All 8 soaps are getting real hot right now and its going to get even hotter once March sweeps begin on Thursday March 5, 2009.

Like I said many times before in the past few weeks, the amazing story for the soaps in 2009 could be the turn around of GL like DAYS was in 2008. OLTL has turned it around in 2008 also but it didn't consistently build off the 2.3s and 2.4s it got during the year which is the main problem for that show. I haven't heard this much positive enjoyment from the GL fans since like 2005. Besides the format their doing the right things over there and might've just saved themselves another five years on the air. The momentum of the growing backbone favorites of the show Olivia and Natalia along with the additions of Edmund and Phillip might possibly finally get this show out of eighth place for the first time since Passions left the air in September '07.

All in all I expect GL to leave the sub 1.6 levels for a while until things cool off again. My guess is either a 1.7 or 1.8 for the week and reaching 1.9 for one of the days in the next two weeks. Keep a close eye on the period between Friday and Tuesday of this week when the ratings for next week come out as they had a major situation occurring.

Since 2007 the ABC Soaps have not had happy times like CBS and NBC have been having recently. Its time for the ABC Soaps to start either making some major changes or ratings need to start going up. All three of the soaps are pulling stunts during the last week and so far the soap fans are smart b/c they have not returned at all especially GH which hasn't gotten over 2.4 at all yet. AMC had a big week with the buzz covering Bianca and Reese's wedding so they should see an uptick. The ABC Soap that does not deserve the ratings its getting is OLTL. OLTL should be the highest rated soap on that block but the other shows are not helping it out.

NBC has been getting red hot with DAYS and that show has built a new audience over the last 4 months getting a huge turn around so hopefully they stay steady as NBC made the right move by not pulling the switch on that long running soap.

Y&R is just a blast right now and its amazing how this show has turned around things and helping the show behind them get upticks. Y&R should be able to see a few 4.0+ days maybe like 2-3 days overall.

B&B has just been way too good as I would've never thought Rick of all people would keep me glued to this show like this. Very emotional times on B&B as of late as they prove that their the classic writing soap that exceeds over all. ATWT has become more watchable and its numbers have improved as of late so here's hoping no more sub 2.0s for a while.

What is a soap fan to do?? I have been a ATWT fan for most of my life and I find myself almost hoping that ATWT tanks in the ratings in order to bring around a change in the writing (which can be so incredibly unrealistic and predictable at the same time) and to change their trend in story telling (where no storyline takes more than 3 episodes from beginning to end). Does this make me a bad fan???

ATWT has always been blessed by incredible actors, but it used to be a soap that would draw out storylines over months and you knew the characters inside and out. Now when I tune in I never know if Paul is going to be 'crazy Paul' or 'rational Paul' or 'enraged Paul' or 'seeing visions Paul' or 'seeing his dead father Paul'. Alison can't be in a relationship because.......could someone explain this to me???The Luke and Noah story is so poorly written I don't even pay attention to it any more. They have broken up and gotten back together like 15 times in the past year - a little overkill. They have a habit of forgetting people have life threatening illnesses too - Lucinda and Barbara?? The forth different Craig in how many 3-4 years - nice casting going on. How about the habit of bringing back fan favorites (i.e. Craig (Scott B.), Rosanna, James) only to axe them for no apparent reason a couple months later. Scott B. mentioned in an interview he did a few months after they let him go that he didn't even understand the storyline his character was given (well he wasn't alone) and he was shocked at the amount of dead baby storylines the show has had recently. The three recasts in the period of 3 days was also a casting achievement fans love to endure. It would be nice to move people out of the hotel (why do half the people on the show live in a hotel) - I think you have gotten your mileage out of that set.

In spite of this I still watch :-)

Sorry guys, just had to get this off of my chest. Here's for hoping for better days ahead!

BTW - Well done DAYS, Y&R and GL - got some great stuff going on in all of those soaps.

I try to watch at least a little of all the soaps. Of all the soaps on the air right now, only GL is keeping my attention. The ABC soaps are as boring as watching paint dry. Days is a little better, even though I've seen enough baby swapping/kidnapping stories for a life time.

    • Unpopular opinion:  The focus on the soap opera tropes over the mysteries and crimes was partly what did the show in.  Also, featuring characters not involved in the legal, police, and criminal elements also hurt the show and took away what made it unique. Featuring characters like Jody, Raven, Sky, etc hurt the show long term.  The show ABCified starting in 1976/1977 and then went through a youthification period starting in 1981.
    • I feel like the lawsuit storyline was resolved quickly because the show didn’t want to spring for more sets.
    • It's been a while, but we have seen the foyer to Bill and Hayley's house as well as the exterior entrance to their house. The foyer was first seen in the premiere episode when Hayley met Vanessa at the house.
    • There's still a year or two before Larkin arrives. Joel is there already. EON does noticeably youthify, although I think they carry it off. Admittedly I haven't seen most of the Jody stories, which from what people here have said aren't great.
    • I don't mind the actor who plays Brian. He's fine. The problem for me is that Paige seems so wishy wishy. She doesn't seem to have much of a personality at this point so I don't see why Brian would be so besotted with her. She just lurches from one trauma to the next. Granted, it's only been a month, but she's not as vibrant as April or even Deborah who has had minimal screen time by this point.  I do worry about the influence of GH on the show since I'm in fall of 1979 and characters have conversations and there's not the drive to "youthify" the show. However, I think Marceau (sp?) is gone. He was given a rather tame sendoff. How long was the actor on the show? I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I worry the show is setting up a murder mystery around one of my favorite characters and I will be mightily annoyed. I also noticed in recent Search for Tomorrow episodes uploaded to YT that the actors playing Logan and Eliot showed up. I don't watch the show but they were in the screencaps. When does Larkin Malloy show up or has he already left? Joel Crothers hasn't shown up either unless I've blinked and missed him.
    • Dr Linden. She treated Vanessa's drug addiction (although Vanessa seemed to forget that by Henry's suicide attempt) , and she's mentioned during Reva's PPD. Although I can't recall if she's actually shown right off the top of my head. She probably was temporarily shelved when Sonni was a therapist (between her crazy times) And I think Billy sees her after he falls off the wagon after Reva's death.
    • Kinda agree. I have some issues with the sets. Nicole's living room is bland-looks like a display home. Bill and Hayley's is too small and basically hideous. And neither of them have a front door/entrance or staircase. People just appear from the corridor. Those green accents  at Uptown are way too much. Also,Naomi and Vanessa not having an office or a home .
    • Thanks @Paul Raven  That Grainger story always reads like hog-wild melodrama, not very similar to the more subtle stories for Rita in her last few years. I wonder how Lenore played the material.
