It's so strange seeing her on the screen right now with all this dray-ma goin down!

And take this as you wish, but might I just add that Mr. Rauch always has something up his sleeve.

Does Lauren Lane (C.C., The Nanny) still act? I've always thought she'd make a good Jill - she has the same deep, authoritative voice and capacity for bitchiness.

She has appearently not acted since 2001, it says she is appearing on stage as an actress in Texas, she is younger than Jess Walton, but i agree, she would be good as a Jill temp.......

Here's my question.... if they are looking for a "big name" for the role, then wouldn't that negate their budgest savings? Big names don't come cheap! I don't where Nelson gets his info... what are we SURE that they haven't contacted Dickson? Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I also think them calling Dickson would give them MUCH more leverage in negotiations that just casting call for some stranger.

I'm a huge Dickson fan. The idea of Tricia and Brenda sharing scenes is hilarious!!!

But to quote someone from Daytime Confidential:

Well, Paul Rauch is is certainly not above going the recast route, given his past history with the other soaps he's worked on. Unfortunately, in this situation, they will have to cast a new face as Jill - I don't believe for a second that Brenda Dickson is *sane* enough to come back (the Bell family probably has a restraining order on her, anyway...).

LOL!

If they called Dickson, her blog would be off the chain with posts in the 3rd person talking about how she is finally relaunching her career and all of her red carpet madness in her Versace gowns with vintage bags paid off!

I don't know what happened to that woman! She is loonier than a loon, but is an utter delight to watch. I must admit I absolutely adore her.

I just don't understand why the entire Bell family would resent her. Yes, she is a Diva. We know this. But come on now, Breaden is no better and they keep him around. Wasn't he drunk at the Emmy's one year as he was announcing the nominations for outstanding drama series?

Brenda blasted them in the press (said she had to do physically strenuous scenes when she was recovering from serious illness, among other complaints), and didn't she sue them? Or did they sue her??

I think she did say she had a hatchet-burying lunch with Bill Bell sometime during the 90s.

The truth always lies somewhere in between.

I do not think for a second that Bill Bell or any Bell is- or was- a saint.

Brenda Dickson- same thing. But god i love her.

I *pray* this contract dispute is what is actually going down. Because the alternative doesn't bear thinking about. Not for somebody as classy and kind as Jess Walton.

Well, this "big name" is currently unemployed, she'd take what she can get.

What Nelson reported is truly devastating. If they can't work out this contract dispute they'll just keep the recast and that is unforgivable, IMO. Jess Walton is Y&R royalty, the most underrated and underappreciated vet the past 10 years. She's been giving flawless performances, enhancing her costars, yet never gets an Emmy pre-nom. To me, you can't recast Victor or Jack or Nikki and certainly not Jill. Jess has too much history in the role at this point.

CBS has been recast happy of late and even Y&R seems to be picking up that trend. I really don't want Jess to be impacted by this. Please lets hope the network realizes how important she is to the canvas and this can be worked out. Only thing, since they want to sign the temp to a CONTRACT, that makes me worry.

But almost all those mentioned except Victor are recasts themselves. Melody replaced someone who hadn't been there long so had an easy time. Peter Bergman replaced Terry Lester who even the press said coudn't be replaced as Jack. And when Brenda Dickson left and was recast no one thought she could be recast either. But Peter Bergman and Jess Walton both made the roles their own and were finally accepted.

Given fans even a few years back were more accepting and forgiving than they are today. So it will definitely be more difficult in this day and age to replace her.

I think the big problem with recasting Jill is Jess Walton has, for a long time, brought more depth to Jill than the show has given her. Without Jess, Jill is just a shrew who rails at Kay and Billy and smothers Cane.

I think fans will accept a recast if they don't think Jess is being treated unfairly. If they think she's being forced out or that Y&R is dumping too many vets while clogging the show up with lesser talents, then the recast may suffer. Even then, I don't know if recasts are as much of a roadblock now as they were 10 years ago, because there are fewer fans to alienate. ATWT managed to recast Lily without as much fan backlash as expected (unless their ratings losses are down to Martha's departure; I can't tell, since most of ATWT is a disaster area).

Y&R's track record on recasts in recent years hasn't quite been up to par. If I were them, I'd do the opposite of any decision I made in recasting Victoria.
