What's the point of having Jack Maclaine/Todd McKee around? It's not like he's doing anything that an extra couldn't do.

^^Well, thats probably why he is not on contract. He is a guest star.

But I mean why even bother to call him Jake Maclaine and go through the trouble of getting the original Jake to basically just walk by the camera four times a year. He's not really even playing the character, more just an extra with a name. We know who he is, but the average B&B viewer probably wouldn't, at least with his history being ignored. Maybe he's still friends with Brad.

I get what you're saying, but it is a nice nod to history. It shows that Brad hasn't COMPLETELY forgotten about the early years of the show.

He is. They play tennis together or something.

Well, personally, I'd rather have him remember the history of the major characters he has on, lol. The problem with him bringing back so many characters, especially the Logan family, is that he's basically re-created them.

And Jake wasn't around for this fashion show was he? (Unless I missed his 2 second on-screen time, lol)

Jake was there, but we didn't see him. When Donna and Owen first pitched the idea for unveiling the show-stopper to Eric, Owen said that "Jake's working on the special effects right now." So Jake made that whole surf-board entrance happen and was somewhere backstage at the controls. One possibility for his only being mentioned is that the fashion show was being taped close to year end. They probably had so many actors under guarantee (Winsor Harmon, Lesli Kay and even Lesley-Anne Down, who was let in to her competitor's fashion show for lord knows what reason) that they chose to use them rather than bring Todd McKee on for one more day just to push some buttons.

I guess Jake decided to become a techie in his time away from L.A., since that seems to be what he's doing every time they brought him on since the fashion show that took place the day Stephanie was shot. It kind of makes sense that he wouldn't be working long-term as a tennis pro at country clubs. At least there was a casual mention of his past history when they first brought him back (Felicia mentioned she once dated him), although none of his history with Thorne or Donna was mentioned.
