Does anyone here ever call Robin's hotline? She told a story a few weeks ago that I got a chuckle out of, SO Robin... on little Carmen's first day (at least I think she said it was his first day, or at least her first day working with him?), he wasn't quite off book and he kept flubbing his lines so they had to stop and restart a couple of times. When he was finally finished taping for the day, I'm assuming it was his mom who told him to go around and give everybody a hug and say goodbye. When he got to Robin, she said something to the effect of, "Unh-unh, I'm not giving you a hug. You've gotta work harder and be more prepared. The next time I see you I want you to be ready to work." Apparently, she looked around and everybody was all :o . Oh man, I died when I heard that. But I bet he'll NEVER forget that, that was probably his baptism by fire moment, a story he'll be telling in SOD someday.

LOL That's a pretty awesome story. I think that advice worked because Carmen LoPorto BRINGS IT in every scene he's in and I can see he has a bit of improvising skills too. I really hope they don't age Jack because I want to see this kid grow as Jack grows.

Jack's scene with Elijah this week was hilarious: "I'm going to call security and tell you tried to kiss me." *makes kissing sounds*

Yes! I thought that was hilarious, and a little risque actually, even for OLTL!

I get a kick out of the native South Jersey/Pennsylvania accent he, Starr, and Matthew have, well had in the case of the Aldersons. JPL has it too.

Jack tends to just fling sitcom-esque one-liners in most of his scenes. I'm curious as to how he might change when this new girl shows up.

I agree with ACEM about recasting some roles. I think Starr and Jessica both needed to be recast (although I can't really say Bree has been that much better for me in the role than Erin, although she is more believable as an adult woman). I think a lot depends on whether the actors or actresses still look young. For instance, I think most DAYS fans had no real problem accepting Christie Clark as she aged from young girl to woman because she didn't look like she was stuck around 13-15.

I think Eddie Alderson's been doing a great job in his storyline, and I think him playing the role as long as he has adds for some emotional connection which otherwise would not be there, as Bo and Nora are acting so cold.

I think turning Matthew into a bit of a (rhymes with) prick to his parents was the best thing that could have happened for EA, and Matthew for that matter, he has become 100% more interesting. Sure he was a sweet kid, but damn if he wasn't soap opera Sominex. One flash of fun was when he teased Starr about her braces (is it me or did she wear those for a REALLY short period of time? Maybe I'd stopped watching for a while...), but making him an essentially good kid with a chip on his shoulder is a good balance, he's not a "boring" nice guy nor is he some typical wannabe flashy/cool soap dude.

Personally, I buy the Aldersons as the ages they are supposed to be playing as of right now. I don't know how things will develop in the future looks/career-wise, I don't know if going away to college is something they hope to do either. I also accepted Erin Torpey just fine, and she has continued to grow more and more beautiful, when she came back as baby Megan when Viki went to heaven 2.0, she'd never looked more beautiful. EA may grow up to be more of a Jonathan Jackson than a Greg Vaughn, and it's up to the network or the EP if that's something they're cool with. I just feel that there are SO many subpar actors that get hired for these shows, adults and kids alike, but with kids it's more understandable and if you manage to find one who can deliver, stick with them until at least late teens.

Sort of speaking of which, I found the pairing of Destiny and David oddly amusing/endearing/annoying. I think I liked it for the most part, it was unlikely and a little surreal. And Destiny in that big floppy yellow hat was funny to me for some reason. It would be so bizarre and David would make plenty of jokes about the inappropriateness of the situation, and the Evans parents would kill David, but how funny if David and Destiny went on a little caper trying to find Matthew...

I like the kid playing Jack a lot. For a soap kid, he's incredibly reactive to TSJ, KDP, KA etc and back when these characters still had half-decent family scenes, the rapport between Jack and Starr was amazing, very realistically chaotic. He's always doing something in a scene on his own terms, not just waiting for a cue. He regularly upstages St. John. He's a treasure. Unless he turns fugly upon puberty, I don't want a recast.

I didn't hear the original RS story - poor kid! - but she has complimented him since, recently.

And the only reason they can be friends is because they'll never be pitted against each other for the same man. Rachel of course hates Todd. Though I could totally see them having some dirty crazy heat of the moment love making, perhaps Tea and Greg too. But yes, Rachel is too good and has too much going for her to be relegated to "the best friend", as long as Tea is as much of the supportive girlfriend as Rachel is.

The "torn between two brothers" thing is cool, but I'm concerned about the future of a character like Shaun. I just don't see him driving story as 1/2 of a front burner couple as things stand, he seems much more like a cool, reliable, supporting character presence on the show. But it would be awesome if they kind of turned him into a Trevor Dillon, I think Shaun would be great with a fun, neurotic love interest, like Natalie or Janet, something like Dwayne and Whitley on A Different World. I want him to stay, but I don't want him to be put in the position where his story falls flat and they end up dropping him. Know what I mean?

