JAMEY GIDDENS ON MAB .......

"THIS IS SO GREAT!!!!! MY FAVORITE PART WAS WHEN HE COMMENTED ON THE WAY SHE KEEPS MENTIONING BB AND THE WAY SHE SHE BUILDS HERSELF UP.......

Since we've already gone there (sigh), let's move over to CBS, where daytime's top soap (chugs Sky Vodka from a coffee mug), Y&R lost 128,000 total viewers over the previous week. Y&R also went down one-tenth of a ratings point in households and among women 18-49. It will be interesting to see what the ratings will look like for Y&R after the absolutely ****-tastic week the serial just finished— which, as Imentioned, Iam unfortunately caught up on. The reveal Friday that Mama Bear had Lauren Fenmore's ( Tracey Bregman ) sexylicious face was the most awful, asinine, insipid (opens up new browser menu for thesaurus.com ), stinky mess I've seen on daytime in at least 10 years, and that's saying a lot.

We lambasted Lynn Marie Latham for, among other things, giving Sheila Carter, Phyllis's face, now Maria Arena Bell is doing not one, but TWO similarly *******, plot driven stories at the SAME TIME! Un-friggin-believable. Here's a little advice to Auntie Ri Ri , STOP mentioning your late, great daddy-in-law's name in those self-congratulatory interviews until you re-earn your surname and legacy by FIXINGTHISDAMNEDSOAPOPERA!

Yep, I'm like a dog with a bone about this, Iwon't let up until the Bells do, and they give us the rich, psychologically-resonant, CHARACTER driven soap operas their patriarch did for generations. LaToya is a Jackson too, but no one makes the mistake of comparing her to Michael or Janet —Miss Jackson if you Nasty— so I am beyond over comparisons of Maria and/or Brad to the late Bill Bell , until they once again prove they are worthy— on my TV, not in an interview where no one asks, "Why in high hell are you two writing so many awful, ridiculous storylines at the same time?" Iwouldn't wipe my **** with a Bell Dramatic script right now for fear it would give me a rash of stupidity, which is SOfrustrating because Iknow both can do much better, I've seen it. I've PRAISEDit. Come on Bells, STEPUP! Make us love you again."

I just want to share it with y'all ....any thoughts?

Everything Jamey said = +1. But I have to wonder why Jamey chose to speak up NOW?! Why did he wait until now to speak out about how absolutely wretched this show has become? Was he denied access somewhere? Is he, as a black man, finally fed up with the lack of minority representation and the Tonya Lee Williams "that black storyline" thing finally push him over the cliff? Not that he really needs to kiss Maria's ass to get disgruntled employees or ex-employees talking for scoops on his blog. I guess he and Casiello are no longer buds though. :(

Regardless, people are taking the blinders off and waking the f*ck up about these ridiculous Bell shows that are pathetic shells of their former glory. Brad Bell recycles his and his father's greatest hits, Maria recycles everyone else's in daytime. Both of these soaps make Sunset Beach look like high-brow, masterpiece theater.

Putting all my cards on the table: I like Jamey Giddens, even if I don't always agree with his opinions about Mo Benard "killing it" or Billy & Vamptoria. But if anybody has been listening to the DC podcasts, they'd know that the DC contributors have not been happy with Y&R for a good long while. This is the first time, though, that Jamey has put it all down in one, big mega-rant.

Perhaps, as you suggest, DC and other bloggers held back from jumping all over Y&R's tailfeather because they were afraid of getting their access to the show cut off. People have been posting their unhappiness with Y&R for ages on DC and Nelson Branco's FB page. I don't think DC could ignore that groundswell of feeling anymore (though Branco, sadly, remains deafening in his silence). The last two weeks in particular represent "the straw that broke the camel's back." I wonder if some blamed the entirety of the show's troubles on nuAdam/Michael Muhney were waiting to see him leave. However, his absence has not made things better -- if anything, it has exposed just how awful and hollow Y&R is on ALL counts.

And don't you be knocking Sunset Beach! It never pretended to be Masterpiece Theatre. It was what it was -- an Aaron Spelling soap parody with (IMO) some great characters and hugely enjoyable moments.

SuBe was a masterpiece for me because it kept me steadily entertained for two years. Annie Douglas was my girl! But SuBe is being compared to "Masterpiece Theatre," a PBS programme showcasing these BBC costume dramas like Jane Eyre and Bleak House. Obviously Sunset Beach is not Charlotte Bronte, lol.

Jamey also let loose in the latest DC podcast "Performer of the Week." Yvonne Zima (or "non-acting girl" as she is now dubbed) gets a dishonorable mention, which is a no-brainer. But so do the Y&R IIC and JG just goes off on them.

"My dishonorable mention goes to MAB, Paul Rauch, Hogan Sheffer and Scott Hamner. For deciding that it made anybody's horse-sense to embark on a second Evil Twin SL in the midst of another Evil Twin SL in the midst of an Is Adam or is he Not Dead? SL in the midst of an explosion SL in the midst of a plot-driven nightmare that has become the Young and the Restless."

"It just makes it worse when these self-congratulatory executives say these stupid, stupid things."

"Maria and Paul obviously think they are doing a bang-up job because they give an interview every week saying that they do."

"Maria has done worse than LML with this. Because at least with LML's stupd re-write of Sheila's history, she handed the story to a capable actress... [not] this drip of a character [Daisy]."

