Below is the complete November 25, 1980 episode of Another World in which Mac learns that Mitch is the father of Rachel's baby. This is the cleanest, most pristine copy of the episode that I have ever seen. Outstanding performances by all those involved, especially Douglass Watson who won an Emmy for his performance of Mac.

Yes, thank you. Doug Watson was fantastic, but boy, had this show wandered far afield from Harding Lemay's vision for the show. The trial was pure melodrama, redeemed only by the performances, and everything else on the show at this point was dull as dishwater. Russ and Tracy? Snooze! Jerry and Larry? Snooze! Miranda and her clan? Snooze!

Was Miranda the writers' way of replacing Iris as Bay City's resident troublemaker since Iris had moved to Houston at this point? I did not start watching AW regularly until 1983, and I have only seen bits and pieces of Miranda from YouTube episodes. It seems that she did not last long on the show.

Yes, Miranda was the show's first attempt at replacing Iris. It didn't work -- mostly because Miranda and her clan were introduced as an entirely new family. I've always thought it would have been more successful, if Miranda had been Mac's widowed sister-in-law. Then her move to Bay City would have made more sense, and her family members would have been Corys -- perhaps feeling superior to Rachel (as Iris did) and causing more direct conflict in the Cory family.

I've always felt Judith McConnell to be one of daytime's most underrated actresses - and felt it was such a shame that she never got another great soap role after her signature role as SB's Sophia Capwell. She's still acting today, though, and most everyone will recognize her as the lady getting the pedicure in that Walgreen's commercial.

Poor Rachel. She wasn't in the slammer for a good few hours and the vultures, Cecile and Miranda, were swarming around her family.

Ada broke my heart this episode. It had to be hard for her to watch Rachel be hauled off to prison. Constance Ford's performance broke my heart. It's subtle, heart-wrenching performances that deserves EMMYS. I don't know how she and Vicki Wyndham never landed one. But they are in a class of greats that were never rewarded one either.

I did find myself becoming pissed with Mac. I can't wait until later episodes are uploaded so I can see Ada chew into Mac. You could see her wanting to burst at the seams and rip Mac a new one over his treatment towards Rachel.

Susan Keith's Cecile is just endearing to me. I'm loving how she's slowly starting to cause rifts throughout Bay City and only a few are catching on. She's working hard to place her hooks into the Cory clan. I just wish we had a social climbing minx like that on soaps nowadays. Instead, they are brash and obvious from the start. Hilary on Y&R had potential like this but it was quickly squandered.

YES! YES! YES! Could not agree with you more about Ford and Wyndham.

In the next few weeks, a lot of things happen with the Rachel in jail storyline. Ruby will tell Rachel about Sue and Danny finding a man in their van after pulling some robberies in the Cory neighborhood- the man is Mitch. Rachel will give birth to Matthew the week before Christmas. Mac puts two and two together with the Sue and Danny story and starts to investigate whether Mitch is alive. Charlie will die in his sleep leaving Ada a widow again. Rachel will break out of prison to discover Mitch is alive.

Making her a part of the extended Cory family is a good idea- wonder why TPTB never thought of that...

On the classic NBC sitcom, Sanford and Son, Fred (Redd Foxx) follows Lamont (Demond Wilson) and Rollo (Nathaniel Taylor) to a studio to get a part in a movie, not knowing that it is a pornographic movie. At the 6:40 mark, Fred enters the producer's office and there is a picture of Alice Frame (Jacqueline Courtney) and Eliot Carrington (James Douglas) directly over Fred's shoulder. The publicity department at NBC must have given the show the photos. This episode also contains one of Aunt Esther's (Lawanda Page) first appearances on the show. At the 14:45 mark begins a hilarious exchange between Fred and Aunt Esther in the jail. There is no way a writer scripted all the one-liners in this scene. Rather, it relies on the comic genius of Foxx and Page and the chemistry they had together.

Here is yet another NBC sitcom referring to AW. Natalie thinks she spots "Rachel" from AW at a fancy NYC restaurant and follows her into the ladies' room. It turns out that this woman is a civilian and not an actress, but her life story is even more of a soap opera than AW!! LOL

Poor Russ. I felt so bad for him over the loss of Tracey. Since I've been watching episodes from 80/81, I've found the two to be a real cute couple. I didn't pity Jason, however. But Warren Burton seems to play the whiny, spineless, tragic villain well. At least he did on GL and AW.

I loved how the news of Tracey's death spread around Bay City and we saw how everyone reacted over it. From Liz feeling guilt to Ada being reminded of her recent lost (Charlie).

Just a good episode overall.

