January 1972 Daytime TV

Lisa Cameron (Susan Douglas Shearer), John Cunningham (Dan Shearer) and Christine Cameron (Barbara Shearer) departed in September. Rue McLanahan (Caroline Johnson) also left but joined Where The Heart Is immediately. In October, Alice Mary Riley (Susan Betsy Giles) left the cast.

Thanks, Mr. Brightside, I always thought Stephen Schnetzer was a great soap leading men -- adept at both drama and comedy, and exhibiting great chemistry with all the AW ladies mentioned in the article, plus Nancy Frangione. His stints as Marcello on OLTL and Steve Olson on DAYS were pretty unmemorable, but that was a fault of the writing, not the actor.

I like seeing that Stephen is working constantly. I think that he was talented actor who was underrated on the soaps because he did not have the traditional "handsome" look. I had no idea that he has a son who also acts. He is a proud father. Good for him.

His praise of JFP does make me roll my eyes, but whatever.

When I started watching the 1980 AW episodes I'd assumed it would be for Rachel and Mac, but that baby/murder trial story is so interminable, I mostly find myself watching for Blaine, Pat, and Cecile.

Kit is so dowdy and boring. I like Amy, she's a good bitch, but overall the Halloways, even Miranda (although Judith McConnell does her best).

I guess we're soon heading for Jerry's mother's murder. It's too bad, as I liked her.

Here's a recap I've written up for the May 4th, 1995 episode of AW which I believe was the dastardly Evan Frame's exit day:

Lorna tells Grant that their relationship is over. Grant admits that he has made some bad choices but he still loves her. Lorna says that with the way everything has happened, the relationship is not working for her. Grant reminds her that not working on his book would be a professional breach of contract. Lorna agrees to stick with the project as long as the work being done is productive.

Spencer regains consciousness and attempts to speak. When Morgan walks in the room, Grant's temper rises. Outside, Lorna reveals to Morgan that she has broke it off with Grant. John tries to reassure Spencer about his situation, and then tells Grant that Spencer's memory could be affected by the stroke he had. Morgan tells Lorna he is proud of what she did today... then they smooch.

John pushes Michael to come clean with him about why he's back in Bay City and why he wants to buy the farm. Michael admits that he's had a few surprises in his personal life but he is not at liberty to talk about it yet. He attempts to visit Donna and Vicky with no success. Back at the farm, Michael and Sharlene talk. He tells her that there are certain things in life that that cannot be avoided, but didn't elaborate on what this meant. Donna and Matt go riding out at the Hudson farm. When finished, Donna is left alone in the stable putting away equipment. As Donna turns around, she is shocked to see Michael standing behind her.

Amanda visits Evan to clarify what she meant when she told him she wouldn't move to New York. She tells him that she said no to New York..not to him. They briefly discuss their feelings, and Evan recognizes that they may only be destined to be friends, not lovers. Evan asks Amanda to lunch at the Harbour Club and they agree to meet there in a half hour. Justine is planning to visit Evan disguised as Rachael. Just as Evan is about to leave for his lunch at the Harbour Club, Justine arrives. She tells him to stay away from Amanda, and that if push comes to shove, she will push back. Justine admits that these tactics will be used not only on him, but also on Amanda! Evan looks terrified.

Paulina shows Matt and Donna the report about Jake's death. She tells Matt how much he has hurt her and to save his overbearing tendencies for Donna.
Paulina then storms out of the suite and heads for the Harbour Club. Paulina show the report to Amanda. She advises Paulina to believe that Jake loved her no matter what other people think or say. Paulina admits to hoping that Jake would come back if only she found the right answers to his death. Amanda is concerned that Evan has not shown up for lunch. The camera pans back to Evan's apartment and show's his phone receiver dangling from the table.

Justine then goes to the hospital to check in on Spencer. She sneaks into his room and talks to him. Spencer becomes fearful when Justine tells him that he really ought to be dead. He tries to reach for the nurse call button but Justine yanks it out of his reach. She threatens to pull the plug on him. Justine pulls the oxygen tubes from Spencer's face and grabs a nearby pillow...to smother him with!

I didn't realize that was Evan's exit. I thought he just left town for a job.

I wonder if they originally planned to kill Spencer then changed their mind. They should have just killed him.

It's pretty strange and something I didn't remember at all. In the following episode Amanda and Paulina get get a strange, vague letter from Evan saying he's off to New York because it would be too dangerous to stay with her family. Amanda wonders if Rachel had anything to do with it and later visits Evan's trashed apartment looking liked someone had packed in a hurry.

I also forget how bad Wyndham's British accent was...it certainly did a number on her over accent in the last few years on AW.

I can't get past the fact that Philece Sampler was once on this show! She is definitely one of the worst and most annoying actresses I have ever seen. She ruined Donna for good. She was really awful on DAYS too. She honestly couldn't be more unlikable if she tried.

Didn't like Josie as a character but I liked Alexandra Wilson. I never got why so many people disliked her as an actress. Though Josie should have been more of a bitch and a gold digger. The recasts reinforced how boring the character was. I lost all interest once Wilson left the role.

Gary always seemed mad when he was supposed to be happy or crying. I think it was Tim Gibbs's fault. I couldn't stand the story with Josie and Gary.

Wow. So Alli was portrayed by Alicia Leigh Willis AND Lindsay Lohan. Lohan may have been a better actress than PS or ALW but she was every bit as unlikable as those two. Granted that's been the least of Lohan's problems for about 10 years but regardless.
