RE: Liza/Nina recasts. Sweet Jesus. I'm watching a relatively lengthy string of early 80s episodes courtesy of HamiltonBernique ( ) and this Nina actress is horrible! Truly terrible! She seems like an ex-porn star, to be honest. Very robotic in her delivery, and it's even worse when she's with Zach Grayson and trying to be "enthusiastic." Ugh. The Liza isn't too bad. She's different from MW, but she has a few similarities.

I wonder if she was the Nina who supposedly did not wear any clothes during bed scenes, as some type of realism. :D

Cocaine was a huge problem behind-the-scenes at GL, too.

We could probably throw OLTL in there too, hell, all of the soaps. But I know that RS has said that she had a bit of a problem back then too, until she got a fan letter saying, "I don't know what you're doing, but whatever you're doing, stop it. You look dead behind the eyes." And with that, it was a wrap on the Colombian nose candy.

RS? As in, Robin Strasser?

As in Robin--I've read the same piece. I do think it seemed to be for some reason an even worse prob East Coast--like I mentioned all the Broadway stages were riddled with it even with justifications like "over at Dancin' they do partner work on stage every night and snort FAR more cocaine than we do here at Chorus Line" etc. Wow.

Wow, Robin Strasser on cocaine. Talk about a sight to behold, lol!

I believe Frank died in 1982 or 1983. I find it interesting that in the 1970s, though they probably weren't major players all the time, AMC and OLTL both had decent black couples in Frank/Nancy and Ed/Carla, respectively, but by the early-mid 1980s, they were gone or one their way out. Imagine how great it would be to have black characters who have lasted as long as some of the most tenured white characters in daytime today. If AMC was still about centering its families around strong matriarchs or patriarchs, they could have definitely tried to get either Lisa Wilkinson (Nancy) or Lee Chamberlin (Pat) to fill that role for the Hubbards, and it could be awesome. .

I can't help thinking that, with AMC at least, it was partly as Angie and Jesse became bigger. I know that Frank and Nancy were used to introduce Jesse, but a part of me suspects that ABC had trouble keeping on just so many Black characters... I agree, they could have remained great tentpole figures.

Cast pic from 1982, probably taken around the time Babbin took over for Winther. That was some huge cast, but don't forget that a number of those actors were recurring players. I can identify everyone except for the guy in the back row between Julia Barr and Natalie Ross (Enid Nelson). Anyone have a clue as to who he is?

P.S., now that I look at the pic again, it must've been after Babbin took over, since the two people she fired first--Kathleen Dezina and John Danelle--aren't in the photo.

Welcome to the 1980s. You're 30 years behind schedule. :)

Great cast. Not sure who that guy is either. It looks like an Asian dude but I don't remember any from the 1980s.

Who is that young woman standing beside Richard Shoberg/Tom? Richard looks so cute in that photo.

Who is that man standing beside Richard Van Vleet/Chuck? I've seen him somewhere else.

Who is that with Dorothy Loman/Opal?

It looks like Al Waxman, from "Cagney & Lacey," but I can't be sure.

Who is that with Dorothy Loman/Opal?

Jason Kincaid, who played Sam Brady for a couple of years. He also played Tom Hughes on ATWT after Justin Deas left/

With the size and black and white, I had to press my nose to the screen with some of those faces, a couple of, "Oh, DUH!" moments for me, like Cecily. And Lord forgive me but I am still on the fence to whether that's Charlotte or Mrs. Valentine. Langley looks damn near like Paul Newman. And is that Nico, was he even on already? Couldn't be Benny. And that's got to be little annoying Carl right, not Frankie?

Actually, lol, it is Benny.

Yep.

I could look @ that photo all day and never get bored.
