Jenna was a jewel thief. During the blackout, she made friends with Michelle, who she was trapped in an elevator with. Yadda yadda---Jenna needs to avoid deportation and knows her father has some connection to Spaulding. She enlists Henry's help. Henry realizes that her father had invented something that Spaulding made huge profits from, but he thinks Brandon Spaulding stole it, and left her father broke and imprisoned. And that Spaulding would owe her TONS of money. Henry lies to Jenna and tells her that he's her father (poor Vanessa bugs out on that news...). hoping he can give her the life she deserved without losing the company. It all backfires due to Roger (who's seeing Jenna) (long, long story), and he talks Jenna into suing Spaulding to get what she's owed. They end up winning, and Henry, Vanessa, A-M and Nick lose almost everything. Nick and A-M end up running the Springfield Journal and Vanessa goes to Lewis and starts poaching Spaulding clients.

Henry and Jenna bond all through this in spite of being on opposite sides. Jenna and Roger eventually lost Spaulding, but Henry treated Jenna like another daughter. I'm not exactly sure how Vanessa and Jenna bonded, but they did, and Vanessa was the only person in town who knew Jenna was pregnant with Buzz's child when she left town. Later, Jenna and Vanessa are pregnant around the same time.

I never quite bought their friendship, but *shrug*, that's probably because I generally didn't like Jenna.

Thanks, @P.J.!  Very helpful. That's interesting that Vanessa knows her baby is Buzz's. I'm curious to see where this goes and if Vanessa plays any part in this when she ultimately returns later in '97.

Always enjoy your reviews @alwaysAMC

Jenna's backstory has already been summed up, but I'll add that she was initially just meant to have a brief return. When Paul Rauch joined the show, he made the return permanent, due in part to his experience with her at OLTL.

I was not a fan of Jenna the first time around (I felt like Nadine was degraded for her), but Fiona was always a reliable performer and I warmed to her more in her return, even if most of the material isn't up to much.

I was never a huge Reva/Josh fan but Rauch was smart to make them the rooting couple and Annie the schemer rather than the formless nature of the Annie/Josh/Buzz/Reva quad. Those Cross Creek scenes worked well as Zimmer and Newman sold them for all they were worth.

Thanks :)  That's interesting. I noticed right away that she was listed in the ending credits on her first episode back, but I'm curious to see how long it takes before she ends up in the opening (because you know how obsessed I get with those things haha).

I got the sense that Rauch was like, ok, Reva has been back for 20 months now, why are we killing the Jeva fans. Within 2-3 weeks of Rauch being EP, Reva/Josh finally got physical, Annie became crazier than ever + Josh clearly is ready to dump her, Reva called it off with Buzz, and Alan is nowhere near their orbits now. He moved quickly on his vision, it seems.

Those Cross Creek scenes were SO good - well-acted and even better directing/camera work.

Sorry to disappoint you but you should know in advance, Rauch reduces the opening to just the lighthouse, and it's only a few seconds. Claimed it was to give fans a few extra minutes of the show

Question--has the episode of Hillary's death ever been post online?

Not to the best of my knowledge. That would certainly be a discovery.

Thank you. I've always wondered. I know her funeral episodes are up on ClassicGL's channel, but not the actual explosion episode.

This makes me sad... haha.

Reva also had a baby. Lizzie was pregnant again at the end of the show. Beth had a baby with Alan. Christina had a baby at the end of the show. Shayne had a child. There was some talk at the time about this and Mormonism. I didn't really care but I can see why people complained as so many soap women seem to be having babies whether there was much reason or not (the only one I think was a terrible idea was Beth).

I can't explain not recalling all of these babies. D'oh, sorry.

And, I don't remember who got a dig in about it but I really liked the big bulky white terry robes hiding that 3 lead actresses were all pregnant at the same time. ATWT Sheffer

This isn't the one where she opens the box but it's the episode immediately after:

Which opening?

