at that time. I could have seen Brooke fall for him now that she has grown up.
    • Forgive me because this stretches the topic a bit, but I cannot stop thinking about this line in Barbara Rush's (aka AMC Nola Orsini, Ted's mother & Flamingo Road's Eudora Weldon) wiki bio.

The quote comes from an article about Rush's daughter Claudia Cowen who is a reporter for Fox News.  Rush's ex-husband was one of the biggest publicists in Hollywood.  And, she had a famous house in Bel Air.  But, I want to know how at 70 years old, she wound up at the Lloyd Estate, which is huge, and had been owned by Ron Burkle and Ted Field.  The house was worth 60 million dollars in 2001.  But, I cannot find the story of why/when/how she lived there, because whenever she gets asked about it, she always says that she was “staying” there, not that she bought it. BTW, for those that may not know.  Her ex-husband, Warren Cowen, wound up marrying the mother of Sarah Gilbert (Roseanne & The Talk), as well as her siblings Melisa and Jonathan Gilbert (Little House on the Prairie).  So, Ms. Rush did not get her money from him, because she got remarried to a sculptor of minimal reknown, and they divorced in 1973. Ms. Rush died last year with dementia.

    • That's right, Kim Zimmer was pregnant with Jake Weary when Reva was pregnant with Shayne.  I don't think I've seen a photo of Mr. Weary, but from what I can tell Jake looks so much like his mother.
    • The show of late has had me in hog heaven, LOL! But, really, my soaps & I are getting along just fine.  GH is excellent. BTG is beyond fabulous. DAYS is so much better.  What more could I possibly ask for? I know, 30 hours in a day?!!!
    • At the start of 1982 under Ellis/Hunt (on CBS) SFT was solidly in the middle of the 13 soaps pulling in between a 7.5 and 6.5 with high 20s share. The final week on CBS the show garnered a 6.3/23. The first week on NBC and mostly thereafter, the ratings were in the middle 3s with a 12 share! I I think under Tomlin 1 and under Glynn the show might have hit over a 4 and 14 but one week only or so.  Capitol didn't get those numbers until middle of summer and in the first few months hit the 4s and low 5. By year end it was in the low 6s/23 share but struggled for the remainder of its run.   NBC's Search was never going to get 6 / 23 shares but when they were solidly in the high 3s and 12/13 share they invariably fired the writers and producer. Dumb.
    • Wasn't there talk of bringing back Dan Kennicott at some point?  Like, sometime during the late '90's or early '00's?
    • Cliff was Logan's protégé, from the time he was a legal clerk up and until he became ADA. I think you have to have seen Deborah's father for that relationship to make sense, it is very Oedipal.  Mr. Saxon was a charming mobster and was briefly involved romantically with Geraldine.
    • If the actors in question had studied Agnes Nixon's character naming conventions, they could've saved themselves a lot of disappointment. In Pine Valley, there's no way that Wally is going to win in a romantic entanglement with Sean.  Just as Dan Kennicott was never going to be as intriguing as Benny Sago. She was more subtle than Bill Bell, and I can't be certain she even personally named all of these men.  But there is a pattern to be studied. Cliff Warner wasn't as emotionally driven as his name would suggest, but we knew Sean and Linda meant trouble before they even appeared on-screen.