David and Destiny were adorable together. Their rescue of Matthew promises to be comedic. Poor Destiny is destined to get her heartbroken. I saw how Matthew was looking at Danielle.

I didn't like Rachel rekindling her friendship with Tea. It won't be good for Rachel.

well I saw Tea and Rachel's connection as mutually beneficial. It started off with Rachel unloading her problems to Tea and Tea being a sounding voice to give her advice and help make her feel better about her situation. Rachel desperatly needs a female to act against for this type of stuff and she cant keep going to her mother with all her issues. She's been pretty segreated with only dealing with her family and love life and reconnecting with Tea was an oppurunity to branch her out. I thought the scenes worked effectively and it wasnt simply about Rachel being thrown into Todd/Tea's story as a prop. If anyone is going to pull that card than the same could be said about Tea being thrown into Rachel/Greg's story as one

Shaun isnt a leading man. I dont see much potential in him and was initially surprised when they expanded his role. He really doesnt have much going with Rachel as I dont see the chemistry and she clearly doesnt want to be with him.

Yeah, I know, poor Destiny. How long do they intend to keep Matthew and company over in England? WTH is Destiny going to do, I REALLY don't want to see her sitting around talking about Matthew for the next few months. I've said this before, but I'm afriad this is going to be used as some opportunity to get rid of her for a while and maybe recast her, and I hope I'm totally off base. Feel free to spoil me. :P Of course she's got her brothers to deal with, but even that looks like it's coming to a resolution pretty soon.

The problem with reconnecting with Tea is that it's just going to be what is good for Tea. She has already screwed Rachel over once, and I don't see why she won't again. Tea is a fascinating character when they bother to write for her but she's never been a BFF type. To write them like Layla/Sarah is kind of odd.

I second the idea of Carlotta/Tea. Then perhaps Carlotta can snap and turn into Carmen Santos.

well she did do that with Carlota this week. Those scenes fell flat for me though. Maybe if PM was still in the role but the Tea/Carlota special relationship vibe has been lost with the recast. Wasnt feeling it and it felt odd seeing her in scenes with this stranger

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago that perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. Since we hardly know anything about Leslie's childhood background. In addition, Leslie said she grew up listening to The Articulettes….
    • There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.
    • ah thanks! do you know who the third one was in the blonde? the fifth one i know ive seen before in the brown wig but i forgot, and then ive never seen the psychic one before lol
    • I felt for Ted early on but as the story unfolded it has changed my opinion on him. To know he was cheating while his wife was struggling to give him a baby is a lot to deal with. Plus, this happened ages ago and still he's paying Leslie off and threatening her to leave town.  What really caused me to lose him in this episode was how even though he was busted, he still refused to take responsibility and come clean and the way he talked to Martin and Eva was terrible. To tell Smitty he better get Martin away from him when that is his SON who he used to cover up his affair? That is true dog behavior. Ted seems upset he got caught but I'm not seeing the remorse I would need to want Nicole to forgive him. I'm curious how I'll feel after Ted gets to talk to Nicole but I need him to fix it with the rest of the family as well.
    • I'm sorry. I well remember Jake doing Doris but I have no independent memory of the story around it.  Krystle with a K Lake, sure, both Tony the Tuna stories & NOT.  And, Jake also impersonated a woman named Bunny Eberhardt but he didn't know she was a woman so there was no drag. This weekend I re-watched Kevin & Mac, GH, and my strong impression is exactly what it was when I watched it in real time: They did not let them look very pretty. Of course, I think the best ever drag on GH was Alexis posing as the Q butler.  In a different use of drag at AW one Halloween, Jensen Buchanan went as Charlie Chaplin & Judi Evans went as, I think, a male gypsy.

    • I'm not sure who wanted them to dump REUNION & instead do a "Dallas-like daytime show" but it seems that it def came from NBC to AW through Rauch, so, yes, it absolutely could have been his (cough-another-stupid?) decision!!!! I've just begun the new Lisanti book so maybe I will find out. (I waited for the kindle version to come out.) I would apologize for being so critical & so sarcastic, too, but, well, I'm not actually sorry!  Silverman was NOT a friend to AW.  And, I believe the critique is on point & deserved! I wanted to explain why I think the timing is off for the 90 minute show to be a reaction to the GH Luke & Laura story & its hype. Because, for sure, networks & production companies did react to it! The first 90 minute show was Monday, March 5, 1979.  And, there was some unknown amount of time ahead of that with people arguing about it & then, planning it.  The Luke & Laura wedding was mid-November 1981.  They were on the run from Frank Smith & stayed overnight in Wyndham's Dept. Store early August 1980.
    • terrible at using forums and inserting photos, but jake in another world had a drag persona named doris, anyone know the episode or year? http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/ffad19.jpg
    • Yes, I am familiar with Fred Silverman. Agree, the 90 minute AW a very poor decision by Silverman. I think Silverman was behind the decision to go with Texas.
