AM initially hired Lucy at Spaulding when they were first dating and she ended up staying on as Alex’s assistant when AM left Spaulding briefly when he blew a bunch of bridges/Alex was obsessed with anointing Nick. Alex kept Lucy on initially to spy on AM but it didn’t really go anywhere. AM found out Alan was out of prison and there was a period pre-Tangie where AM literally was roaming the beach looking like a hobo for weeks when he thought Alan was trying to kill him. Lucy pretty much dropped off the canvas at this point without being seen much at Spaulding until she was left in an emergency and called in AM to help once Nick had peaced out, leading to AM and Lucy agreeing to be strictly business but after their first run of her mooning over him he started to want her when she put up boundaries/started dating Brent.

Thank you!!

He shows up In 1995 to have AM get Lucy out of danger at Marian’s (without telling AM the full story so really only keeps Lucy safe a week haha) and visits Nick/Susan in the hospital after Susan was attacked by Brent/Marian.

You're right! I remember the Santa Claus that year too... I didn't realize he had a name "Nick" haha.

That's very cute :) I liked them so much, as you know.

So did you not remember much, or like much of the Brent/Marian saga? I know it was a departure from Guiding Light a bit haha, but it was so captivating to me.

Yes, near New Year's 1993, Alan-Michael asked her what her resolution was and she told him that her resolution was to marry him. This freaked him out a little and led to him sort of ghosting her on NYE, but by the time it hit midnight they had made up and rang in the new year by making out.

@alwaysAMC Like you, I got drawn into the show in 1995 (except in real time). I enjoyed the Lucy/AM story and when it was over I stumbled across someone who was selling edits focused on their storyline from 1993 through to Rick Heart's departure (back in the days when you'd get the edits on VHS). I think you'll enjoy the first go-round of their relationship in 93-94. There's some cute, romantic comedy type stuff in there.

We started watching at basically the exact same time-I was in high school and got drawn into Lucy/Alan Michael after the scene on his yacht over dinner where they hash things out and AM claims he never plans to marry again so she decides to truly move on with Brent.

What’s funny is I first went back to watch Lucy/Alan Michael clips out of nostalgia and saw their entire history the first time, but I got into the vault and started watching at Rick Hearst’s debut as a starting point and filling in the gaps of AM’s backstory. It’s jarring because I’m up to the point where AM in late 1991 is sleeping with random women and Blake here and there, and it’s pretty jarring because it’s really the only point I’ve watched where he’s depicted as a playboy or even particularly sexually driven. He has quite the onscreen dry spell since he dated Lucy months without sleeping with her because she wasn’t ready, then Alan stepped into try to win Tangie from AM while AM was literally out buying condoms for their first time so that ends that.

I love having fellow Lucy/A-M fans here! :) Since the Vault doesn't have every episode from 1989-1990, I may just start with A-M's first episode too, like you... good idea.

Gosh I miss that yacht and the docks set that was so prevalent in 1995/1996.

I started when Rick Heart took over as AM in June 1990 (AM was rescued from kidnappers by Roger and literally emerged as a new man haha) not AM’s debut which is several years earlier. It’s also about a week from when Reva drives off the bridge so it’s a decent spot to pick up.

Oh shoot that's what I meant - Ric Hearst's debut as A-M :) I've seen a few clips of the prior A-M when he was with Harley. I didn't mind him, but Ric is my A-M for sure. The final recast in 1996 before Lucy/A-M left town just didn't work for me.

So other friends here have told me to start in late 1989 (I think), leading up to Roger's return. Are the 1990 episodes all in the Vault? I just can't stand to miss episodes haha, I get FOMO missing things. I'd want to start at a spot where every episode is available, and then when I'm done there, I'll just have to settle for one-off episodes here and there to piece things together I think.

I remember the broad strokes of history, but that era is not one I really care to revisit. I actually liked Lucy, but for me, GL is floundering at this point with unrecognizable recasts like Poser and Raines, poor casting decisions like Marcy Walker and later Hunt Block, and some poor plotting (one only needs look at the disillusionment of Nola's return to feel alienation from GL's glory years.)

What I mainly remember of the Brent saga (ironically) is that they killed Cutter, who I liked. I don't know if I had actually seen Psycho at that point (TCM had just started up) to connect to the obvious references to it, but I'm not overly fond of slasher stories.

I tried rewatching some of the Michael Dietz as AM clips and he is so bad. It was a nearly impossible recast but he was so actively bad. They should’ve just had AM swept to sea on the honeymoon yacht trip If they weren’t going to send Lucy/AM off into the sunset. I would’ve rather had the dramatic shakeup of AM believed to be dead than round whatever of internal Spaulding family drama. I was amused at Phillip’s pouting over the tables briefly being turned with AM getting Alan’s praise when AM/Lucy were lost at sea-AM getting reverence from being believed dead would’ve made the A Spaulding stuff mildly more interesting.

There’s a lot of 1990 and 1991 missing unfortunately in the vault-especially first half of 1991.

I totally get that... especially the note about Nola's return. Not knowing or seeing a ton of Nola outside of clips and reading y'alls thoughts, even I thought Nola and fans deserved better out of that return (along with Quint's return). The fact that she just randomly disappeared from the show without a single acknowledgment is still mind boggling to me.

I liked Cutter too, even though when I was watching, they didn't seem to know what to do with him. They teased a Mindy pairing with him before she left, and even had Cutter kiss Lucy before she met Brent. What I loved about his death (if he had to die), was the M-A-R mystery, where he was writing the name of his killer before he died... and everyone assumed it was Marcus since Roger framed him for stealing money from the Towers, and he ran by Cutter's body at the time. I thought that was a fun way to expand and merge some stories to make a bigger umbrella story.

I just have to imagine that in 1995, the Brent/Marian story had to be impactful/memorable either because people were intrigued and loved it... or were totally turned off by it.

Specifically, in 1990, most of January and September are missing in the vault. As I recall, they were not up on youtube either.

Good idea, even though so sad if A-M died on his honeymoon, right after that expensive Universal Studios wedding (LOL). I wonder if they ever tried to woo Hearst back to GL at some point.

I guess if they let A-M die in that yacht trip, we never would have had Zachary, which was dumb. I like Zachary, if he were a human, but the supernatural angel thing was a stretch. You know, I always thought of the clone storyline as being the first wild DAYS-esque storyline that GL ventured into, but Zachary might actually be the accurate choice.

I figure you have AM “die” getting swept out to sea-maybe leave Lucy pregnant. It’s sad but beats letting all the buildup fizzle with a terrible recast IMO. I’m sure AM would’ve turned up on San Cristobal eventually haha

If GL had gone that route with A-M, I would've had him turn up eventually in, of all places, San Rios, lol.

So many fictitious island nations to choose from. Could do an ATWT crossover and he turns up in Montega.
