Y&R: Potpourri Thread

I like Amber, just not most of her stories (although they're better than her last few years on B&B ) . I think another reason the spoiler upsets me is that I liked the complex Deacon/Amber relationship on B&B and although one can easily argue this may be in character for Deacon, I hate to see what they had boiled down to this. It reminds me more of something Lowder's Rick would do.

Nail on the head! I loved the Deacon-Amber relationship on B&B as well. Deacon was a schemer and a jerk but dude NEVER

And the reason Amber & Deacon worked on B&B is that they were both outsiders dazzled by the Forrester wealth and glamor. They struggled with wanting a bigger piece of the pie (which included Deacon marrying Bridget and Amber marrying Rick) but they also understood each other and were deeply attracted to each other, too. I think theirs was the only SL involving Amber that I ever liked.

LOL, yes. I am a Deacon fan. Even though Bradley Bell is a hack, I do think Deacon is better suited to B&B than he is Y&R. For a start, he is connected to so many more people on that canvas. Rick, Bridget, BROOKE, Jackie. Even Whip and he had a weird love-hate bromance.

I liked Amber/Deacon, and Amber/CJ (I miss CJ), and Amber's last story with Becky. Becky shouldn't have been killed off. You're right about why Amber/Deacon worked. I liked most of Deacon's stories. I thought he was a good fit for B&B.

One of the reasons I said this may be out of character is

, but what an unfortunate writing choice. Why they gave this story to Hogan, who clearly knows nothing about the characters, baffles me. It's such a horrible way to do a crossover.

I was just remembering other repeat Hogan stories, and one was when he had people shoot corpses at funerals on ATWT and DAYS. That has to be on the way for Y&R, doesn't it? I assume Heather or Victoria will do this when Adam dies (speculating). I'm surprised they didn't have Jill pump Marge's coffin full of lead.

I totally agree on your Amber/Deacon interpretation. It is the outsiders (add Sally and Sheila) who interested me in B&B. While I am a cross-over fan, I feel the Amber cross-over piece has been too subtle (she should have connected more with Lauren, and they should have played her backstory). And now, if they unearth the characters in this slimy fashion, why would Brad Bell allow this? When Sheila initially crossed over to B&B, there were very specific rules in the deal. And when Amber came over to Y&R, there were also very specific rules (e.g., can't kill her). There should be rules about this kind of defamation.

I don't want these characters back on B&B. Not now. Not with the global ruination and neglect that happens on that show. Now this is all just making me globally angry at the Bells....

Shoot corpses? Really? That happened? PLEEEEEEEASE not on Y&R. I could really see this Aucker sh!t going in that direction.

You mean the same thing isn't happening on Y&R? And it's even worse on Y&R, because Y&R has always been an ensemble, it's never just been about the "main four" or whatever. The characters motivations on Y&R make as much sense currently as those on B&B, IMO. Characters are currently being ruined to suit some inane plot, need I mention the Quad or Scobbies again?

I posted this in the other thread - but it probably really belongs here:

I have to say this, since someone else brought it up.

And I preface it by saying I am a Sheffer fan - I don't think he's perfect, by any means. And I fully admit he's had some HUGE clunkers in his daytime career. But overall, I have enjoyed a lot of his stuff.

But this... THIS... really bothers me. Not because of the story. I was one of the rare few who wasn't as offended by

as others were. BUT - that doesn't mean I didn't see how it affected the rest of the DOOL online community. So this just shows me that TPTB really don't learn from their mistakes, and that's why it annoys me.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, best possible scenario - this story idea is ALL Maria's and not Hogan's at all, and it's all a big coincidence that it also happened under Hogan's watch at another show. EVEN THEN - even in that best possible circumstance, why wouldn't Sheffer chime in and say something like "Word of caution - I did something similar and it really blew up in my face. Just sayin'..."

It really disturbs me - not because I'm necessarily against the storyline specifically, but because I'm against the symbolism behind it - that says to me nobody learns from the mistakes of the past. I can almost always give a pass when a writer ends up telling a storyline that didn't work out as well as they originally hoped - but then to do it again KNOWING it didn't work the first time? That's just inconsiderate.

I guess it depends on how they want to sell the story.

Either way, I think it's a disappointing way to introduce a character who had been very complex on B&B and was a part of some of their few decent stories over the past decade.

I'm being oblique here...no spoilers...but still the spoiler-phobes should be forewarned about reading this in case they get unwanted clues...

For me, here is an ideal Indecent Proposal storyline:

- guy says "sleep with me, and I'll <do whatever desired consequence>

- girl is troubled

- girl finally agrees

- guy does consequence

- guy wakes up and realizes that his "victim" has pulled a Mari Jo Mason on him...he just slept with a whore in the dark and didn't know it.

NOW, who's been used and snookered?

What emerges out of this is a match of equals. Two wily individuals who both have a certain attraction to one another and recognize a certain larcenous compadre nature. (Only problem with that is that this is really the Jeffrey-Gloria dynamic, which I loathe).

From that perspective, as equals, if a true relationship happens I'm cool. Because in making his Indecent Proposal, the guy has shown he has an attraction to the girl. If the girl, after the dust settles, chooses to act on it...all is consensual and cool.

That said, if I were any of the players in this, I'd be very worried:

Kanan - do you want to be playing this kind of slime?

Frantz - do you want your character weakened and victimized thus?

Graziadei - you re-upped your contract for this? To be the wounded boyfriend in a story with the bad boy? What a way to lose your character's mojo altogether, and take yourself more fully down the path to sanctimonious and boring "hero".

Speculation, not spoiler.

Over at usenet, some are speculating that Adam is going to set Heather up for a crime (apparently he's got a knife with her fingerprints on it?).

If this is true, I kind of love it. If Heather gets suspicious, he can have her put away. And, seeing Heather wrongfully prosecuted for something...well, that is a delicious irony I'd love to see.
