While the mentioning of beloved classic soaps was nice, they clearly did not do actual research. The first error they made was announcing that As the World Turns ran for 72 years. Um, nope, that was The Guiding Light.

Also, they were wrong about the creation of the soap genre. The first one was neither TGL nor ATWT. Clara, Lu and Em, and Irna Phillip's Painted Dreams predated them (debuting in 1930).

This is as careless as referring to Mary Stuart as Mary Stewart on screen, when the actress died.

Yikes!

uploaded Feb. 1, 2025 to the official Procter & Gamble youtube channel

He has an "artifact" from the P&G archive?  a piece of the GL set from when Reva and Josh got married.

There are so many errors out there.

Schemering pg. 334 chronology of US TV serials:

These Are My Children NBC 1949

A Woman to Remember DuMont 1949

The O'Neills DuMont 1949-50

One Man's Family NBC 1949-55

Hawkins Falls NBC 1950-55

The First Hundred Years CBS 1950-52

Miss Susan NBC 1951

etc.

Oh God, not to go back to this again but I forgot about Harley's endlessly under construction house! For some reason I thought you were talking about another Peapack 'set'. What a world.

I have never seen Guiding Light, I just posted the video on this GL thread because it's interesting.
He specifies in the video that this is a piece of the mantel -- related to their wedding, "they had carved their names always forever".  Hopefully what he said is enough to go on for those familiar with the storylines.

I just think it's interesting that P&G had that "artifact" as he called it, in some sort of archive or storage or something.

Ha...and Wheeler tried to convince us this was to reflect on the "unfinished" aspect of Gus and Harley's relationship...(and they were trying to sell us on them being a supercouple.)  Someone upthread mentioned the junk in the backyard, that was Harley's house....I kept thinking DCFS was going to come and take those kids...I was watching the show one night and my partner asked what the hell I was watching, I told him, and he said, "Looks like a bunch of white trash hillbillies running around."  I could not argue.

    • I thought Dante was going to put hands on Gio
    • If Jordan never appeared again, I would absolutely not notice or miss her.  So, while Brook Kerr has her flaws, she at least appears to have a pulse and a personality as Portia.
    • That's because India, or the India MKA ended up playing, was created due to the fact that both she and Kristi Farrell were liked by TPTB, but the part they both read for didn't exactly fit either one of them so the show created two brand new characters for both actresses to play (India and Roxie) and opted not to cast the character they were intending to cast (A cousin of Beth's). I think that's why the show seemed to struggle at first with how to write both India and Roxie in their first months on the show because the characters weren't ever intended to exist.  And yes.. Grant A had a great body... but I didn't find him hot when he was playing Phillip.. only when he was playing Alec on AMC which baffles me since it was the same actor in both parts LOL
    • I shared this on Twitter and good grief the comments. Steffy fans can be such vile real-life human beings over a fictional character lol.
    • I remember Michael Logan interviewed L.A. actors/production staff about the movie. Susan Seaforth Hayes said she was dying to know Susan Lucci's reaction.
    • Thanks @Franko  @slick jones You may be interested in the Elisabeth Shue mention. I have to laugh that they apparently didn't even know Teri Hatcher was on Capitol. I have scans somewhere of SPW talking with soap actors about Soapdish. Some, like Mary Stuart, were not happy. I never had a lot of interest in the movie myself.
    • I never had much of a problem with Brandon Claybon's performance as Martin. He has gotten much better though. While I enjoy his confrontational scenes, I must say his lighter, and carefree scenes from Thursday's episode are the ones that stood out most in the last 3 days (to me).   I agree with all of this!
    • I know that Secret Storm had moved back to the 4/3 PM timeslot in the final months on air, so it's possible that they were trying to employ new techniques/elements to lure the teen demographic.   If that episode was around November/December 1973, I do wonder if the owners (AHS) were still trying to shop the show to other networks still.. or if they had accepted that the show was going to officially go off the air in Feb 1974 at the time of this episode airing.
    • Jordan should have been killed or written out a decade ago.
