Members Y&RWorldTurner
http://soapoperadigest.com/news/breaking/ Huge DAYS News! Soap Opera Digest has learned exclusively that the super popular Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) and Stephen Nichols (Steve), who returned to the show in 2006, have been let go. "It's like they're getting rid of everyone over 40," sighs a setside source. Read more about it in an upcoming issue of Digest.
Members dm.
Surprise, surprise. Not. Who the heck even watches that show anymore?
Members Rakesh
Corday should just close this show and do a spin off with the teens. It looks like this will be an all teen soap.
Members Dr Neil Curtis
My favorite show is going to the bags!!!! They never wrote for them anyway, their return storyline was so rushed that it was put together right. (Kayla should have had a husband, etc.) So now its time for another soap to pick up this great talent. I read an AMC fan fic once with Mary Beth in the role of Liza Colby, I like that idea. AMC should pick her up and Stephen should head over to GL or ATWT.
Members DaytimeFan
About damn time! These two have been a flop from day 1 and they both were paid outrageous salaries...I was shocked that Deidre Hall was fired before either of them were. The show is really reinventing itself. Teens and their parents and few 20somethings with Maggie Horton thrown in as the wise older woman and *no* extraneous characters.
Members DrewH
I'm not blaming Higley or Corday anymore. These are clearly Tomlin decisions. He's making wise financial decisions, however, he's stripping the show of everything that makes it resemble itself.
Members JONNYSBRO
Corday strikes again but IMO is this really NOT surprising. They were next on the chopping block and cannot afford their salaries. So their contracts are ending and they are ditching the characters. There returns were total bombs and did nothing to generate any big ratings. I actually would love to see Stephen Nichols go back to GH and MBE back to ATWT. There is no need for these characters as much as I like the actors. This IMO is ABSOLUTELY NO SURPRISE WHATSOEVER. I knew they would be let go from the show. Actually while I like the actors, the characters are not needed at all. They never worked this time around.
Members Dr Neil Curtis
Higley, Corday, and Tomlin all need to get to packing, cause Betty Corday, Ted Corday, Bill Bell, and Irna Phillips have finally escaped their island and heading home to Burbank, Cali. How wish this was true. we need some people at Days who believe in history and great love stories. I understand teens and twenty-somethings like soaps and want to see people their age, but I am 22 and I want to see Steve and Kayla, Hope and Bo, Marlena and John, Roman, Maggie, Mickey, Alice, Kate. that is what I grew up on. I liked when those people were on screen they are who keep the ratings up. you have one or two good teen stars on the show (IHO, Morgan Hollingsworth and Ford Decker, were by far the best) Cause this happen I am still not leaving Days, I am praying for a turn around like OLTL has. Members CassieFan
Awful. Yeah, their return was boring. But, this show doesn't have core couples anymore, except Bo & Hope. Jennifer & Jack = GONE! Belle & Shawn = GONE! Marlena & John = GONE! Kayla & Patch = GONE! Too sad. They should cancel DAYS.
Members DRW50
If they need to free up money, why not fire Josh Taylor and Lauren Koslow? Both characters outlived their usefulness some time ago, especially FauxRoman. After what GH did to Stephen Nichols I was hoping he'd have a better time at DAYS. And Mary Beth Evans is ageless and has limitless talent. Stupid decision.
Members Dr Neil Curtis
Carl I totally agree with you about Roman, he should be transfer to another police station or something. Kate could set sail with Daniel, Chloe, Mia, Nicole, and Melanie in tow and open up her company somewhere else with them helping her.
Guest dc cubs
I can't say I'm surprised. There is no loyalty any more and both characters have been on the back burner for quite awhile.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
I wish I could say this is a surprise, but it's not. But in the end, it won't make much of a difference. Steve and Kayla have hardly ever been interesting or written properly since their return. I really don't think these firings will have much impact on the overall show though, they're barely on now and many still haven't warmed up to them since their 2006 return.
