Members Gray Bunny
I'm not surprised nor am I disappointed. Their return was ho-hum, as were their subsequent storylines. They're just not interesting, sorry to say. I like Kayla by herself, but since she's part of a big supercouple that has to ultimately stay together, it's toxic. Bo & Hope will be the lone supercouple to close out the show when it ends.

Members JONNYSBRO
The thing is NBC pays Alison Sweeney the most now and they ADORE HER. She is host of one of there highest rated shows. In fact this Biggest Loser has been the highest rated in like four years. NBC LOVES SWEENEY BIGTIME.

Members llaroo
I am soo upset about it! I was hoping that they would be given a storyline worth of their talent. But alas that is not to be. So much for fantasyland
Members granolagirl
I'm sad and disappointed, but definitely not shocked about this. I'll always be glad they came back, even though it sucked me back into watching soaps again for a few years. And I'm grateful that Steve and Kayla's second trip to Salem managed to intersect with Hogan Sheffer and Ed Scott being there. I'm a huge SN/MBE fan, but the importance of the writing to Steve and Kayla magic the first time around can't be underestimated. (I actually think that's true for most of the legendary couples of the eighties; everyone raves about their amazing chemistry, but takes the actual stories for granted.) How you could bring them back and hope to recapture the same success -- without even trying to understand what made them work in the first place -- is beyond me. The talent was there in front of the cameras this time, but often questionable behind them. Much of what was good for them this run came out of HS and ES's understanding of the importance of character and detail, though their material had issues, too. It may be time for Days to move in a different direction, one where the most useful characters on canvas are the ones who can be remolded every other week, and slotted into new stories that are bound to fizzle out in the end. And that's cool. I'm more than ready to give it up, so it's been good to get a few strong signals in the last couple weeks about where they're taking it. BTW, Sheffer's ratings definitely left something to be desired, but I think it should be remembered that they were starting to climb when he was let go, and Dena's summer doldrums sent the show to a new all time low. Members DavidEvanSmith
So the next time Stephanie gets shot and is clinging to life, is Maggie going to throw a line into a scene about "Oh darn, too bad Steve and Kayla are on that cruise around the world and can't be reached!" THAT'S why no exit story doesn't work. What happens to Stephanie's new little brother? He grows up off-screen for three years and shows up (if DAYS isn't canceled) as a 18 year old stud that beds Melanie? This shooting should have been Kayla's death, and Hope and Bo could be driven apart by THAT because they are both somewhat responsible. Steve would leave Salem with his son because he can't cope with being without his "Sweetness". Stephanie would need to pick up the pieces. To fire them and not do an exit story is more spineless. Do it up big, end it with a bang, if you're going to be bold enough to fire them.
Members DAYSjunkie1987
I knew this was coming. Didn't want to believe it, but I just knew. And no exit?! Makes it sting all the more. This is the first time since JER that I'm seriously thinking about quitting.
Members Ives
Very, very disappointed. The natural chemistry between SN and MBE always made their scenes great to watch, even if the writing never rose to the level of their talent and character history. Too bad because there was A LOT of organic stories that could have been done given that they have really only had 7 years of onscreen stories and so much missing off screen history. I returned to watching Days with their return. Unfortunately, none of the other characters have captured my interest enough that I will continue watching when they leave. There were possibilities. I loved Blake Berris as Nick (and the initial part of his Chelsea relationship) but they trashed his character and got rid of him - too bad because he was by far the most talented of the younger actors. I was intrigued by EJ but the yo-yo writing for his character over the last few years has made his character a hot mess. I loved the family Dimera scenes but with Tony gone, EJ neutered and Stefano weakened, it is not enough for me. I also really liked Philip Kiriakis and JKJ. I can NOT stand the way they have put with the younger set - Melanie greats on my nerves and his relationship with Stephanie just reminds me of all of the good "could have beens" considering Steve and Kayla's relationship with Victor. Overall, I find the writing for the characters to be very shallow. Even when a character has some intriguing, established history, it seems to be ignored or glossed over. And very very few of the characters are rootable in the storylines they are currently in. Oh, and can you believe that we still really don't know the whole story behind Steve's missing years???? Almost 3 years back on the show and it has never really been addressed.
Members jcar03
A WTF moment: And They're Out... Try and catch DAYS today for the final airdate of Stephen Nichols (Steve) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla). As Executive Producer Ken Corday told Digest exclusively, "They're not leaving Salem. They're not dying. They're just not going to be on the air, they're not going to be on camera. You might see one or both of them pop up on other episodes, but it's not going to be a significant exit." You can say that again. http://www.soapoperadigest.com/news/breaking/ He just talkes out of his rear end.

Members bellcurve
The thing that disappoints me about this statement is that they should have at least kept Marlena around if she was "worth it." Marlena could have been Sami's confidant or the very least gave her guidance and wisdom. That's if she's "worth it." And I'm sorry, but to me, Maggie is no matriarch.
