I would like to propose to you in honor of your post! I've often likened Chloe to a modern fashion-inspired version of Nina and one of my favorite scenes last month was Chloe talking to Nina at the barbecue.

But how does a show, especially a show like Y&R, solve the diversity problem without making them seem like walking stereotypes, but at the same time, not essentially "whitewashing" or segregating them?

It's easy to say, "Why not view them as characters instead of African-American characters," when a large portion of the audience hates that PC bullshit when people forget about race. They don't view Lily as a black character because of Christel Khalil's diction and attitude, but also the fact that she has yet to be paired with another black character. But Lily is, as far as I'm concerned, "fully integrated," even if I don't personally feel she represents the Winters family.

But at the same time, I don't want to be preached to either with characters seeing campy crap like "N***** GET LOST" spraypainted on the walls of a house for sale.

Race issues would be disastrous in the hands of this writing regime, who are clearly scared of or simply not interested in writing for African-Americans.

Sarah Buxton for Phyllis!

LOL  I love Sarah Buxton. She's not on Michelle Stafford's level but I have a real core of affection for her.

OMG, I am watching yesterday's Y&R right now and -- apart from breaking out in HIVES over how bored and disinterested Christel Khalil's delivery is ("Like, we totally can't have kids, Cane") -- I am getting GOOSEBUMPS from seeing Stacy Haiduk and Doug Davidson in their scenes together. OK, I know it was only a dream but damn. I don't care about Mary Jane trying to entrap Jack as much as Paul and Patty's cat-and-mouse game.

My problem with Lily is not her or the character, but that she's the only type of black person they'll branch off and integrate. Someone more urban like Devon or Tyra is segregated into their own world and Neil is only featured as a Yes man. Lily would be great in a sea of diversity, but as the sole lead black character it strikes me as a bit prejudice.

But that's exactly what I mean.

Do you want more black characters like Lily on Y&R or do you want more urban characters? What kind of stories do you want these characters in? More interracial romances, more supporting stories, more lead stories? Do you want to see Devon and Tyra together in a relationship?

I hate asking these questions like Sylph, but I truly want to know.

I'd rather see the Winters written out with maybe Neil there as a supporting figure or used in a triangle or romance with Victoria or Nina.

    • @soapfan770 Thanks for the Sheri Anderson interview. So she admits to being influenced by Wall Street, but did she really think that 25 years later (going by real time) the audience wouldn't notice the dust off of The Sound of Music?

    • Thanks @soapfan770 . Sheri seems to have a much different take on Emma's husband than I remember the show having.
    • Lucky said he’s gonna travel this summer with Aidan. It was a quick line. Willow looks dumber by the day somehow.
    • Well, I do love a good soap himbo who can wear some pants...and very much blue jeans.

But yeah, I can see it. I saw it more with Hayley though.
    • Ewww....I love MKA, but GL wasted her returns. I do think she sleeps with Ross, or gets darn close.   So...against my better judgment, I slid into '86 to find Vanessa confessing to Henry about being pregnant...and it's NOT William Roerick, DAMN IT. It's some damn temp Henry. But then it gets weirder because I'm listening in German, and it's the same voice fooling me.
    • I hope the writers understand how pathetic and stupid Willow looks in order to continue this madness with Drew. Willow has become a laughingstock. Lucky didn't say goodbye to Aidan? Pathetic!!! Maybe then she can buy clothes that fit her. The blouse she had on today was three sizes too big.
    • I really enjoyed the first half of season 9. It was dark but Emma, Angela, Lance and Richard were front and center.  Pilar and Frank were finally interesting.  Charley, Michael and Genele came in and caused a lot of drama.  It was even sexier. I also liked the new into theme music. Then the second half of the season went to hell.
    • Something that I love about Dani is that despite her issues with Bill, she's always encouraged her daughters to have a relationship with him. I also believe that she does have a great amount of love for him which is why she is so hurt that he's sick. I've loved them including her in his recovery. It feels real and their chemistry is just insane so any chance for more of it is welcomed. That would be the perfect karma. Kat needs to learn boundaries and not be so impulsive, but I still feel like the Duprees are going to clear Leslie. How? I don't know, but that's what I think is going to happen. I feel like she'll get some kind of blackmail over them which will cause them to clear the slate. Of course the show never goes where you expect so I'm sure they'll do something different but I'm definitely curious how she will manage this.
