October 22, 200916 yr Member DAMN Y&R. The viewers may be there now, but those numbers will begin to fall. SO HAPPY FOR DAYS!!!!!!!
October 22, 200916 yr Member I don't even remember what happened on Y&R last week to get a ratings increase. I'm glad DAYS hasn't gone back down yet. Usually they do when they have a big jump. I wonder if all the ABC soaps are still stalled in the same spot.
October 22, 200916 yr Member A spike in Monday's ratings would be a good argument against ABC's practice of showing reruns on major holidays. I've never understood that.

While I understand (and agree) with what you're saying, I don't know if Columbus Day would be a good example, since a lot of people are at work/school on that day. It is not one of the big holidays like Memorial, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's. A spike in the ratings for one of those holidays might be a better argument. But other than that, ITA.

If the viewership rises significantly on what is essentially a bank holiday then I think it's fair to assume it would at least remain steady on many of the other holidays. Not Thanksgiving or Christmas but definitely Labor Day and New Year's.
October 23, 200916 yr Member AMC just sucks.. It's the same crap different day.. Yep. Someone made a good point that it's sad when AMC's May sweeps storyline and their November sweeps storyline is the same: The murder mystery.
October 23, 200916 yr Member I thought DAYS would fall too....but they actually gained a few thousand! Not only that but 4/5 days were above 3 million! Very impressive. Great week for soaps in total viewers - all soaps went up. Huge week for Y&R! Up to 5.3 million. Monday's holiday was big for Y&R and B&B. Y&R got 5.8 million and B&B got 3.8 million. The potential viewers for Y&R are still out there. That's 900,000 and 600,000 more viewers than they had as a total for last week. That's impressive for one day!
October 23, 200916 yr Member AMC is such a mess, I don't know where their ratings come from. Then again you can say that about any soap.
October 23, 200916 yr Member I am convinced that the daily and weekly ratings are random fluctuations causled by external events. Only weeks where there is a stunt or the climax of a story is highly promotion do I believe that it is the story content bringing in viewers. All that said, nice to see Days keeping viewers and holding on in its demos as well as Y&R bouncing back so strongly. Edited October 23, 200916 yr by Ann_SS

October 23, 200916 yr Member I think everyone will be surprised to discover that Y&R doing fine without Victor and/or Nikki. As much as soap fans love these characters, I think that they are so accustomed to cast changes and recast, they won't blink an eye.

As much as soap fans love these characters, I think that they are so accustomed to cast changes and recast, they won't blink an eye. I think the bigger problem beyond Victor and Nikki leaving is what they are leaving behind. I don't know if a lot of viewers will tune out because of their departure, but a few months of stories dominated by Amber, Adam, Nick, and Billy might do it for them.
October 23, 200916 yr Member I am thrilled with Days. What a success story there. If Victor leaves Y&R and the ratings don't changes, doesn't that mean that Sonny can leave GH and have the same impact? I look at what they did on Days(John, Marlena, Patch, Kayla) and I still think all these shows can keep some key vets, integrate them into stories, and bring on newbies gradually, integrating them into stories that way. He can take Jason and Carly with him. Hopefully, Frons will be open to dumping Sonny, Jason and Carly, when Kendall and Zach leave AMC and the ratings don't go down.