"Maria has proven over and over again that she doesn't have a clue when it comes to casting unvetted talent.... When she tries to go out and get some unknown or Primetime actor, we end up with Clementine Ford. Or Yvonne Zimapop."

"The hype macine at that show is out of control, because then they run and give interviews telling everybody how great they are. It's like 'No, you're not great. You're hacks.' Right now it's hackery and it needs to stop."

The honeymoon is over.

    • Yes, it has. It was seen in the episodes when Dani broke into the house while Hayley and Bill were on their honeymoon. Dani and a Fairmont Crest security guard were also shown outside the house's entrance. Bill and Hayley were seen in the foyer when they returned. I imagine the set will resurface when there's a need for it.
    • There is some kind of arrangement going on between Justin and Evie, who seems to be caring for Sam. I'm not sure, but she may even be living there with Justin and Phillip. Phillip inviting Evie at least makes a little more sense (if the guest list was limited to women Vanessa liked, it would've only consisted of Trish and Helena. lol)  Maybe it was more common to hang on to performers, back in the day? Instead of immediately kicking them to the curb? Evie hadn't had much to do after Chet was revealed to be her stalker. With Rita, Jackie and Ben gone, there weren't many on the canvas she'd really worked with, other than Ross. They could've pivoted her back to Ross, instead of letting him languish love-less for nearly a year other than goo-goo eyeing Amanda. Nowadays, there might've been a moment written Jordan and Janet, an eye-wink to the audience about them having previously worked together.
    • I 100% agree that Bill and Haley's set would work better as a bedroom. I also think it might have made more sense to give them a penthouse instead of a mansion. Realistically they aren't going to have the room for multiple mansions, even with the larger studios. A more open concept penthouse would've been fine. I also wish more people lived together. The age confusion kinda messes that up but I would at least have Chelsea living with Dani. If Martin were Anita and Vernon's child (as he should be), I'd have these families living together as well. By doing that, the space used for Martin and Smitty's house could be used to build a dining room for the Dupree home and I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to throw a couple bedrooms in as needed.
    • CBS primetime was such a mess in the 1990s. 1990/91 fourth consecutive third place finish. 1991/92 to 1993/94 some signs of life but it didn't last.  1994/95 to 1999/2000 another primetime mess era. 1995 the sale to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. The only bright spots were Touched by an Angel becoming a Top 10 show and Everybody Loves Raymond starting to show growth. CBS primetime would have a comeback in 2000 with the premieres of Survivor and CSI and Everybody Loves Raymond becoming a Top 10 show, and the rest is history.
    •  Thanks! For some reason I had misremembered ER and Chicago Hope going directly head to head but that may have been because of the hype about both shows.    Poor Connie Chung. She seem poised for success and possibly the next Barbara Walters. I don’t recall her co-anchor gig on the CBS Evening News was well received though. She kind of tanked her career moving into more a tabloid journalist role once at ABC and especially once she moved off network TV to CNN and later more infamously on MSNBC.

    • Strangely, it was Phillip who invited Evie to go to the ball with him. She had been taking care of Samantha, so I guess it was a way to thank her for helping Justin after Jackie's death? So she was not invited by Vanessa. Phillip brought her as his plus one. That Evie stayed on the canvas so long is extremely odd, especially since Ben was gone way before her. My theory is Marland was going to bring Rita back, so they wanted Evie to remain in place as her sounding board. When he left and Potter was still EP, that might have still been the plan. Once Kobe came in, that would have been thrown in the dumpster along with a lot of other story plans and characters.
    • Nina and Portia are generally presented as entirely too savvy to not think this ketamine (don't even GET me started on that) nonsense wouldn't immediately blow up in their face. Drew, the ex-navy seal and congressman, wouldn't get a drug test immediately after acting wildly out of character? Portia allowed this to so easily be traced back to her by roping in Brad, a man who can't stand her? Nina didn't think Willow would Stand By Her Man? Girl, PAY ATTENTION! I also find it disturbing how BOTH of them are gaslighting Willow. It feels gross. They should have presented Gio as anything other than a responsible, genial and affable guy if they wanted us to buy any of Dante's ranting about him. You've known this kid since he was a baby and suddenly you're yelling at him like he's the devil incarnate? It was so forced. Every one of them, including Dante, know that they all would have done the same thing in Gio's shoes. Teen gets drunk, friends cover for them. Gio's only 5 years older than him, barely allowed to legally drink himself. How was he to know the kid had alcohol poisoning? Alexa Havins crying every day over keeping a baby secret. Ahh memories. Molly and Kristina are just the worst to their mom and Alexis allows it. Kristina does need to be committed, she's a danger to herself and others. I wish Alexis would just tell her that she knows. I can't wait until Molly finds out about her almost getting Ric and Liz killed. I need her to body slam Kristina. Sasha thinks she knows EVERYTHING. She's always giving advice and painted as right no matter what. And so holier than thou while carrying a married man's baby.
    • Correction, Chicago Hope 1994/95 was initially Thursday 9 pm, a CBS dead zone and head-to-head w/ Seinfeld. 1994/95 CBS Thursday 10 pm initially was Eye to Eye with Connie Chung. Later in the season CBS did a scheduling shift with Chicago Hope moving to Monday 10 pm, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung moving to Thursday 9 pm, and 48 Hours moving from Wednesday 10 pm to Thursday 10 pm.
