Members DRW50
So did I. I thought the whole thing was depressing. I don't think it helped that the show was slowly dying for most of those years.

Members SFK
Okay, I just LOVE the French opening theme for Santa Barbara. If the melody sounds familiar, it's to the tune of Peabo Bryson's "If Ever You're In My Arms Again" which played during the first episode re: Kelly and Joe. <param name="movie" value=" Please register in order to view this content name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"> ETA: I should have asked EricMontreal or FrenchFan, but me and my pathetic French skills did a little Googling and translating, and for those interested, the lyrics roughly translate to: Santa Barbara, Who will tell me Why I have the pain of living? Santa Barbara, I do not know. I am like a drunken boat Carrying my memories.
Members beebs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQxIP8MRAyA Okay so I could only find it as part of this but since whoever had the opening on YouTube took it down, this is as good as it gets. Still...Love Of Life's has always been one of my favourites. BEAUTIFUL song and so very timeless. It would've easily lasted them into the 90s had the show kept running that long. Side note: The Doctors' opening is rather awesome too. Miles better than GH at that time. Then again, from what I've read they generally were miles better than GH at that time anyway so... Members SFK
That LOL montage is a testament to the power of music and the moving image. Maybe seen a clip or two of that show total, but I couldn't help but be moved by that. The music actually reminded me of the music used in this montage: <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0eE_jgMiNg&hl=en_US&fs=1&">
Members quartermainefan
wow, has no one mentioned Dark Shadows? I love the theme, it is so OTT in setting the mood. Please register in order to view this content The 1991 version is a little expanded and I love the flourish starting at 00:50 where it tries to get a little extra, and then about a minute into it that spooky instrument comes on to end the piece http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DILhF8HTpv8
Members Jonathan
That is hilarious! I forgot that Santa Barbara was an international hit. How were they able to use that Peabo Bryson melody? Those lyrics don't even make sense to me. A drunken boat? But the melody makes this theme for sure. Members SFK
"A drunken boat", I know right!? I guess it's lost in translation. Re: Dark Shadows '91, that Jim Fyfe looks like someone you wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator with. And Collinwood looks like such an obvious miniature. These days it'd be CGI. I liked 500 Days of Summer, but I have never liked JGL, geesh, he's been working forever.
Members FrenchFan
Your translation is quite good We often laughed with this opening in France, the "drunken boat" is funny. Indeed he says something like : "I wander like a drunken boat". In French, "ivre" means "drunk" but also in a metaphorical way. It is not really used for a boat that's true but "lost boat" would be the sense here. Have you ever seen and heard B&B French opening? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3kfio_amour-gloire-beaute_shortfilms
Members Sindacco
That was good too but I still prefer the latter one.
Members DRW50
The Dark Shadows credits are certainly iconic. I love the music and the sweeping ocean. Here's the Eterna closing credits. Great theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJ6DoRut9KY
Members Saving ATWT
Agreed, really disliked the opening and hated the graphics. I liked the 2002-06 opening visually and the music was good enough. I, at first, hated the 2006 opening but, looking back, it is actually good and the shortened version of theme music that they use today is probably the best World theme. I hate the current title card but like the cheezy spotlight thing they do during the closing credits. I don't know why Goutman always needed to update the opening and love the manner in which Y&R and Days have remained basically the same. Looking back, Today's ATWT looks cheap which does serve well to sum up the show. World is nothing but a shell of itself anymore.
Members Saving ATWT
The 1991 open for GL was great and should have just been updated with new pix. That show always had the best theme songs
Members Sindacco
I'm suprised no one has mentioned that DAYS for the past year has a much shorter version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiTU3Vow9Kw&feature=related
