I thought B&B was much more popular overseas than Y&R. Even then, being #1 in Canada for soaps didn't help AW when it was time to go.

Yes, B&B is # 1 worldwide.

Maria and Paul can fall off a building for all I care.

I thought vets had 26 week cycles, not 13 week cycles?

I was wondering how Nia Peeples had a 26 week cycle and someone like Braeden doesn't.

I will say that Bradley Bell or whoever is in charge there certainly seems to be better at working with Susan Flannery (who, with worse treatment, probably would have retired several times by now) than anyone at Y&R is with their vets.

If Eric Braeden goes, so will millions of Y&R viewers. Not just those who watch on CBS, but the viewers who watch on Global in Canada and the other stations worldwide that broadcast Y&R. He is probably the most recognized actor from Y&R in the mainstream media. I hope CBS/Sony realize the millions in potential revenue they stand to lose if Eric Braeden walks, and that's the last thing they need right now.

My guess is these shows look at DAYS and see that their ratings have actually been steady if not gone up since they got rid of Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn. I really don't think there would be an adverse effect on ratings either.

American viewers may not tune out a lot, but the international viewers will tune out by stop watching. Braden is recognize as the star of Y&R worldwide. Same goes for B&B's Susan Flannery (example).

Or AMC's Susan Lucci.

I really hope this Braeden situation is enough to get Maria and her band of hacks fired.

I really don't care about the budget issues, Maria and Company have too many useless characters and actors taking up screentime that they could easily let go to make money for important actors.

Eric Braeden leaving would be a HUGE blow, and hopefully enough to topple this incompetent writing and producing regime of hacks.

Honestly, I think whether one likes or dislikes Eric Braedan and/or Victor Newman is the lesser issue. Let's consider how the show could very well crumble in on itself with the loss of such a tent pole character who provides key character motivation for other important characters, hell, characters whose life purposes seem to be directly correlated to this man. Who is Jack, who is Ashley, who is Nikki, who is Nicholas, who cares about who is Victoria, and for damn sure, who the HELL is Adam without Victor Newman in the picture?? Major reevaluation time. And I'm afraid it won't end there, it'll kick a terrible domino effect into motion, and we are no longer blessed with a masterful storyteller like Bill Bell at the helm to reconfigure the show as he many years ago. I'm not so sure that soaps are well-equipped enough to handle such blows these days.

ETA: So are we all thinking that casting notice about the "maverick" was protocol (scare tactic!) re: Eric/Victor?

I don't think they will care that much about who is Jack or Nikki, as both characters are being phased out. Adam they probably think can replace Victor. Ashley can be written out again and won't be missed by most of the characters or the canvas. Nick is now about Sharon and Phyllis, he barely interacts with Victor. Victoria is a big cipher.

I think they have clung to Victor too long as it is and ruined the Newman family beyond repair. If I were them I'd take this opportunity to write them all out, except Nikki.

How can you have Y&R without Eric? Like him or not, he's the freaking star of the show.

As for Kish, like many of you, I can't see why Frons would want them on AMC. That is just laughable and wishful thinking.

He is, but he doesn't have to be. If the show wanted to find another star they could. I don't believe they are committed to doing that though.

And MAB/HS/SH lack the character development skills and basic writing talent to do so as well.

LML's take on Victor and Nikki is starting to look better and better after what MAB has does to them. And LML was a disaster.

SFK, Very well said! You pointed out exactly why this show needs "Victor". It appears that TUCKER may very well be a scare tactic in regards to EB's situation. I think that Alvin said something very important as well - that if this show were to rid itself of the dead weight, the real stars of the show wouldn't have to be in these (apparently) rough negotiations.

And MAB/HS/SH lack the character development skills and basic writing talent to do so as well.

LML's take on Victor and Nikki is starting to look better and better after what MAB has does to them. And LML was a disaster.

Sony and CBS are looking back at Day's firing's of John and Marlena,2!!!! Legacy characters gone and Days ratings are the ONLY soap ratings to increse it's ratings over last year. Sony is not worried about losing Victor. If Days can weather their storm. Y&R can too and let's not forget Y&R has already been through something like this with the Brooks and some other key players in the early to mid 80's. Days set the mold, the example for other soaps to follow.

Y&R without Eric Braeden will be like The Price is Right without Bob Barker. Look at what happened to TPiR when Bob Barker retired as host. Y&R will decline the same way.
