It was a status quo in the makeup of Congress, but the stakes were so huge that status quo in terms of the country was a victory. We aren't exactly in a great place now but we might have gone hurtling back to the darkness if our de facto leader became Grover Norquist. There was a major change in what was expected and what was typical, but that isn't something which is fun or cool to chatter about.

If the RP wants to triple down on their BS, go right ahead. In two years dogs won't even vote for that party.

Chris Matthews has been saying crap like that for years. He's been called out in private but not like he was on Twitter. He got blasted and I'm sure Phil Griffin told him this morning that he better say how sorry he is if he wants to keep his job. This is what he gets for always blowing off at the mouth.

And now...my flight to Denver is waiting.

I am sad about Pete Stark, just because it sucks to lose the house only Atheist. Im still shocked he ever got in to be honest.

Its very weird to see my little town mentioned, by name no less. We are normally just refer to as Riverside or The Inland Empire.

I am fairly happy with the results of the props. 31/32/33/34/37/38 are all being shut down. The others are passing. Basically how i voted down the line, except i did vote no on 30. 40 was the most confusing on the ballot, IMHO. Im still confused on what a yes or no vote met. It was worded very much like Prop 8 in 2008.

Krysten Sinema a bi-sexual atheist was elected from Arizona. Plus, I believe Mark Udall from Colorado describes himself as a nontheist.

having Obama for the next 4 years is going to very important for the Supreme court. Ruth Bader Ginsberg will likely retire, and we can HOPE that Double chinned !@#$%^&*] Scalia will leave the court in the next 4 years, and Obama can get someone with reasonable opinions in there.

There is no way to spin the status quo as a success story. Every person, republican and democrat can see what an ineffectual joke congress is. I have to assume the republicans will decide the problem is they weren't conservative enough and will make sure Obama passes as little as possible, so they can start their run for 2016. Mitch McConnell openly admitted this was his senate strategy all along, why would he start now trying to legislate? His angry statement last night I think points the way to how things go in the Senate, and the tea party controls the House.

It's a success in what was prevented, mostly. With gerrymandering, I don't think there was any way to take the House back. If Democrats fought harder they could abolish the filibuster, but I doubt they will.

Chuck Todd is a idiot. After months of saying how close the race was, his stupid white board, how much Romney gained, tonight on Hardball, he talked about how smart Obamas team was in how they organized and went after the demographics in the swing states they needed to win those states i particular. He said they were right about their poll information. So basically he invalidated the last few months of stats he presented.

I had the same thought watching him embarrass himself on Hardball. What is even more interesting is that I am pretty sure that he got the information about the Obama number crunchers from a Time article that I read first thing this morning. Listening to him regurgitate the article convinced me that he had absolutely no access to the Obama campaign. This is probably one of the reasons that he was merely offering up the Republican talking points throughout the campaign.

Here is the link to the article: http://swampland.time.com/2012/11/07/inside-the-secret-world-of-quants-and-data-crunchers-who-helped-obama-win/

A woman on Mitt Romney's FB said Satan led Americans to vote for Obama. mellow.png

For the Radical Right, Obama Victory Brings Fury and Fear

In a long thread at the anti-government site Free Republic on the passage of same-sex marriage referenda, commenters were apoplectic -- and frightened. "Get ready for God's wrath," wrote one. "The people are choosing Satan's finest." "Fudgies win again," wrote another. "Incidents of HIV [to] rise again." And a third: "America is going to pay for its unbelief and its love of abortion and homosexuals. ... And IT DESERVES IT."

The article was nice not to cite Freerepublic as a mirror on modern republican thought I guess. Far from being the fringe, it is the new republican mainstream.

Here’s Video Evidence of Why Everyone Thought Diane Sawyer Was Shitfaced On Air Last Night

http://gawker.com/59...dium=socialflow

http://www.ksdk.com/...-election-night

Reminds me of an episode of "The Newsroom" where on the night of news breaking about Bin Laden's death, Will, who was high, insisted on going on the air. Maybe that's what probably happened here. There was no way Diane wasn't going to be on, on such a historic night.

Today America is closer to the vision I've always had for it. More gays can marry and more people can get high while they do it! Oh yeah... the black guy is still president.

*dances like a drunk minister at a black wedding reception*

Perfect post!

Also big news for Puerto Rico last night, they voted to become the 51st state. Congress however still needs to approve, but a big first step for Puerto Rico.

This is interesting!

Some of the scrambling and outright anger and despair across the Beltway and at conservative thought pieces seems to center on the distaste that minority groups banded together and were not the minority. You hear this over and over - Obama won in spite of not having a majority of white voters. That means he didn't legitimately win. Or that he is simply not popular, he just managed to pull a fast one. The implication is - did they forget their place?

It's very clear that many still see minority groups as tools, and as part of a divide and conquer strategy. I imagine strong efforts will be made to go back to divide and conquer, probably making a feint at immigration reform and hiding behind scandal-plagued but media beloved Marco Rubio. Whether it will work, I don't know, but at least we're getting some honesty. Case in point:

Yup, i think republicans will push for Mark Rubio and assume he will win just because he isnt white. Then again, they are such a hateful group who knows.

I was also surprised to hear that Democrats got a supermajority in California. I'm not sure if this will go anywhere, since there will probably be a lot of infighting, but the 2/3 rule has kept them locked in for a long long time.

I am very interested in what, if anything, this will mean.

Except this election was nothing close to status quo. I don't even think this election was about Obama vs Romney it was a statement made by the real makeup of voters in this country.

I agree. The news shows were interesting today to watch because most of them talked about this. One guy posed the question was this loss more about Romney or Republicans, and it was amusing how his republican guets kinda danced around it. Not to say who was running didnt matter, it did. But the fact that Republicans picked a traditional republican type to run, and then aged a war on the middle class, poor, disadvataged, women, gays, minorites, and non christian voters and thought they could actually win is insane. granted, the popular vote was closer than it should have been. but kudos to the Obama camp for picking up all these people the republicans didnt want. The news shows also were talking about how the Latino vote is the most important one in 2016 and basically ignored every other group the cut out, including women. It was crazy.

Krysten Sinema a bi-sexual atheist was elected from Arizona. Plus, I believe Mark Udall from Colorado describes himself as a nontheist.

Thank you for this, I am going to google them both.

Election 2012: How pot, porn and punishment initiatives fared with voters

Youth vote decides presidential election – again. Is this the new normal?

The youth vote proved decisive in Tuesday's presidential election, just as it did in 2008. But this year, it was a far greater surprise.
