I don't watch Days, but my impression, from what I read, is that is is significantly mismanaged show. Dee and Drake are gone, but a ballooned John Callahan is on contract? Crazy.

What does John Callahan look like these days? I remember watching that show on My Network TV that he was on and I thought to myself, "Whoa, looks like Eva La Rue got the last laugh."

^^He has put on some weight since his AMC days.

I don't think he was put on contract to replace J&M or to become a long term character. I think Days does not want him to leave in the middle of the Nicole storyline that's all. They have done this before, believe me he will be gone as soon as this story ends.

I agree. He'll probably be gone as soon as the story ends. My guess is that he has minimal guarantees in his contract. They're probably not paying any more now than they would've if he was recurring. As someone mentioned, they want to guarantee that he'll be available for the duration of the story. Was never a big fan of his acting, though I must say that Julia Barr brought out the best in him. He is the very definition of a "ham actor."

Yeah, that's what I think too. It's just a short-term contract so he doesn't leave during this storyline.

Eva La Rue most certainly got the last laugh (looks wise and financially), John Callahan has ballooned, he looks like hell in comparison to his days at AMC.

that's an understatement. He has put on a fair amount--looks TOTALLY different.
