March 31, 200916 yr Author Member Those from the old one you posted are supposed to be a small corridor, not the main center like those of the new one. yeah, but the main area was decked out the same as the corridor. i cant tell if the hospital rooms are the same or not yet. ill have to pay attention during tonys hospital scenes.
March 31, 200916 yr Member From those pics it reminds me of AMC's hospital set re-design. Maybe there was some sort of bulk soap set redwood auction.
March 31, 200916 yr Member Oh wow, it looks MUCH better (I haven't watched DAYS in all of 2009). A little less cheap. I guess firing as many people as they did allowed for a little more leeway in the set budget?
March 31, 200916 yr Member The hospital room is also different...From what I remember from yesterday's scenes the room is a bit darker paint wise.
March 31, 200916 yr Member The redwood makes the hospital set pop more, but it looks incredibly cheap to me. Can someone PLEASE FIX the lighting at DAYS? I HATE how PINK everyone looks on the show.
March 31, 200916 yr Member I believe the redwood walls and elevators were originally part of that fancy Titan restaurant the show no longer uses. DAYS also used them last year as the hotel reception/elevators for the now famous Lucas/Chloe and EJ/Nicol´s double elevator romp. I don´t know why they recreated the hospital (probably some studio space issues as usual), but I hink it looks good now. It was very glaring and patched together when they first introduced it around January, but now they polished it and found a way how to include the redwood parts naturally into the remnants of the old hospital set.
March 31, 200916 yr Member It wouldn't loook too bad to me if the lighting on this show didn't make everything look pink. I wish they would've brought Salem Place back before redecorating other sets. Salem Place would work well for them under their budget constraints. It's a nice place, other than the Brady Pub, for characters to come together. Edited March 31, 200916 yr by Y&RWorldTurner

Even later when they made it indoor, it still took a lot of studio place. Their goal is clearly to make as much sets as possible permanent so I doubt we will ever see it again. They use the pier/park (which seems to be the same set, only with a different background wall) as the main outdoor set and it´s really tiny, even smaller than the old pier set with the payphone used to be.

Salem Place would work well for them under their budget constraints. It's a nice place, other than the Brady Pub, for characters to come together. Salem Place would have been an excellent set to keep ahold of in its outdoor form...it was an excellent place for characters to interact and have storylines intersect, creating a feeling of community, and could have been used for multiple purposes (like how everything on GL that happened outwith that Beacon hotel room everyone lived in took place on Main Street) and as it was outside it wouldnt have taken up studio space. I really like the hospital set now, and how's it's not all green and cardboard like it used to be. When DAYS aired over here and Kirsten Storms was still Belle the hospital looked so tacky, now it looks nice...I just wish they'd sort out the lighting, it all looks so soft/porn-y...
March 31, 200916 yr Member DAYS has had problems with its lighting ever since Langan left. Wyman made DAYS look horribly orange and bright, as if the show took place on the sun or something. Ed Scott's lighting was way too dark. He didn't even light Y&R that way, ever. That type of lighting never really suited the sets and patters DAYS uses/used. Scott's lighting started out great, and got too dark in a harsh way by the end of his tenure. Now, with Tomlin, everything is bright and there's this big pink residue that seems to have taken over the show. The actors and the set bear some pink-ish complexion.
