Liz Keifer also made some comments about Paul Rauch and her time at OLTL. She made it clear he was a bit of a creep but I don't think he did anything to her based on what she said. In Michael Zaslow's book, he mentions Rauch's reputation for harassing women. Zimmer obviously would have known this, but perhaps didn't mind as that kind of stuff was overlooked. Erika Slezak also praised him.

As a side note, it's interesting how much information the Locher Room interviews provide us. I know not everyone is an Alan Locher fan, but they have been quite invaluable.

I just took a peak at the Guiding Light series finale out of curiosity since I’m kind of invested in the show now. Can someone explain why the final episode looks like it was filmed with a potato?

The last few years of the show were filmed with a very reduced budget. By that point they were filming in Peapack, New Jersey.

LMAO I figured. It reminded me of some really low budget shows we had here in Canada in the 2000s. Thank god we have access to the earlier episodes on here!

Rumor has it, it went back to her days on Another World. Allegedly, Rauch acted inappropriately, and P&G separated them, sending Maeve to GL. It is interesting to note, in one of those Locher room interviews, Maeve said she was the only actress who read for the role of Vanessa, and it was more for Marland to see how she read the lines than an audition.

I was also going to add that understanding Kim's personality through her book, and watching few interviews of Maeve, I have a feeling those two were total opposites or maybe didn't get along, hence why one liked Rauch and the other didn't. I'm now reading a new chapter in Kim's book and she finally mentions Maeve briefly, but completely spells her last name wrong: Kincaid!

LOL - that just tells me they probably weren't that close. Or she has a bad editor, but c'mon.

LOL - I did that myself a couple months ago and thought wow, times got tough. I'm reading Kim Zimmer's book right now and she talks about how awful the conditions were. Ditto on thank god we have access to the earlier good stuff.

I’ll def have to give that book a whirl at some point, maybe after I read Jeanne Coopers book because I’ve been wanting to check that out too.

Kinkead and Zimmer seemed to get along quite well when Zimmer won her first Emmy (and Kinkead was nominated but lost to Beth Maitland). You would think Zimmer would know how to spell her name. Jeez.

I’m up to November 22, 1996.  So much has happened so far this month!

Roger rescued Dinah from the silo and came out looking like a hero, typical Roger haha. Dinah and Hart actually believe he’s changed and things are good for now. Roger still knows about Vanessa being alive and he’s having Leo look into it.

Thankfully Rick and Ross found Blake and she’s having the babies at the cabin with the two of them.  She delivered one but the other can’t come out yet and needs to be surgically removed or delivered at the hospital. It’s coming down to possibly Blake or the smaller baby dying and Ross wants Blake to survive and Rick is torn because it could be his son. Thankfully she ended up having the second baby with no issues and Rick looks on as the family of 4 are happy and holding each other. I’m so sad for Rick here.  And they name them Kevin Ross and Jason Fredrick haha. Such 90s names, but the fact she threw in both fathers’ names while Ross still doesn’t know is so bad haha. A few days later, Ross notices the twins don’t look alike and questions why to Blake, but she and Rick come up with a good excuse.

Vanessa is back Nov 8, with a nun in the church - yay!  She’s also back Nov 12-13, talking to Zachary about Matt (who is continuing to build a house on that island he bought for the two of them). How does Zachary just show up like this, I guess he’s really supernatural ugh. Even she’s starting to figure out he’s something beyond human, but he denies it. I really love seeing Vanessa randomly each month, that would have made me really happy viewing in real time back in the day.  Now Matt found a letter Vanessa started writing to him at Zachary’s lighthouse, and he’s becoming very suspicious of him and his connection to her.

Josh seems totally over Annie now and is forcing some kind of relationship. He hasn’t been that supportive nor a good husband, which I understand has to be a hard position to be in, but this is when you really support your spouse. Reva of course is in the way because he clearly loves her instead but won’t admit it. I also still really dislike the carousel house, it’s weird and creepy. That is not a house, not a living room nor a good foyer for a home. Now Annie seems to be doing good and coping with Reva without a problem, however now she wants a baby with Josh to connect them forever. She’s cutting holes in her diaphragm, wearing sexy pushup bras and asking for sex all the time haha!  Unfortunately, Reva’s mother Sarah is now ill in Italy and everyone is scrambling to get there to help her…

Alan randomly became paralyzed from effects of his accident (not really sure which one, must be long ago?). This came out of nowhere and Alan is so unlikable to me that I don’t care if he gets better (I really wish I liked him, because I like the idea of his character).

Bill/Michelle/Dahlia have a joint birthday party at the Towers and Rick/Abby share their first kiss (yay!). Dahlia continues to sing all over Springfield. She’s good, but not sure the point/where they plan to go with this. It was nice to see her mom Tina surprise her by showing up to the party. Griffin was able to get her out of prison because she was an exemplary inmate, but she’s now going to live at a halfway house. Btw, the Towers set is sorely underused in 1996. It’s my favorite set and I loved seeing it throughout 1995.

