I posted this in the OLTL discussion, but I thought it fit here as well. It's from an 1982 ebony article, "Blacks on Soaps." I had to take screenshots of the article and then convert them to jpeg files so hope they come out correctly.

Another World was a mess for most of Corinne Jacker’s head writing stint but she did create an interesting black family with the Morgans (Bob, Henrietta, RJ & Mary Sue), gave them front burner stories, elevated Quinn to a lead character and gave her a brother (Ed) and an adopted daughter (Thomasina).

There was so much potential with what she set up (and Rauch somehow allowed compared to his later soap choices). Quinn and Henrietta are both compelling characters played by very charismatic actresses. Michele Shay is one of the most unique actresses I've seen on a soap.

(has she ever been asked about her time on AW?)

I did laugh at Robert Christian being called an AW mainstay. I guess at that point being on the show for a year did make you a mainstay.

I have a question. Does anyone remember who Nancy MCGowan was named so for? I remember that Connie asked for her to be named Nancy & it was in honor of a real person, an actress. I'm wondering if it was Nancy Pinkerton but I just can't recall.

It was Nancy Wickwire, who had played Liz Matthews for a year or two around 1970. I believe the actress had recently died when Nancy McGowan was born.  At least one of the old soap opera history books reported that Ford and Wickwire had been romantically connected. Wickwire went to California and one of her next soap roles was Phyllis Anderson on DOOL.  I've read she became ill while playing Phyllis.   

In the script, Nancy McGowan was named after Gil's mother, if my memory is correct.

Perfection! Thank you. Nancy Wickwire was in my head as my second choice for this & yes, it was clear to me at least that Connie was having her named after an ex-lover.  You know in the book Sometimes You Have to Lie: The Life and Times of Louise Fitzhugh, Renegade Author of Harriet the Spy she basically outs Connie. I mean it's done lovingly. There is certainly no malice. They were close in NYC circles. And, yes, I'm a huge fan of Harriet the Spy & also tomato sandwiches.

I loved Michele Shay (Henrietta).  She was a talented actress and Henrietta was a unique character.

For what it's worth, a timeline as I understand it.

Ford was married to Shelley Hull from 1946 to 1955. When she was playing Eve Morris on The Edge of Night (1964-65?) she moved in with Louise Fitzhugh and they were together until after Ford started on Another World in 1967 but broke up around 1968.

Wickwire was married to Basil Langton from 1959 to 1969. She was on Another World from August 1969 until July 1971.

In this article which according to the original post was from 1969, the driver picks up Ford and Wickwire together "in front of Augie's Coffee Shop at E 41st St and Matison Av". The writer specifies that the actresses met for the pickup but there is no way of knowing whether that is true or simply discreet.