In that episode of Facts of Life is a young Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) from Days of our Lives. Even though this is the AW forum, here is a funny episode of Sanford and Son where Fred is worried that his TV will be repossessed before he finds out the paternity of Mike Horton on Days of our Lives. Redd Foxx gives a perfect summary of the Bill/Laura/Mickey storyline without missing a beat. You have to love Fred's line at the end of the show about being "an old, crippled zucchini parked in his wheelchair watching Days of our Lives" as he tries to con the repo man (Dick Van Patten, Eight is Enough) out of money. LOL. It was great that NBC would promote their daytime soaps on their sitcoms.

    • -- "The role of Ted Richardson is now being played by...." I love that throwback to soaps from yesteryear. I know we don't want BTG to be our grandmother's soap, but sometimes Grandma's soaps had it right. -- I was FULLY prepared to dislike Keith D. Robinson as Ted, and I even went through things in my mind that I could say because I was fine with Maurice Johnson and felt bad for him.     However, Robinson was awfully good, especially for Day 1. He's a different Ted, but he's a good actor -- natural and real. People saying Gates "should have gone older" are head-scratchers since Robinson is older than Johnson. -- I expected Bill to be tougher than he was with Dana, THE worst mother of the year on soaps. -- Kat went toe-to-toe in those scenes with Dana. We're all in love with Ambyr/Eva, but Colby/Kat is also killing it. -- Derek and Ashley? I'm turning on Ashley, who can't even pretend to like Derek, let alone love him. Her annoyance with him is overboard, and I'm also annoyed with the show portraying Derek as a Neanderthal -- to the point of putting "Neanderthal" in his dialogue. Every single thing he does annoys Ashley, which makes me wonder what she ever saw in him. I want him away from her. -- Seeing Derek and Ashley in that bed was hilarious. It looks like a single, not something for two grown adults. -- Ashley and Andre are still a no for me -- a big no. I see no reason why he'd be infatuated with her. None. At least Andre got a smile from her, which she didn't have for Derek, even when he wanted them to get a bigger place. Derek, please dodge the bullet.
    •   I LOVED Hennig’s Stephanie. AK is Stephanie in name only. Stephanie was never boring to me.
    • July 2012, Abe organized a gala that was an autism fundraiser in Lexie's honor.  This was the huge event everyone was attending (except Gabi and Melanie in the tunnels).. -- when the gas explosion occurred and the building collapsed.  The "Daysaster" cliffhanger before the Olympics break.
    • I think maybe Andre is subconsciously looking for a caretaker/nurturer in his life to replace his parents. That would explain his attraction to both Ashley (nurse) and Dani (older woman/his aunt's sister). I don't see any chemistry between Ashley and Andre though. In fact Andre and Derek had more chemistry in the pasta night episode than either of them have ever had with Ashley.
    • My only recollection of Ms Felder in Tom Lissanti's book is that she was not well liked backstage, and nobody was aware of rumors that she was fired because of her looks, including the network executive interviewed for the book.
    • a) you would not be sorry, but  b) full episodes from the first half of '89 are hard to find.
    • Ya see..., that's why I can't watch this show on my own!

I'm ripping it for being dumb, meanwhile half the episode goes over my head.  Hello pot, I'm kettle.
    • When put very plainly it wouldn't make sense, but you could say that Ashley would prefer someone that can pay his own way without sharing expenses and has more than a working class experience. Andre might want someone more stable and level headed. Of course the issue is that the characters don't match despite the plausibility of a connection making s
    • I am fine with no one mentioning Bob-ette again.  It's frustrating not ever knowing what was up with him truly or why we wasted so much time on that to never get a conclusion.  I am willing to forget it though. Abe being on the board makes more sense to me because of Lexie and Theo.  I think there was a wing dedicated to Autism research or treatment years ago possibly named after Theo and Lexie was the chief of staff at some points and worked there for years.  I could see Abe having interest in the hospital still.
    • TR eventually came to be a nickname for Theresa Regina, the name her kidnappers gave her. Estelle never referred to her as Rebecca, though, always Theresa. I guess that was what TR wanted.    TR went to Switzerland. Jane returned for the last week.  After Ryder died, TR never had a love interest. I assume they gave up. I wouldn’t have dropped John Loprieno as Danny but he got squeezed out by Quinn, really. A TR/Evie/Jerry triangle might’ve worked.    David Forsyth and Jackie Schultz had good chemistry. I liked Luann though. I think Sharon Gabet would’ve been a more interesting recast, and she might’ve kept Joe Lambie on as Lloyd.    But Suzi and Wendy were gone, and Liza was talking about leaving town to join Gary in Africa, so before the cancellation, I do believe Liza was getting phased out.  Sunny and Patti and Evie were set up as heroines, and it was a small show.