And, prefab, forgot to say that I never rooted for Jeffrey EVER for any reason & my rationale was that I did not want Bradley Cole on my screen & that he raped Young Olivia & took away her innocence.

I think the original plan in 1989 was to have Roger/Sonni/Holly once she and Ed broke up... with Billy/Ross/Vanessa/Nadine as a quad.

However, once Michelle Forbes opted to quit the show in the fall of 1989.. Sonni quickly broke things off with Roger before leaving town for a new start... while Roger/Holly/Ross/Alexandra/Fletcher/Mindy became the new plan in 1990 and Billy/Nadine/Vanessa became the main focus.

1989 was the last time the show attempted to try Vanessa/Ross... other then in 1993 when Blake felt insecure over Ross/Vanessa's close bond.

I do tend to forget about Roger/Sonni, so Holly/Roger/Sonni could've definitely been a plan before Forbes left.

I'm less sure that Nadine was ever in a planned quad with Ross. From the little I've seen of her in the first half of '89, Nadine seems a little more savvy and blatantly a golddigger than she was with Billy. They seem to softly have rebooted her. She's gone when Vanessa arrives back town in July. She's probably gone a month, which seems a little strange since she'd only been in town six months.

I think it helped Ross and Vanessa that they were rarely if ever a proper couple onscreen. We could wonder what might have been (and yes they were a natural idea for a reunion by the mid '00s). One of those times that a backstory-heavy relationship works.

As much as I would've loved them to at least have a real chance, I do adore them as friends.

And in '08, there was the Max saga, only he died. The way the show struggled against the WASPy Vanessa not just bluntly saying "that baby is black!" is more restrained than I would usually give them credit for being.

Now, I would like to make a few requests.

#1 - Can we talk more about this idea of Reva  & Josh & toxicity? This to me is a new idea.

It's something about how Reva always initially has to lie to keep Josh's love. When she comes to town to break up Billy and Van---it's not any attack of conscience that prompts her to give Billy, who she never loved, a divorce,  it's Josh withholding his feelings that does it. It's about how she'd rather be in a loveless marriage with HB than just move on with her life after they broke up. Or allow Josh to believe she'd been raped than admit she'd had sex with and gotten pregnant by Billy. And much much later, it's how she's prepared to leave town still allowing them to believe she's dead because they've moved on. Or when she's got cancer, she'd rather break up with him than simply tell him her diagnosis.

They rarely bring out the best in each other. Together or apart, at least in my opinion.

That's how Billy and Nadine started interacting... because he was interested in trying again with Vanessa and he felt Ross a threat so he flirted with Nadine and she eventually agreed to help him keep Vanessa and Ross apart.  This was in the fall of 1989... but eventually the show decided to make Ross/Holly a thing... and the show decided to do a Vanessa/Billy/Nadine triangle.. but I'm sure when the show decided to go in that direction.

I do remember a scene where Ross and Nadine end up at a function at either the Spaulding mansion, or the country club... and Vanessa and Nadine meet.. and it was dislike at first sight.  I think it might have been before the 'soft reboot' of Nadine, or right after she came back from that brief absence.

Well, I'll jump in here on this PJ quote, but in a way this is to & about everyone who has posted at my request more about toxic Jeva. I'm not surprised I never saw this before 'cuz  like I said I honestly had so little interest in them, together at least, that I paid no heed. One interesting thing is now I see why so many people were resistant to the idea of Pastor Josh. This guy is a lying piece of shite & also possibly worse a manipulator. And, all for the sake of, OMG, Reva-Shayne-Lewis-Lewis-Spaulding-Lewis-Winslow-Cooper-Lewis-Lewis-O’Neill.  Personally I think the ending of the show left us to believe that Reva & Josh would marry again, so another Lewis would be added on the end. And, no, I was not in favor of their reuniting in the final scene. Plus if I never hear the words 'Always' or 'Bud' ever again it will be way too soon.
