Question: Was Ed's house [on this episode above] the same house we'd see in later years of the show? Or did he move into his mother's house after her death? This always boggled my mind. And if Ed's house was the official Bauer home in later years, why did they never make reference [like in the episode above] that Alan was their next door neighbor?

That was always Ed's house. When Mo and Ed broke up when he was mooning over Holly she said something like.."This was never my house, it was always the house Ed lived in with his WIVES." which is weird as that kitchen later never lost its association with Mo.

Ed moved into the house on the hill, by the Spauldings and the Lakeland Country Club, while married to Rita. Before that, he lived in much less posh surroundings. Bert only moved into the house years later when she was in the wheelchair, so it wasn't ever really Bert's home...

That's exactly how I felt about Kreizman's writing. There were some good ideas. Even brilliant ones that could have turned the ship around, but absolutely zilch in the way of execution. Some of it wasn't their fault (Laura Wright leaving) and some of it was (Not securing Peter Simon BEFORE writing a story arc on Roger's death and then being gobsmacked when he turned them down and then writing a really poor tribute to Zaz).

Talking about Laura Wright in the later years of GL, I've always wondered how much better the Reva/Cassie/Josh triangle would have been with her in the role. I never really liked Cassie, but LW was the actor with the history and the rapport with Reva. NF was not only a different character, but lacked any of the context that would have made the story work.

To me, the problem lay with the casting of NF, who seemed "nice" enough, but who also could be bland and forgettable. Cassie was just too important to the show at that point to be recast with someone whose prior claim to fame was an appearance in an Olive Garden commercial.

I'm watching an episode from June 1984. Very odd to see old characters I didn't realize overlapped with what became more my GL (Phillip Beth etc). Seems clear something was in the works with mike Bauer and Alexandra. So what really happened with mike and hope? Were the actors fired or did the quit? I can't really believe Pam long wanted mike off because clearly something is being set up with mike and Alex it seems - and my understanding is Beverlee McKinsey coming on was a casting coup so odd don Stewart would have been angry about a pairing. So what's the real story on what happened with the Bauers?

    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.

    • Lol.  I love that this board still allows misinformation from a bad source.
    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
    • I totally didn’t pick up on that. Just perfect! I don’t get the Maurice Johnson hate around here at all. He didn’t take me out of the scenes at all. I understood everything he was portraying. It was great. I do wonder if there will be a personality shift with the new actor, whom I’m still not excited about. Exactly. Right? I’m in the exact same boat as you. Agree with most of this except I never found anything off with Ted, didn’t suspect a thing. I just watched yesterday’s episode and it was one of the best soap episodes I’ve seen in a very long time. I was enthralled the entire time. Just fantastic.
