It's all about "norms," and "return to normalcy," and "tradition." And the framing is always against Democrats. Harry Reid only reluctantly killed the judicial filibuster after McConnell spent years tying up confirmations. Yet when the GOP rushed Amy Covid Barrett's confirmation through, many, including so-called "moderates" or "liberals," chided Democrats and blamed Reid. That is the type of thing stopping them. And it is why I won't be surprised if they end up caving in.

A Freudian slip there perhaps? ^_^

It's not very nice though (but maybe not altogether unfair) to associate her with a deadly disease.  :P

She took her kids (the same ones that she used as a weapon to try to shame those who didn't want to vote for her) with her to participate in a superspreader event at the White House that sickened many people and nearly killed some. She will always be Amy Covid Barrett or Typhoid Amy to me.

A power sharing agreement is under discussion between Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell, but the two have hit a snag over McConnell's demands ....

The VP can break a tie but because the number of Ds & Rs in the Senate are evenly split, there has to be an agreement on who gets to chair the various committees.

With the agreement not yet reached, the cabinet confirmation hearings in the Senate committees today -- are being chaired by Republicans.

That's because there's some sort of procedure/protocol they have to stick to -- that says that they must keep old committee chairs from the congress that just ended - until new agreement is in place for who chairs in this new congress.

This is why, even though @Vee makes some good points about people not understanding what's going on, I feel like Democrats will likely end up feeling reluctant to be as aggressive as they probably need to be in order to get things done. Every day that nothing happens is another day lost, but in that world, this is just part of the norm.

It's important to note that Politico and many other Beltway outlets always make a point of talking to centrist or Blue Dog Dems and prioritizing their voices in a relative minority to suggest they are the prevailing winds in the party and should be listened to first, to give the Republicans primacy at all times. It's certainly possible, but I don't buy it this time. Often Politico stories about Dems go searching for the Blue Dog needle in the haystack and then blow it up in headlines or language to make the statement seem bigger than it is, but when you look at the details they don't hold up.