Rick was a proper gentleman and took Abby back to Goshen to visit her parents, who of course were upset and disowning of her. Rick really stood up for her and forced them to listen to how much she’s grown and excelled. I really loved Rick here, he’s such a sweet man most of the time. As Abby’s parents continue to reject her as their daughter, this makes Rick realize he can’t reject his own son and just told Blake he needs to be a father now…

Speaking of sets, there are a bunch of new sets popping up this month! They have a bowling alley, Buzz has a new bedroom, the Spaulding Mansion has a new bedroom, the hospital room set is redesigned for Blake, the Hart farm has new sets, a new hotel room set, and Abby now has an apartment/home.

I never doubted that Blake really loved Ross, but she sure did love living on the edge. 😂

I hope you get around to seeing the 80s version of Alan, particularly his dealings with Roger back in the day. It's not that Alan was a good guy back then, but he was far more complex and not a cartoon villain, and Bernau's portrayal was iconic, just like Zaslow's. It was amazing to watch the two of them go against each other.

Ron Raines' version of Alan was not great. You have to partly blame the writing for the character, but Raines IMO wasn't up to the task. Never could understand how he lasted that long in the role.

I remember Mick also was involved in the Blake video tape story.. trying to blackmail her and that her uncle Ken beat Mick up while Meta figured out what was going on and was trying to get Blake to tell Ross about her sleeping with Ben.

The main rumor I had heard was that Carmen's henchman Dietz was going to be the one that actually killed Mick after he witnessed Drew and Michelle both knocking him out.. and finished the job.  Another rumor would have been that Holly would have been involved with investigating what happened to Mick and would be tied to this henchman Dietz.

Sadly.. the rumors sounded better than what actually showed up on screen.

That was actually an interesting time with Meta being involved..the former Bauer "bad girl" trying to help and ring the beads of the town screw up. I wonder if MS illness derailed more involvement but it was a perfect way to work her in without having to listen to Chele whine about some dumb young guy she wanted to loose her virginity to that week.

The rumors do sound good and might have been what  E & B wanted to do but Rauchie or someone stopped them. He was all for a dumbed down version of GL so I am sure he would have thought no one remembered Mick's murder after a few months, and you know..we need to work on more story for Reva...

t's very funny watching this Mindy montage as you'd think she was on the Bad Girls Club.

The opening is indicative of what GL was becoming..before the opening showed vets and families along with "passion" but was more romantic. This was just everyone pushing and pulling each other and explosions, and of course..FauxEd (who was a very good looking guy, too bad he just sucked the life out of every scene he was in.)

I'd forgotten about this. I suppose Blake was meant to have done this back when she wanted to hurt Philip back after Beth returned from the dead? It could have been some good drama given that Blake was pregnant with his best friend's son and Amanda also would have been fuming, but it does feel like a bit much with all the other story she had going on.

For once McTavish idea (though I am sure not her execution) was good. I think that the baby thing she had (some problem with Blake's pregnancy) would have been an excuse to have her loose one of the baby's (the two daddies thing was so gross) and for the one to survive to be Rick's adding more tenseness to the situation. Ross declaring he would  do anything to protect his  surviving son, Rick not knowing if it was his kid who survived, and Annie blackmailing, with Phillip out for blood would have had Blake on edge for months..

I think they got along fine, but were totally different. Maeve was a "working actress" and was not tied up in being a star.  Kimmer had an ego and a work ethic and insatiable need for attention to go along with it (I always wonder how families deal with an individual like that) and Maeve, just wanted to do good work and writer her poetry.  I think Maeve may have resented that with the arrival of Reva and Alex she lost a lot of story, but I don't think she held it against the actresses.  Regarding Rauch, she was going to sue for sexual harrassement, PG then made the move of Maeve to GL. I think she had an agreement to come back to GL in 97 or neither of them would have probably agreed to it. Kimmer loved Rauch cause he kissed her ass and made her the end all of GL, and well, its not like he was going to sexually harrass ES on OLTL, even if she was not a woman who would have burned his a** on that!

Phew ok good, I'm glad there wasn't beef between Zimmer and Maeve. But still irks me that she couldn't even spell her last name correctly in her book - I mean c'mon! 😂

When Maeve was on AW, she was not a star. Angie was an expendable character, while ES and KZ were the de facto stars of their respective shows. Maeve wasn't a diva or a star, but she was a popular entity on GL, so the power dynamic had changed. That may have been another reason she agreed to return.

Agreed, but it just seems that there was an understanding or contract that Maeve would return after her break (I think it was a hip replacement???) You could tell that Rauch was not invested in Van or her pairing even before the Mattessas went wacko over the "no bedroom sex scene."

Also she was older and he was older, so there was that element.
