Sony and the show's producers have already cast William Russ ("Boy Meets World") to play a tycoon role not unlike the one played by Braeden. But now there's talk the show could yet add a well-known actor to fill the void left by Braeden's exit.

A source close to the show confirms that the names of Paul Michael Glaser ("Starsky & Hutch") , William Devane ("Knot's Landing") and Peter Strauss ("Rich Man, Poor Man") have all come up in conversations about the future of "Y&R." While no formal negotiations have taken place, the reps for those three actors have expressed at least preliminary interest in the idea of moving to Genoa City.

And why not? A part on the show would offer steady work, decent hours and a seven-figure salary.

"There are a dozen actors who would jump at this chance," one person close to the show said. "It's a great job that pays well."

This is getting so bizarre. Everytime we turn around there are rumors of vets being let go. They are dumping Eric Braedan and seem to be pushing MTS out and yet they are interested in hiring these former primetime stars who are all in their 60s or older. Why? Do they think this is what soap viewers want to see? To populate the show with newbies, characters under 30, and the only older characters being played by old primetime stars? Do they have any understanding of what makes daytime viewers watch and remain loyal?

How does this make any sense budget wise or story wise?

I like William Devane so it would be great if he joins Y&R. I don't mind Y&R adding new blood. EB made his stance and the show goes on.

But why do they need two generic tycoons to fill one vacant role? It doesn't make sense. Also, former primetime actors, no matter how desperate for work they are, probably cost a bit more than the average nobody.

I agree!!! I love WD and would much rather watch him read the effing phone book than EB mumble his lines. What I don't understand is all of the stunt casting they seem to be doing now. Do they think people will tune in just to see these "big" name actors come onto a soap?

If it pays so well, why are actors taking pay cuts, and asked to take pay cuts every contract cycle?

Adrienne Frantz or Daniel Goddard right?

Damn, this show is pathetic. The phasing out of Eric Braeden should have been way more gradual than this, as it was with the Brooks/Fosters.

Maria, someone who boasts and brags so much about her vision and about her (NOVICE) background, should be ashamed of herself.

Since I have NOTHING GOOD to say about MAB or the show at the moment I will just "zip it". But what goes around always comes around!! ;)

because when soaps turned a massive profit top soap stars got a way inflated salary that never came down when the income of soaps came down.

So how do you explain shows going after former prime time stars who no doubt will be offerred nice salaries when the soaps are in such a bad state?

A 7 figure salary? Really?

And yet the vets have to take pay cuts.

So how do you explain shows going after former prime time stars who no doubt will be offerred nice salaries when the soaps are in such a bad state?

Exactly!

Bye bye Christian LeBlanc, Jess Walton, and MTS.
